Free Dining Oct-Dec Is Here!!

I got up before 7 this morning also in hopes of using my DV for free dining. I've been following this thread (some skimming) off and on as I've had time. While, I was disappointed about the rumor not being true for today (we'll see about Aug 1), it is what it is.

The thing that upset me in this thread was people's assumptions about affordability. Now this is said without anger, snottiness, or any kind of tone. I'm just saying what I feel....I think it's kind of a rude or harsh statement to say that if you need a discount to fit your budget, you shouldn't go if you can't afford full price. I don't understand this line of thinking. People buy stuff with coupons and discounts all the time. I refuse to pay full price for anything. Why should I when I can get things for less? I have zero credit card debt because I am financially responsible. I save for vacation ahead of time. I have a large family though, and if we want to go every year, we need a discount. If we feel it is too expensive, we will not go. In fact, I do not pre-book before discounts are available.

I think Disney is expensive with the discounts. I would never pay full price. If you want to do that, that's fine, but what difference does it make to you if someone can only afford to go with a discount? I think it's irresponsible to put vacation on a credit card, but if people can pay it off, what business is it of mine? And everyone who is willing to pay full price for Disney and go no matter what, if most people do that, why would Disney offer a discount? They wouldn't have to. In the past at least, discounts are what were necessary to fill up rooms. We will see if they think it's necessary this year. My guess is yes, but time will tell.

Again, not trying to be rude or mean in any way, just sharing my two cents. Throw them back if you wish. ;)

I haven't been one to say 'if you can't afford full price don't go.' I think it's more along the lines of people booking, no discount coming out, and then being angry about not being able to go. It's the expectation that something is coming. I think that's what most of those comments are geared towards, IMO. I may not think people shouldn't go if they can't afford full price, but I do think it's unfair to be angry with a company for not offering a discount. They certainly don't have to. I'm certainly glad when they do though!

I'm totally with you that I think trips are expensive with a discount. I couldn't imagine going without one and thankfully haven't had to try.

Buying something with a coupon is having that discount in hand before purchasing it.

That link says it was published 7/23...but I didn't see an effective date.

I think the issue is that they booked the package expecting a discount and became mad when FD was not released. However, Disney has no incentive to allow FD if they have sufficient occupancy so they are hurting themselves and others hoping for FD by booking before the offer is released.

I don't think anyone said that.

What was being said is that it is pointless to make a reservation at rack rate if you aren't going to keep the reservation. It doesn't hold a "spot in line" for you. So if you have no intention in paying rack rate the reservation is pointless. That statement has nothing to do with someone's income level. I don't book until the deal I want is available. It has nothing to do with what I can afford.

I totally agree about not holding a spot in line. I don't do it - why bother? I don't want to argue, so I'm not going to go back and look for specific posts, but there were some about not taking vacations that one can't afford. So anyway... :)

That link is in a different language, so I can't read it, but wouldn't it be something if they only offer it to South America.

That has never ever happened before, and let's not forget that even before Danny posted that he new the last offer, a poster from South America told everyone the deal. I think the poster's name was MarionC, IIRC.

FWIW, I think Black562 is still going to be proved correct. If you read his post he was guessing at the VISA release date, that wasn't confirmed. We now have a second blogger saying the VISA release date is tommorrow which makes sense, because I thought it was usually 48 hours before the offer goes public. At any rate I think this offer goes live Aug 1st.

We have already booked from Dec. 15th-24th using the FD PIN, but will change that to the Dec. 12th-24th if the public offer does have that date change and our resort room category is available. We haven't booked the flights yet so our dates are still flexible.

Linymom, I thought you were moving on? Trying to get everyone stirred up against these "awful" people isn't helping anyone. Go take a bubble bath or something and calm down.....

Exactly, I sincerely laughed so hard my tummy hurt when I saw the post after they had "moved on"
I for one am happy for any info that comes down, even if its hints.
My day wasn't ruined because the discount didn't come out, my day however involved a lot more humor than I had thought due to people on here basically freaking out and saying the info leakers should be in trouble......what do they want, to send them to time out...baaahaaaa!

Exactly! I'm pretty sure this is what most people were thinking. Disney doesn't have to offer any discounts. When they do, great!! But don't get angry because you expect one and don't get it for your dates.

Actually, you can book a DV discount before it hits the rewards site. I have done it several times. All deals are bookable at 7am on their release date even if they are not yet posted on the DV site or even the Disney site. The sites have often not been updated until mid morning on the day of release. The DV deals are just not bookable at all online, unlike Disney's offers. :goodvibes

Thanks for the clarification. :goodvibes
