Getting to Universal from Disney resort

Hello everyone! We are attending Disney in Jan 2010. Last time we went (Dec 2007) we stayed at ASM. To get to Universal we took Mears the first day and it took an 1 1/2 hours to get there. The second day we took a small van service and although we told him we had an ECV the day before, the van he brought was not equipped for an ECV. He loaded, with the help of my father and brother, the ECV into the back area and rested it on a spare tire.
Is there a better and faster way of getting to Universal, SeaWorld? Or should we stay at those resorts? If we stay there for a couple of days, how do we get to WDW resorts for the rest of our vacation?
What would be cheaper and what would be less of a hassle? Thank you!!

Mear's, which controls many of the taxi services, has over 20 accessible van taxis. They use Ford Windstar vans with titanium ramps. They charge the regular taxicab fare, which is $2.20 for the first 1/4 mile and then 55¢ for each additional 1/4 mile. So the price each way would be about $40 plus tips.

Thank you for your reply! Just to clarify, is that $40 per person? Or just $40 per way? Thanks!!
