Why are we as a community accepting of no tram service?

If you follow the path from Mickey and Friends as shown below, it's a little over a half mile. There are no trams. I found the same thing to be true at WDW when I was there last week. I had to walk to the parks from where I parked my car, and it was a walk.

What kind of pressure do you think will make a difference right now? I've been parking at the Toy Story lot, and though it's not my first choice, it is an option. I do leave before most of the crowds so haven't had to deal with a large wait.

And I will admit that when I parked at Mickey & Friends the first time I had to sit down on Main Street and talk myself into getting up and walking back. Once I got started, though, as tired as I was, I just dealt with it and it wasn't as bad as I had built up in my mind. The walk is lined with trees and there are benches to rest (of course, I walked early in the morning and late at night, so no sun to bother me). The people I really felt for were the ones in wheelchairs (not ECVs) and the lady walking with a walker. I hope that Disney does offer some type of vehicle service for the disabled, and that she just didn't know about it.

I guess, as a community we can just not go, but I don't think that there are enough people that are willing to give up going to Disneyland that would make any kind of monetary impact. The other thing would be to write and make a statement/complaint at City Hall.

I might have heard wrong, but I thought most of the trams were in bad shape and needed extensive work to get up and running? If that is the case, why doesn't disney just get them fixed, which gives peoples jobs, and get them running again. It's a sad situation when the trams are let go and people of all ages have to walk that far. I would like to think they are working on it.

Just for grins, this might be a great application for those rental scooters scattered across various cities. Rent it "one way" ... from garage to gate or gate to garage.

Of course, if Disney should ever "look the other way" on certain items in their "forbidden" list ... it might help! Scooters, Segways, OneWheels, Skateboards, Wheelies, etc. Paint two lane lines creating a wide channel down the center for all pedestrian traffic ... and narrow lanes along the outsides one-way wheeled traffic. Hmmmmm .....

All in jest. Just trying to find a fun way to integrate my daily Onewheel mile with my DLR day trips. :moped:

The entire fleet reportedly needs to be replaced. They are not salvageable. They are 20 years old ag this point and sat around for 14 months without having been properly prepared for long term storage.

And as we all know, automotive parts are hard to come by right now. It's gonna take as long as it takes to get a brand new fleet of trams in service.

And it is a mile from the structure. Everyone measuring it at less is neglecting the amount of walking you have to do once you step off the escalator. They have set up a long maze like path that takes you into the old tram loading area for security check and then loops you back out and around to where the trams used to come back in. That part right there is almost another half mile. I've done it numerous time and it's just about one mile every time.

Now, it is shorter to just cross over into the Pixar Pals structure (every level has an access point) and use the pedestrian bridge then (and this is important) cut across the employer parking lot in a diagonal to get to the ride share drop off/pick up area and then over to the security check near the DLH. That way you can walk through DtD where there is at least music playing and stuff to see and bathrooms and food places if you need that. It's a shorter walk by about 1/4 the distance. We do it that way exclusively now.

Thanks to all for this conversation re: Disney parking locations. It has cemented, in my mind, to continue using the Toy Story lot ... but next time, I will walk back to the parks rather than use the Disney Bus.

For reference, on Monday, it took 1 hour from the time I parked my car, cleared Toy Story security, loaded and bus and then reached a park gate. A full hour ... most of it waiting for the bus. So, next time, I'll park, walk and take my chances with onsite security? We'll see how that goes ...

I got the impression Disneyland is suffering from a significant labor shortage. Last week I saw overfilled garbage bins. The park was a lot dirtier than I remember it. Usually, when a piece of popcorn falls there is a member of the cleaning crew picking it up. There were cast members in training on almost every ride we rode. We had a first-time Jungle Cruise skipper and she was not good at all. Where there were cast members before there weren't any. No cast member where the 2 lines at haunted mansion merge creating potential guest conflicts. The line to incredicoaster went out across the pier blocking traffic and no one was there monitoring it. By far the jankiest Disneyland visit I've ever had. Incredicoaster had a 50-minute wait and they were only running one side of the track. Seems Disney has no problem packing the parks above what their staffing levels can accomdate and that is unfortunate. Hopefully, they get their act together soon.

We definitely experienced some unevenness in our last visit that was unexpected from Disney and presumably due to lack of staffing/experience. On multiple rides (RSR, Space Mountain, Indy, and even the Storybook Canal Boat, which don't exactly have a fast ride cycle), the cast members were not able to keep up with counting out groups and were letting many seats go unfilled, which extends wait times.

