Is it hard to make res, then change and have points put on new one?

We have just received our paperwork to sign this week. We are going to be sending it in shortly, but we already received our membership # and were told we could start booking now at the 11 month window. We want to make sure we get a room for when we go, which is Sept 1-10, 2002. We plan on splitting it up between our home resort of VWL and BWV. Since VWL is home, we can book starting next week. What we want to do is stay in a 1 bed std if avail at BWV for the beginning and end of our stay. In case we cant get it, we will stay at VWL the whole time. How difficult is it to make the res at VWL now, then at the 7 month window, if we can get the BWV we want, cancel out the days we dont need at VWL and just have the points move over there?? I hope i didnt make it to difficult to understand what im talking about, or is it common? Also, if for some reason we dont close on our dvc do to the amount of money they may require, do my res just cancel out since we wont be a member??......i hope that we do though!!

There is no problem with booking at WL at the 11 month window for the entire time of your trip and then calling at the 7 month window to see about booking some of your stay at BWV. If the reservation requires fewer points (it will if you get standard view) they will return the points back to the current use year. At 7 months out, you will be able to bank 50% of your total points so hopefully the amount you are not using will not be over this amount. And yes, if for some reason you are not made members, the reservation will be void since you are booking using points. Good luck and happy planning!

If there's availability at another DVC resort at the 7 month window, it's easy for Member Services to cancel all or part of your reservation at your home DVC resort and apply those points to your new reservation.

It's really easy when switching between the same sized BWV Preferred View and VWL units for the same days, because the point requirements are the same.

BWV Standard View have a reputation of being hard to book at the 7 month windows because BWV owners tend to grab Standard View units first. But it can be done. This year we changed from an OKW reservation to BWV Standard View at the 7 month window. We got a couple of days right away, and we were on the wait list for the remaining days. The wait list cleared in less than a week.

If you get the BWV Standard View reservation, you'll use fewer points. You just have to be careful that you don't miss a banking deadline with those points. Or if you made your initial reservation with borrowed points, you won't be able to bank them back to their original year.

By the way, this ease of switching reservations doesn't apply if your initial reservation was for a Disney Collection resort (such as the Poly and AKL). You can make those reservations at 11 months, but once your DVC points have been converted to reservation points, you can no longer use them for DVC stays or II exchanges.

Just a little advice on how to do it to avoid any hassle. Reserve all the days at 11 month window for VWL but make it three separate reservations, one for the period you intend to keep for VWL, one for the period you later want to switch to BWV at beginning of trip, and one for the period you want switch to BWV at the end of the trip.

If you were to just book all those days as one VWL reservation, MS may deal with your attempt to change at 7 months as requiring you to cancel the entire VWL reservation and then rebook all three parts including the VWL part, and all three parts, including the new VWL part, will be subject to availability at time you call at 7 months out. If you make the VWL reservation at 11 months out as 3 separate ressies, you will not face that issue as you will only need to cancel the particular ressie at VWL for the time you want at BWV when you try to make the switch.
