Relax…Keep Calm…A Taking It Easy Adult Trip to Food and Wine

“Adults are only kids grown up, anyway.” Walt Disney

Here I go again!! It seems I finish one TR in time to roll out a new one! Am I complaining?! Nope!!

We will be leaving for our 12th trip to Walt Disney World in just a few short days-9 to be exact!! :hyper: Yes, it is our 12th trip and yes as the title states, this is an adult only trip! (Although our kids are old enough now that when we go it is just an extended adult trip, so let’s say this is an over 35 year old trip!)

I don’t know about you but we get these questions ALL OF THE TIME!

“Why do you go to Disney so much!?”
“You’re going again???”
“Don’t you get tired of going to Disney?”
“You know there is more in this world than Disney, right?”
“Just the two of you are going? Isn’t Disney a little young?”

I almost get to the point where I just don’t really mention I am going once again! Some people get it and they make me feel much better about myself…as in I’m not some lunatic! Okay, okay, I know better and I really just roll my eyes and move on with my life! But still people…

”You KNOW there is more to vacations that renting a condo in Orange Beach every summer, right?!”
“Don’t you get tired of going to the beach where there is nothing but sand and reading to do?”
“Isn’t this beach trip like the third one this year!?”

Now, I am not really knocking other people’s vacation choices! We go to Gatlinburg, TN almost as much as Disney! Just don’t judge me for liking Disney and wanting to return! I don’t judge you! Can I get an Amen?!

So yes, we are heading back to Disney. In all actuality we had discussed possibly doing other things. I had until August 6 to make the final payment and literally up until 6pm that night, we were weighing what to do! We had discussed going to Williamsburg, VA, driving westward to the Grand Canyon, going back to Gatlinburg…in the end, we decided that any other option would mean driving somewhere almost daily. The bonus with sticking with Disney is it should be warm so lazy days by the pool could happen, we can let Disney do any driving, Food and Wine is happening and the food in general!! Plus most everything is paid for up front.

So Disney won out!!

Well, before I go further, let me introduce who is going on this trip! It is just me, Tisa, and DH, Keith.

I am the Disney loving, addict, nerd whatever term you choose to use. I am the one that sees hidden Mickeys in every little thing! I am the one that friends and family turn to when wanting to plan a trip…I am also the one that has to be sure not to overdo it or else Keith will stop going! And then there is my husband who declared to not like WDW before ever going but after our trip in 2010, he now actually suggests going. As a matter of fact this trip was his thought...and he was the one that got us off the fence in August! He does not like Magic Kingdom (weird, I know! :faint:). He does love The Citizens of Hollywood at DHS, Ohana, and wandering around World Showcase and Toy Story Mania.

These past few months have been pure chaos around our house! Between work, moving one child out of state and another child to college, we are plain out exhausted!! So our goals for the trip is to just go with the flow, take it easy, enjoy doing whatever comes our way, keep calm and relax!! We will see just how relaxing, calm and laid back this trip is when we return!

We will be driving and leaving at some point on Friday, September 19th. This is actually a bonus day since I am getting a full comp day due to overtime work. Keith may have to work that morning so departure time is iffy. But I am very excited about having this full day to begin driving down with no agenda and not really having to worry about the arrival time in Orlando! I did online check-in weeks ago and put in an early arrival time. If we manage to arrive at the resort early in the day on September 20th, the plan is to hang out by the pool…room or no room being ready! Maybe we will go to Downtown Disney, do a counter service lunch, and relax until time for dinner.

We will be leaving the following Saturday (September 27th) so we have enough days to hopefully re-energize and get ready for the busy fall and holiday seasons!!

