My II Exchange / DL Exchange room report

Hi - I see frequent questions concerning exchanges and thought I would share with you my experience.

We traded into a studio at Marriott's Timberlodge at Lake Tahoe. We had wanted a 1 or 2 bedroom but this was the only type available. We had traded at 7 months out and asked for any week June-August. We used 124 points. The studio was longer than a DVC one but narrower. It was nice to have a kig size bed and a queen sleeper. However, we had to move the eating table to the entry way to be able to open the sleeper. The bathroom was very large with the sink in the bathroom. The kitchenette was very comparable to DVC. We did not have a balcony though! This is the one thing I missed. The gondola's were right outside our window, thus we had a mountain view. Originally we were given a room on the 1st floor and I asked to be changed before looking at it. I was glad that I did! That room would have looked at a sidewalk and the wall that hid the pool area.

Several years ago we had considered purchasing at this resort. This is one of the reasons that we traded here was to check it out. Although I liked the room as it was nicely decorated and well maintained. I was not impressed with the kids club, the pool area or the dining options. I know that Lake Tahoe has a wealth of nice restaurants around, just none that we were really interested in right in that area. To avoid the nonmember $17 parking fee, we parked at Harrahs 2 doors down. Valet for tip only. We made it clear to the valet that we were not staying there, but would be visiting the casino on occasion. They said that it would not be a problem.

Now for the Disneyland portion. We used our points to stay at DL Hotel. The 1st room that we were given was next to the elevator and was so small that you had to turn to walk between the beds. It had no desk and no table. 2 beds and a nightstand, nothing else! I called immediately to the front desk and explained that the room was not what we had expected and it did not have a daybed as requested. We were moved to another building and found the room to our liking. I had used points for a premium view and felt like it was not worth it. It we go to DL again we will stay at GC.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the report.

When we used points at the DLH, we were upgraded to a pool view room. (We had booked the standard view). The room was huge!

I'm sure the upgrade happened because the resort wasn't fully booked and we only stayed two nights (March 3-5, 2006)
