Split Stay at DVC and non DVC

We r hoping to rent at BLT for a few days and then transferring to Port Orleans for the remainder of our vacation to met up with our daughter and grandchildren when they arrive a few days later. Have never done a split stay before so not sure how the logistics work r/t magic band and reservations and also transferring of luggage from one resort to the other?

Appreciate any insight from folks who have done this.

Thanks!

We did a split stay once between POR and OKW. In our case, we just chose to check in to OKW the "old-fashioned way"-we went to the front desk and checked in.

Take your luggage to Bell Services in the lobby at BLT the morning you check out. Tell them you've going to POR. They will transfer all your luggage for you. Then, walk the 20 feet over to the main desk at BLT and check out. This step is necessary to allow your magic band to access your POR room when ready.

Then, online check in at POR (if you have not already done so). When you get the room ready text, you can go straight to your room and your magic band will (hopefully) open the door.

Your ADR's and fastpasses are tied to your MDE account, not your room reservation, so no issues there.

Thank you for your help! Does not sound too difficult..

Agree with this. We do split stays all the time and it's usually really smooth. A heads up on the luggage transfer, though -- that can take a while. We moved from Yacht to Wilderness Lodge (checked out at 11am) and we didn't get our bags until almost 9pm. Probably an outlier, but just know it's possible. So now we just Uber or Minnie Van and take things ourselves so we will have them when we need them.

When we moved from POFQ to BWV we just called a Lyft and brought our luggage with us. Room wasn't ready in the morning, we left our luggage with Bell Services, and it was easily available when our room was ready. Split stays are easy and a good way to see different resorts.

Good to know and that might be an option. Thanks!

Thanks! Never did a split stay and we want to try BLT but daughter is firm on POFQ and does not want to try anyplace else. So we plan to head down a few days earlier to stay at BLT and then head to POFQ to be with daughter and her family. I agree with you on a split stay being a good way to check out other resorts!