In other places, the staffing seemed imbalanced -- there were three staff members outside Paradise Garden Grill whose sole purpose seemed to be to tell people "yes, wait here until your mobile order shows as complete in the app and then go to the specified window", while inside the kitchen they were unable to get any food out. We had a similar experience at Stage Door Cafe, where there were five people staffing the registers and waiting around impatiently for any food to come out of the kitchen (we got the message saying "your order is ready" before they had even made it). We also saw janitors sweeping invisible dirt inside of Indiana Jones, while at the same time experiencing bathrooms that were substandard in cleanliness and repair -- empty toilet paper rolls (which was a first for me), empty soap dispensers -- it seemed like most of the time either the sink or the dispenser didn't work.

I was also surprised by the amount of downtime at many attractions, including the one track at Incredicoaster that you reference. I had assumed that all of the ride maintenance staff were kept on during the shutdown to keep rides operable but maybe that wasn't the case or those folks have moved on to other jobs. When we visited in May and had the ferris wheel break down, 5 maintenance personnel appeared almost immediately and had it back up in 10 minutes. In 14 prior visits to Disneyland, I've never had Space Mountain break down while I was in line or on the ride. This time it happened twice over a 2.5-day visit. Despite being stuck on the ride for 15 minutes, all I was offered was a chance to ride again immediately once they got it back up (e.g., keep sitting in the ride vehicle in the station until they were ready to run again), no offer of a Multiple Experience Pass. Luckily we did get a Multiple Experience Pass when we waited 45 minutes for Webslingers after redeeming our virtual queue and they were unable to get it back up (it took several hours, which made the wait time insane later in the evening; we chose to use our MEP on Monsters After Dark instead).

I'm really hoping they staff back up and don't keep sliding down toward Six Flags/Knott's status.

I suppose they'd tell me to rent an ECV, but then that would take one out of service for someone who really needs it.

If you need it you need it. IF you need it, get it. Don't harm yourself because you feel you're not ECV-worthy.

Both Six Flags Magic Mountain and Universal have trams/busses.

Universal Hollywood has trams from their parking structure?

For people for whom it's a convenience, this makes sense. For people for whom it's a matter of accessibility, it's quite different. Shows are great but not medically necessary, right?

The question is why people accept it. I'm not going to Disneyland right now, but if I were and if I stayed in a place where trams were an issue, I would accept it because I can deal with it. It's not an issue for me. That doesn't negate that it is an issue for others. But in a question of why people accept it, saying that it's not an issue is a totally legit answer.

This is a huge issue. Especially when you pay for parking $25 a day or paying 1400$ for a pass to include parking. No excuse

i went to guest relations in Disneyland to file a complaint and they seem to be getting a lot of people complaining about it because the response I got was “Oh yes…” and the cast member just clicked a few boxes on an iPad and said ok all set. I asked if she needed my name or ticket, she said no we have a simple procedure for this complaint…”.
I suggest everyone go and complain, it took 2 minutes

i was also told by her to send an email to Disney about it as well.

No, 99% employees were furloughed. On one day, a friend who was on during this time was able to get a pic of themselves with the other 11 people working in the resort that day. (7 were security.). So many believed people just kept working, but not true. They did have a few contractors, but only employees to escort the contractors and protect the park from trespassers and a couple maintenance guys when it was discovered the doors on Main St had issues..... Plants were removed, ducks went nuts without people around (and when they did see people, they were aggressive), and spiders took over Autopia.... Hopefully they will get the trams back, but I don't see it in the next quarter.

Please remind me what level of Pixar Pals to walk the pedestrian bridge?

We walked back this way last time and was nice. When you come in the morning, which security check: from the employee parking or the DLH/DTD one?

We've actually never did this+monorail before and looking to do it next nonhotel visit. We used to be ToyStory folk since coming from the south and liked that before it became such a bear with the bus waits

Guests can only use the security checkpoint near DLH. The other is for employees only. They allow guests to walk through the employee one on the way OUT only.

From OC Register on Oct 25: "
The end is near for Disneyland visitors tired of huffing and puffing along the nearly mile-long tram route between the parking garages and the front gates as the Anaheim theme park prepares to bring back the trams that have been out of commission since March 2020.
Tram service between the Mickey and Friends and Pixar Pals parking garages and the front gates of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will return in early 2022, according to Disneyland.

Disneyland continues to slowly add capacity and make operational adjustments during the phased reopening of the resort, according to Disneyland officials. The Anaheim theme park will conduct maintenance on the parking trams and rehire staff during the next few months."

Goes on to say how much people have complained about the "death march" from the parking structure to the front gate.

I parked in the structure once. Never again. Now I just drop everyone off and go park in garden walk for half the price and do the lone dad walk to and from the park.

It’s absolutely insane that they are raising prices of tickets and parking without providing the baseline service of transportation.

The Chapacity of it all.
