I thought this might be of particular interest to cancer survivors and family, if you going to be at Disney this weekend.
This Friday night through noon on Saturday (April 25th-26th, 2008) will be the 2nd annual Relay for Life of Lake Buena Vista at RCID Fire House # 4 just up the road from Downtown Disney.
Relay teams will consist of members of the community representing LBV hotels, businesses, Reedy Creek Improvement District and of course, Disney.
6pm is the opening ceremony. Meg Crofton, President of Walt Disney World Resort is scheduled to speak and official kick off Disney VoluntEARS' 25th Global Celebration. Survivors will be honored during the opening ceremony, which is followed by the Survivor and Caregiver laps which kick off the Relay. (There will also be a VIP area for survivors this year.)
9pm - Luminaria Ceremony.
10:30pm - 11:30am - Spirit Point Competition between teams
11:30am - Closing Ceremonies
noon - Final Team Lap and conclusion of Relay
Some of the fundraising activities which will run throughout the night and are open to everyone are:
Massages and a bounce house for the kids!
Casino games, raffles for hotel stays, golf packages, Disneyania and more.
Hot food, sandwiches, beverages and snacks including the famous Doubletree cookies. Food will be served throughout the night and breakfast will be available in the morning.
Disney Horticulture is planning a plant sale
Disney Radio will provide the entertainment from 6 - 9pm
After 9:30 and throughout the night there will be a DJ.
The Relay field is next to Fire House #4 at 1920 E. Buena Vista Drive, across from SSR.
Speaking as Hodgkins Lymphoma Survivor and Disney fan, this event is the perfect fit. It's a mix of emotional moments and just plain good fun, with a little pixie dust mixed in.