I’m doing this a little differently than I have in the past. This is a precursor to the actual TR but since it is too short for a true PTR, I’m tagging it on here, plus I think it will be easy to identify what we do, don’t do, tweak or add! I also plan (although NO promises!) to give mini-updates while in the World on the Food and Wine Festival since I know a few people will be going before I can do my full TR! It won’t be “real” updates and I’ll go into further detail as I do the TR, but just a little teasing of what is happening! But, as I said, no promises since I will be on vacation and may not have a chance to stop relaxing and post! :goodvibes

So finally some details…. What to talk about first!? Resort, food/ADRs or FPPs/plans???

Thanks for letting me know you started thus. Going back to read.

*I'm back and shouting a big old AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! My sister in law used to ask us all the dang time why are ya'll going to Disney World again. I finally got tired of it and shot back with a "Same reason ya'll go to the beach every single year for as long as I can remember!" She's hasn't asked me the question any more.

That man of your's is coming around slowly but surely. Before long, you'll have him likin' the Magic Kingdom. Okay, so maybe that's stretching it.

AMEN!

Sorry, I just had to give you an amen. People have actually stopped asking me or commenting, because I go so often. I think they get tired of my eye rolls. :lmao:

Can't wait to hear all about it AND Food and Wine!

AMEN, SISTA!!! I'm right with you wanting people to stop acting like I'm crazy just because we're going to Disney again.

Thanks for giving me the heads up that you had started the TR. I can't believe you're already in the single digits for your countdown! :cool1:

And, of course, I would be super happy to get some F&W updates but completely understand if you don't get around to doing that.

I think you are always first! :goodvibes I find it ironic that people never think going somewhere over and over again is odd unless it is to Disney!

I keep trying to think of little ways to get him to like MK! I keep telling him he isn't giving it a chance. He has very little patience or undisciplined children and MK just seems to have more than the other parks. (Disclaimer: Not saying all children are undisciplined!)

Doesn't it always make you feel better knowing there are others out there "sufferng" like you do!? :rotfl: We go to New Orleans and Gatlinburg as much if not more than Disney but Disney is the only place we get the question "Again??" So glad you're here! Obviously you are one of the ones I know will be heading down for F&W...hopefully I can at least post a little bit for ya!

Here!!

Well said. I don't understand people's decisions to go to the beach or camping for vacation, but I certainly would never judge them for it. If you like it and it doesn't hurt anybody, do it.

I think your plan to just simply go with the flow is a great one. Why not? It's vacation. :goodvibes

So happy you made it!!! That's what I say...exactly!! I say to each there own! If everyone enjoyed doing the same thing...it would be a mighty boring world and a crowded place!! I am ready for this "go with the flow"!!

One week from tonight I will be getting all of my final packing done since we will be leaving the next day!!! Nah, I'm not excited!! :lmao:

My first plan to talk about is our resort!! Why is it that making that final decision on where to stay can be so difficult!? Sometimes more so than others! This trip, it seemed like I was trying to determine some huge, life changing decision!!

Since the week of September 20 – 27 was chosen due to the military discounts coming to an end for the year, I checked on several resorts with the room only discount as well as the Swan/Dolphin and Shades of Green. Shades of Green seems great but we were hesitant with the transportation. We probably will give it a try at some point but since Food and Wine is to be the focus, we decided to mark it off the list this trip.

Disney resorts in the running included: Beach Club, Boardwalk (my dream resort), Caribbean Beach Pirate Room only, and Coronado Springs. Beach Club and Boardwalk just didn’t fit into the budget so both of those got ruled out. CBR was ruled out due to the Pirate Room…we’ve “been there, done that” and had we had littles going with us that would have been different. CBR would have been a definite if I could have gotten any other type room! Keith ruled out CSR and not really sure why but he said he wasn’t “feeling that resort”.

I called the Swan/Dolphin for a quote and it was very budget friendly. So I booked at Dolphin and began researching. Although this isn’t a Disney resort, we can use Disney transportation, military gets 50% off at some dining locations, the pools get amazing reviews, and we can still utilize the Extra Magic Hours. The more I read up on the Dolphin, the more excited I got. I still am contemplating if cancelling will be a regret since we are going for F&W and the two parks we will be at most will be Epcot and DHS.

