Hi all,

This is my first post here. I have searched the forum, but I have not seen any mention of this company, Yellow Scooter. We used apple last time and were mostly satisfied, but this company is even less expensive and has brand new, bright yellow scooters that are about as attractive as an ecv can get!

Another thing that is swaying me is that the smaller scooter has a 300 lb weight limit instead of 275 at apple. I will admit that 35 years of Prednisone have not done my figure any favors. I am about 272, so right at the limit for Apple's Pride Traveller Elite. Last time I was afraid that being so close I would wear down the battery prematurely, so I ended up renting the Victory 10. It was extremely comfortable, but awfully unwieldy for a first-timer on the buses. I was really hoping to get something a bit more maneuverable and the one at Yellow looks like just the thing. The price is right, too! I'm just a little wary because I can hardly find ANY information about them outside of their own website. I think they are quite new. I figured that if anyone knew anything, it would be y'all! We are leaving in ten days so I really need to lock this down.

Thanks!
Seraphina

The reason you have not seen anything about this company is that you are the first person to have posted about it.

Many people prefer to rent from a company with a lot of feedback. The companies listed in in post 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread are there because they have a lot of feedback over the years.

Some people are OK with renting from a new company without much feedback, so if you're OK with it, go for it.

One thing that I was told from the person who sold me my scooter, that it is better to have at least 50lbs over your weight for the weight limit on the scooter.

If I was looking for a scooter at the weight you said, I wouldn't look at one that had a limit less than 325lbs.

I know that this past January when we rented from Apple for another member of our party, they asked her weight. She weighs around 250. They rented her the one that you rented, because there was not 50lbs between her weight and the limit on the scooter. It would have been too hard on the batteries otherwise.

Just saying that it is something to keep in mind. Another thing to factor into the weight is the amount of things other than you that is going to be carried on the scooter. It all adds up and my experience is that the one with the scooter becomes the pack mule for everyone, since no one is feeling the weight of what they are carrying.

Good point about the "pack mule" tendency. Just the other day I was weighed for paratransit in my chair and I weighed 146 lbs. Well I myself weigh 110, and my chair is under 20, so just daily I am carrying around 10-15 lobs of stuff! And when I am in Disney, I end up carrying enough to take me over the Alps...

Also just to mention what is going on on another thread, that only certain companies are allowed to leave or pick up scooters, wheelchairs, and strollers at bell services. Those companies are Apple, Walker, Buena Vista. All other companies have to physically meet you to deliver and pick up their equipment.

Just wanted to warn you of this issue in case it might be an issue with you and your plans. The above 3 companies can leave their equipment with bell services and pick them up from bell services. The guest does not have to be present with them unlike any other company.

This is what was just posted on the thread that I was talking about. It is put out by Disney.

Dear Sir/Madam:
This letter is to inform you that the Walt Disney World® Resort (hereafter, Disney) has entered into agreements with certain vendors of Electric Conveyance Vehicles (ECVs), wheel chairs, and strollers. This has resulted in the development of new policies for the delivery and pickup of these items. These policies will go into effect Thursday, November 1, 2012 and will be strictly enforced.
Therefore, other vendors of ECVs, wheelchairs, and strollers (hereafter said devices) with which Disney does not have an agreement, must adhere to the following policies:
1. All deliveries and retrievals of said devices must be done in a public area at the resort the Guest is staying.
2. All deliveries and retrievals of said devices must be made directly with the guest who has reservedlrented the vehicle(s) while the Guest is physically present.
3. Devices may not be left at any location on Disney property to be picked up by a Guest or retrieved by a vendor.
4. No back stage access to theme parks, resorts, water parks, Downtown Disney, or other non-Guest areas, will be granted for the purpose of delivering or retrieving of said devices.
5. A said device that is left at any location on Disney property, by a vendor or a Guest in the process of delivering or retrieving it, will be considered abandoned.
6. Any such abandoned device will not be released to a Guest, even if that Guest claims that it was dropped off for the Guest use pursuant to a rental agreement.
7. Abandoned devices will only be released to a vendor upon payment of a $75.00 handling and storage fee.
8. Any agent, owner, or employee of a vendor found in a backstage area without certified written approval, will hereafter be issued a trespass warning, permanently barring that individual from entry onto Walt Disney World® property.
9. It is the sole responsibility of the vendor to contact Guests who have reserved any of the said devices beyond October 31, 2012, and arrange for physical pickup and delivery with that Guest.
Any questions or concerns should be directed to Walt Disney Sourcing and Procurement at 407-828-3764 or 407-828-3342.
Thank you,

Peemagg,

Thank you so much for your help! You know, I hadn't even considered the "pack mule" thing. Last time I had so much stuff draped over me that I looked like a parade float. I had read something about the preferred provider thing, but I thought it was just a rumor. It looks like the Apple Victory 10 is the way to go!

You are welcome! I brought it up, because I know that I become the pack mule for my family.

Most of us that use scooters become the pack mule for our families I have a big basket on the front and a big back pack on the back of my seat

Although this was a wheelchair, it was a delivery. Drop issue. I called for the drop meet and received a call back the chair was AWOL when vendor went to pick up previous renter and it was not there. It never was located and the resort gave us length of stay chair. The company I delt with many times, it was not his lacking that it happened. The people were to drop at 9:00 am at 2:00 pm, when his route took him there, it was missing.

This may be part of the reason now for no Disney custody, use face to face.

I too stumbled upon Yellow Scooters, and came here looking for reviews. I just can't seam to find any.

