I liked the original W&D theme and medals where the event was the theme, not a rotating set of IP. I love the 40th anniversary idea and the extinct attractions, let's hope that is the way they go.
The 2017 was inspired by it being Epcot’s 35th with the theme being about taking a trip around world showcase (10k & half medals were luggage tag inspired while the challenge was a passport invoking old logos and the kids race was figment)This is a great idea. I really hope they do this. The medals should evoke the icons of long-ago cherished rides that no longer exist, like Horizons, World of Motion, and Journey Into Imagination

They are villains though! Their goal is to usurp! (I jest- you make good points.)Give villains their own race series, don't just usurp
Yeah you should know about the theme before registration. If you look at the main race page for last year, or the registration announcement on social channels, they made it clear that they were going with a villains theme, along with an indication as to which characters would be on the medals. My mom has been asking to do a weekend getaway this fall so I immediately thought maybe we can go for w&d. However, the villains don’t really do it for me. Any idea when the theme gets announced? Is it before registration?
Thank you very much! I know the "when will registration be?" question gets asked a lot and no one really knows. As for when the theme is announced? No idea. The late registration for last year (July) threw things for a loop, but before that I think registration was generally in March or April? It's something to just keep an eye out for.

Agree completely. I really liked the Chef Mickey themes and really disliked the villain theme. In spite of that I had a great time running W&D HM for the fifth time last year.As much as I don't like the villains theme I wouldn't let it keep you from doing the weekend.
Great point. I've run princess twice and I'm also not much of a princess fan either. As much as I don't like the villains theme I wouldn't let it keep you from doing the weekend. W&D is a great race weekend, my favorite, and even though I wasn't a huge fan of the 2018 theme and medals I still loved the event. I admit that I generally don't let the medal or "theme" make decisions for me, I base the races I'll do mostly on the location and course and if it is a cool medal that is a bonus.
What keeps you coming back to run every year? I've never been to w&d but have run the Jan and Feb races.Agree completely. I really liked the Chef Mickey themes and really disliked the villain theme. In spite of that I had a great time running W&D HM for the fifth time last year.

I am curious though, why is this your favorite weekend?

The only comment that concerns me is the training in the summer bit. I run year round so it wouldn't be unusual for me to train in August but I was looking forward to taking it easy this summer.
