I look at it as not a change in a storyline, but as filling out the character of LeFou. It answers some questions about why he likes to hang around wit Gaston and his friends, even though they treat him poorly. I had this discussion with a friend of mine who has a little daughter. He is the kind that hate when any company remakes a movie and changes a lot of the plot...like he hated Dukes of Hazzard, and Brady Bunch because they made them silly. When I explained that, if it is done right, it can give more dimension for the character of LeFou, him him connect with the audience a bit, then he agreed. Of course, he and his wife planned to take his daughter anyway.