Any thoughts, reviews, recommendations would be appreciated :)
Oh and we are staying off-site, so no need to worry about disney preferred vendors.

You won't find any reviews on this company, because people have not used them as far as we have heard on here.

They are a new company that no one knows much about.

When I was in WDW in August I saw a couple that had rented these scooters. You could not miss that bright color !!! I asked how they liked them and was told they were quite comfortable. Nothing negative was said.

We rented from Yellow Scooter, and they were by far the lowest price I could find. I looked at 6 different companies for a 7 day trip, we saved $75 by renting from Yellow Scooters. I was very comfortable and easy to control. They delivered my scooter 4hrs before my requested time so it was there when I arrived 3.5hrs early to my resort.

Just wanted to point out that as of November 2012, only certain vendor are allowed to drop off scooters, wheelchairs and other equipment at resorts for pick up by the renter later. They are listed in post 2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

Yellow Scooters is not one of the companies that are authorized to leave items for pick up. Renters will need to make arrangements to meet a company representative for delivery at the start of the rental period and for pick up when they leave.

Our annual Orlando family vacation occurred during July of 2014. My mom, who is just shy of 75 years old, has recently had two knee surgeries and requires a motorized scooter for any walking trips. This year, instead of renting from the parks, we decided to rent from an Orlando business to avoid my mother having to walk from the parking lots to the actual parks. I choose this company because its online advertisements stated it would “last all day in the parks.” I even rented the extra battery, so we could charge one while we used the other one. Each battery weighs about 50 pounds. I checked the required weight limit for the scooter, and my mom fell into the average range. I thought we were ready to go. We are the family that arrives when the park opens and stays until the park closes, or until we drop. This scooter was supposed to keep up with us.
Well, this scooter did not last all day long. On Tuesday we departed Animal Kingdom early because the scooter was dying. My children we disappointed. We barely made it back to our car before the battery just died. I assumed I had just not properly charged the battery as I’ve never done this before. We went on to Universal Studios on Thursday. We arrived at the park around 10:30 am and at approximately 4 pm, the scooter died, in the middle of a rainstorm in the middle of Diagon Alley. My 75 year old mother was essentially stranded in the middle of a crowed, rainy, amusement park. After an ordeal with Universal Studios about using an electrical outlet, we called Yellow Scooter Rentals for help and advice. I spoke with Lisa, a representative. Lisa at first was cordial and listened to my concerns. She suggested I call her driver and ask him what to do. I quickly asked her to do that (as I feel it is her job to help me). She did and called me back. Her response was we should have rented a spare battery. I informed her that we did. She stated I should I brought it with us. I reminded her that the battery weighs 50 pounds! It’s not something I can carry around a park with my 75 year old mother and my two children. Then Lisa stated that she didn’t know how much my mother weighed by if she weighed too much the scooter would not last the 30 miles a day it was guaranteed to last. I use an iPhone app to keep track of my walking daily. We did NOT walk that much that day; we walked approximately 15 miles. After this she asked if I received a charger with the scooter. I told her we did. We received two chargers, one for each battery. Then she said we should have brought the charger with us. I informed her that we did, but were having trouble with Universal Studios with using an outlet. She then informed me that “Universal wont’ let us into the park.” I explained that I didn’t want her/Yellow Scooter in the park, I just wanted advice and help as to how to how my mother. She repeated blamed Universal Studios for my troubles. I reminded her that I was guaranteed a full day at the parks with this scooter. She asked “Who did you speak to when you reserved it?” I told her I used the online reservation system and only chatted online with a representative whose name was at my home in Georgia. Again, Lisa blamed Universal Studios and repeated “Universal wont’ let us into the park.” I finally said,” I don’t want nor am I asking you to come to Universal Studios. I’m asking you to compensate us for your failure to meet your guarantee.” She said there was nothing she was going to do.
I stated that if she was not going to do anything, I would write bad reviews on every web site I could find that dealt with scooter rentals. At this point, Lisa hung up on me. Yes, she really hung up on me.
Therefore, based on our week of using this scooter rental company, the battery’s failure to last all day, and the company’s failure to respond to my request for help, I do NOT endorse this company.

Sincerely,
Laura Douglas

Writing this over and over again on this one site isn't doing anything you wrote it here if you want go to other web sites and write it there but putting it on 4 threads here isn't right

I don't understand why people are upset that the other poster told about her dissatisfaction with the company. I saw another thread closed with no reason why. Other people post when they have a bad experience with different vendors, so why is this poster being told not to post about it?

She wrote it on 4 different threads if I had a problem I would put that info here but I wouldn't dig up 4 old threads and say it over and over

I rented a 3-wheel scooter from Yellow Scooters for a one-day trip to Epcot. They have a shop about a mile from my house, so I just picked it up and returned it myself.

I found the staff to be knowledgeable and helpful. Laura, a little slip of a girl who couldn't have been more than 5' tall, 110 lbs., was able to assemble and disassemble the scooter in a matter of minutes and gave us detailed instructions as she did it. The main part of the scooter and the battery fit easily into the trunk of a Volvo sedan, and we put the seat part and basket in the back seat. We were offered the option of renting a second battery but we declined (turned out we didn't need it). The scooter was as comfortable as those things can be, and it was very maneuverable. I had no problem negotiating the winding lines at Soarin' and the scooter was easy to get in and out of the elevator in that building.

We picked up the scooter on Sunday afternoon at about 4:30 and returned it at 9:00 am on Tuesday. I was only charged for one day - $40.

DH and I are planning to go to Food and Wine in September, and I'll definitely be using Yellow Scooters again.