So yes, I cancelled the Dolphin and here is why….Free Dining came out and I looked at it ever so briefly. Not a good option for us. And then within a week after I got a PIN!!! And the PIN included POR/POFQ which the regular FD offer excluded. Keith said “Call and get a quote” since POR is where he really, really wants to stay we haven’t been here in a while and up until this point, POR wasn’t a great option cost wise.

I call and get a quote. I had done a little math when regular free dining came out to see where the quote would have to be in order to take advantage of the discounts. I get the quote and I will save only $100.00 dollars BUT I also have to factor in:

1. 4 Day Park Hoppers (military discount) vs 6 day Park Hoppers (free
dining). My choice to get only 6 day tickets since we have to
count travel days as non-park days.
2. With Free Dining, I can spread out our dining options more since we
would have credits and food is a major reason for this trip
3. Keith gets to stay at POR
4. The Magic Bands are “included” opposed to having to purchase the
military tickets on base and then link them (convenience is
becoming huge for me these days!)
5. Mini-golf is in the plan which means we save a whole $14!!!
6. We can get the refillable mug for “free” which may or may not be a
benefit but, hey, it’s free!!
7. Parking is free and we won’t have to pay “resort fees”.

So I booked the trip with POR for September 20-27 with the free dining and cancelled the Dolphin reservation. I really think we will use the Swan/Dolphin at some point and maybe soon. The benefits are awesome! My biggest “regret” is not being between DHS and Epcot since those are always our main focus!

It's been 2 1/2 long years since we have been to Port Orleans and 3 1/2 years since staying at Riverside, but soon we will be back "home"!!

Up next...more plans!!!

So glad the rsort worked out in y'all's favor! Sounds like a perfect choice for y'all. We'll be staying @ POFQ for just our 1st night in October & I'm excited to check it out.

I always avoided this one because it is so much like home...Southern plantations at Riverside and New Orleans at French Quarter but we just fell in love with it! I will say though...the "New Orleans" food everyone raves about and must get (beignets) are not all it's cracked up to be. I may give them another chance to see if I passed judgment wrongly since I keep seeing people proclaiming their awesomeness...but then I also confess to being a New Orleans food snob!! :lmao:

Where you're staying is so important! Even though we're DVC, we totally think about it too! It factors into so much. We are at Wilderness Lodge in November, and while it's not ideal for F&W, I haven't stayed there in forever and I think the resort is just lovely, so it won out.

Riverside is really lovely, you can't go wrong. I don't think you'll even notice it even with F&W being your focus.

Our departure day is getting ever so closer!! And I think one plus is Keith does not have to go to his weekly work meeting in Monroe, LA! this is good news since it is 1 1/2 hours one way so noon would have been the soonest we could leave. Now it appears we can leave a lot sooner!! :cool1: :cool1:

Just a quick post with my daily "plans".

Fast Pass Plus Reservations!!!

My day came to make my FPP reservations and most of these are not written in stone. One thing I learned over our New Year’s Eve trip is that I was able to easily move things around. Plus it is just Keith and I so I’m not having to worry about getting those super coveted FPPs! My Tuesday is the one day I hope to keep firm! This is my layout as of right now…we will see how much this changes post-trip!!

September 24, 2014

9:45 to 10:45 am: Tower of Terror
11:40 am to 12:40 pm: Toy Story Mania
12:40 to 1:40 pm: Star Tours

September 25, 2014

9:40 to 10:40 am: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
10:45 to 11:45 am: Big Thunder Mtn
11:55 am to 12:55 pm: Jungle Cruise

September 26, 2014

1:30 to 2:30 pm: Toy Story Mania
2:30 to 3:30 pm: Tower of Terror
4pm: Lights Motor Action

I think you can probably tell where our priorities lie! Tower of Terror and Toy Story Mania are our favorites…well the ones we really want to ensure we can get on quickly! I have a list of things on my priority list too! Carousel of Progress goes down as of Monday so I hope to get there on Sunday even if just long enough to experience it this trip. I am so upset Mickey’s Philharmagic will still be out of commission! I also plan to see the Welcome Show since I haven’t seen that in years!! And that rope drop experience gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes! I also plan to see the acts that were just announced to be leaving Epcot. I love all four so they will be missed! I just hope that whatever new act that is brought in is worthy to taking the place of these departing acts! Plus Maelstrom is now a “must” to say farewell! Also I plan to hit up LMA! Simply because it may disappear soon along with Indiana Jones, which we actually love! We may do the Backlot Tour too since it could go the way of the bulldozers also. And I plan to do Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom during AM EMH even if solo. Solo will be fine because I can ride the things Keith will not ride (Expedition Everest) and take pictures!

Our other activity options I have lined out (and by options, I literally mean that!) is bowling at Splitsville, mini-golf, biking and/or renting a kayak or canoe at Ft Wilderness, watching a movie under the stars, S’mores and a campfire, Characters of Flight and maybe an off-resort adventure! I have lots under my cap so if we get up one morning and say “What today?” we can go wherever our hearts desire!

Our Magic Bands are all ready to go! I didn't realize until they came that I'd chosen Auburn and Florida colors...if you know SEC sports, you'll understand why my Mississippi State hubby frowned at me when I opened the box!

And finally...there are a few things I have earmarked as possibilities and while some may or may not be nixed :-)rolleyes1) I am including everything that I have played around with since March!

Tours: Steam Trains, Marceline to Main Street and Keys to the Kingdom (could get discount for military)

Again this is just something I have penciled in and I am now leaning towards saving KTTK for the next trip Madison (DD18) can go on with us.

Concerts: Jo Dee Messina, The Pointer Sisters, and Rick Springfield

Jo Dee Messina is eh…can take her or leave her. The Pointer Sisters may be okay to listen to in passing. Actually that is how we normally listen to the concerts and not actually sitting in the theater. And then there is Rick Springfield who I had a crush on in 6th grade…I got excited about this one but Keith informed me I could enjoy that concert alone! We shall see!

MNSHHP: I am trying to convince Keith to try this. But it is in Magic Kingdom which I think is why he is not for it! I will keep trying though! Seriously…I keep going at this from different angles and to no avail! My latest tactic came when I received my daily Zulilly e-mail that included adult Halloween costumes…

I suggested I could go dressed-up but he still didn’t take the bait! They really weren't very Disney friendly! Oh well! I have until the day of to convince him due to the fact we will be using the military discount and those must be bought day-of.

Okay, the only planning details I have left are my dining plans!!

Riverside is really lovely, you can't go wrong. I don't think you'll even notice it even with F&W being your focus.

It really does make such a difference! I keep promising myself that one day we are going to rent DVC points...I just know Keith will be hooked if we do that! I have yet to visit Wilderness Lodge! It is one of the few resorts we haven't been to but hopefully this trip we will get to stop by for a short little visit!!

Getting closer...

Good looking FP selections and TWO MINE TRAINS!!! I'm the same way. I'll probably keep FP's I have, but changing them for the most part won't be difficult, especially in September.

I hadn't thought about the closing/leaving attractions (other than Maelstrom). I may have to add some of that myself now.

Keys to the Kingdom is awesome, but yeah, maybe wait on that for Madison as I think she'd enjoy it as well. The Marceline Tour would be a great choice though. Much shorter, PLUS, behind the scenes at HM (assuming it hasn't changed). This is one on my bucket list.

Good luck on the MNSSHP. I think that day is our only crossover. I actually have a Mine Train FP abut an hour before you that day. I'll try not to break it.

I read your plans update the other day and had to get off the Dis before I could post. (Stupid work gettin' in the way.)

Yay for Keith not having to come over to Monroe and now you get to leave earlier! Leaving earlier always calls for a little dance:woohoo:.

I'm liking the plans that you have intact. Lots of good FP+ selections. The "what are we going to do today" options are all great. It's good to have something on the backburner that you can pull out if need be.

Oh please don't break Mine Train before I get there!! :lmao:

Well your trip has started! We aren't far behind! I made notes on the Marcelline Tour...I think Keith would actually enjoy that one!

I do the same...I read on my phone but then forget to post! So I read lots
and have become a lurker by default! Stupid work getting in the way!! I'm really hoping my pre-planning thoughts help out in those "what now" moments!

Food, Food Food!!!!

Food is very important to us and Keith pretty much declares the dining experiences as his reasons for wanting to return. Of course we will have all of the amazing Food and Wine options! My list has been made and highlighted…with my goal being to try at least item at every location. If that goal isn’t reached, I will be fine as long as my “must try” list has been met! We aren’t doing any of the extra F&W experiences. I contemplated a few of them but as our desires of how we wanted this trip to be became more defined, scheduling even more stuff to do didn’t fit into the “relaxing and calm” trip itinerary. And honestly? I’ll be eating so much already that I don’t think we will miss it one bit! We didn’t last time.

As you can tell...I have an ADR addiction issue and I can't make up my mind or leave well enough alone!! :rotfl:

Also, I would like to fit in Spice Road Table and Tutto Gusto for drinks and snacks-probably not happening but a girl can dream!

Counter Service locations I’d like to try to work in are maybe a FP to BOG? But not sure since Keith wasn’t too keen about it last trip. Pecos Bills if we do MNSSHP and also Columbia Harbour House is good. Flametree BBQ at Animal Kingdom is also an option and Sunshine Seasons at Epcot. Bakery at France for breakfast and of course the Caramel store in Germany.

Honestly, there are a few other options playing around and things we may be doing, so in actuality, some of my dining plans may end up very differently. The one I know for sure will not change is Ohana because Keith reminds me over and over that we are going and asking when! As a matter of fact he made a comment last night...and for him to comment about vacation before we actually arrive...well that is pretty big!!

And we are off!! Hopefully I will be back before I return home with a few teaser updates!! So long for now!!

You mean you're missing the USM game to go to Disney?!?!? :rotfl2:

Can I go too? :sad2:

I'm looking forward to reading about your trip. Just make sure you leave some food for when we arrive on 10/05!

I don't know if you ever get My Magic + (old Photo Pass deal) but here is a new item just offered this week...

“Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho, it’s off to work we go!” That song brings up such great memories from my childhood favorite, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” We’ve been busy working on top-secret enhancements to the Disney PhotoPass Service and the Memory Maker product, and we’re excited to announce a new “gem” today.

What would you say if I told you that you could take home a special gem that would have you reliving all the fun and excitement of your moments aboard the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train attraction … your race through the diamond mine as you whisked across the rolling stone bridges, through diamond pass and into the forest to the Dwarfs’ cottage?

Just released today, we are excited to add a photo and video memento at Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Now, when you ride the attraction with a MagicBand and a linked Memory Maker entitlement you will have your photo and video automatically associated to your My Disney Experience account.

You’ll also be able to view, download and share the photo and video of your Family & Friends Connections and Managed Guests who also experienced Seven Dwarfs Mine Train while wearing a MagicBand.

They also do this for Tower of Terror!

Have fun. You could always stop in Hattiesburg on your way down and say hi! :cool1:

Yay! Y'all are there! :cool1:

Hope y'all are having a fantastic trip and I can't wait to hear all about it. Your plans all look great! :thumbsup2

And by the way....Congrats on Miss State beating LSU last night. Y'all played a great game and deserved that "W"!

:lmao:

Sounds like I may need to skip the New Orleans food offerings then. Sounds like they won't be up to par for this cajun girl. :rotfl:
