Favorite Tip?

I'm sure I have a bunch, but here is one that we used once or twice.

If you are on the DDP and want to extend the amount of counter service meals you have you can buy 1 double-burger and order an extra bun for around a dollar. That way you have two sandwiches and can use the other meal later in the day.

If you get the dining plan, get the quick meals. Dont worry about the dining, because it is not worth it at all. The quick meals are quicker and you get a ton more food. For example, with quick meal service with a family of four, 2 adults 2 children, you get 2 quick service meals, 2 snacks per person per day. the meal consist of an appetiser, the meal combo, and desert and the snack consist of anything big or little.
Now heres the tip. When you get your resort keys, the meals are credited to the key card all at once. So if you have a family of 4 and are going for 7 days, you will be immediately credited with 56 meals and 56 snacks. Now, if you order food with the kids present, they will only give you kids meals and that is skimpy. So have the kids sit with one of the parents at the table, and have the other parent order 3 quick service meals. 1 for each of the parents and have the kids split the other one. For two kids splitting an adult meal is definetly plenty. Then with the meal you have left over, it could be used anytime, incase someone gets hungry. Again dont do sit down dining, if you go during peak times, you will be paying a lot more and you will also be waiting forever for meals to get cooked and thats not what you want to do while at diney.

I had heard (and used) that in 2005 but I thought that they differentiated between kids meals now. Can anyone verify either way?

We went March 2010 and they didnt then. I doubt there is any way they can tell. We found this one out on accident. My wife took the kids to the bathroom, while i ordered the meals. When the counter guy gave me adult meals, i didnt say anything, but when i got back to the resort I had them check to see if we lost out on adult meals. The lady at the resort said that all meals credited to the card are the same, but that if they see kids, they will give kids meals. For the rest of the trip, the kids werent present while i ordered and there were no problems at all. The extra meal worked out great. besides the snacks, when we all were a little hungry, we ordered another meal, and we all split appetisers, the fries and the meal, which is a big portion depending on where u go. The kids split the cake for desert and it was less money out of our pocket for a treat.

It doesn't matter for me for our upcoming trip, our older DS is 10 and the younger DS is 2 (free) but hope that the information helps someone!

The lid from a take-away drink (such as you'd get at McD's or the like) makes a great drip catcher for Popsicle, Ice Cream Bars, etc.

Just invert, put the treat's stick through the "x" in the lid...voila!

And if that doesn't do the trick, have a Tide-to-Go stick in your park bag just in case

OK this has got to be the best by far thing I have read on this board! Thank you so much..wow!

I have a few...

Designate more than 1 day for MK--it's like several parks in 1.

Buy the refillable mugs at your hotel. You can get coffee, juice, tea, and soda as often as you want. DH always fills his on our way to the buses in the morning and takes it to the park. DH & I each buy our own, but then we only buy 1 extra for our 3 kids b/c the mugs are huge and then we divide it into smaller cups in our room (the hotels give you plastic cups each day, or you can bring sippy cups or thermoses from home).

We order breakfast foods and cases of water from Garden Grocer and have them delivered to our room to save money.

I find that my DD and I can easily share counter service meals. That leaves extra CS credits to share for snacking or to use for breakfast at the hotel (which we usually dont buy).

Moms with little ones, carry a spare shirt for yourself, not just the kids--never know when you will get splattered with their spills!

Breastfeeding moms, there are nice nursing stations in each park that also have rooms for your hubby and kids to relax, watch tv, play with toys, and cool off.

If you want your child to get to participate in shows, it can help to dress like the characters and get there early to sit in the front (this always worked for DD when she wanted to be in the HSM pep rally).

World Showcase is full of fun opportunities. Teach your kids to say hello and thank you in several of the languages. The CMs get a big kick out of it and the kids feel proud.

Don't miss Miyuki (the candy lady) in Japan in Epcot. She is the only woman trained in this craft and it is really neat to watch.

On Tom Sawyer island, the cast members hide paint brushes. I think 5 total. If you find one, and give it to a cast member, they will give u a free fast pass to either splash mountain or thunder mountain. Some people say they give all day fast passes. Dont believe them, its just one pass for either of the two rides.
Thanx for the info!

We were there in October and often shared adult meals between the kids. They didn't differentiate then.

Tip 2.) This one will make you money and a lot of the lazy people here wont do it. If you are going for 10-days, get the 14-day pass. All over Orlando you will see signs saying that they buy and sell tickets. I wouldnt buy from them, but they do pay good money to buy from you. With our family five years ago, we had 2 days left over, so I went in. They bought my left over days, which were 2adult 2-days left and 2 child 2days left. they gave me $180.00. I was shocked, being i was just gonna toss them in the trash. The guy then told me that if i go to downtown disney and add days to my tickets, he would pay a lot more, but i didnt have the time for that. The next year i bought 14 days, used 10, then i went to downtown disney to added 3 days per ticket to the card. the price was 135.00 I went back to the booths and the guy gave me $600.00 for what now was a 7 day 2adult 2child tickets. Now every year i go, In total the disney tickets cost me 1100.00 bucks, but at the end of the trip, i get between 575-625.00 back at the end of the trip. So after all is said and done, i get my family of 4, a 10-day park hopper for only 500 bucks.

Tip 3.) Buy Resturant.com gift certificates when you go to Disney. On Ebay, you can buy a $100.00 certificate for 8 bucks and you can use them at a lot of places in Disney, including the House of Blues, and a bunch of restuarants in the Swan and Dolphin and other resorts. There are restrictions, for example. At the House of Blues, you can only use a 25 dollar certificate, if the purchase is 35 dollars or more. With a family of four, the purchase is always 35, meening you get a good meal in a good place and the cost after the certificate is 10 bucks. If you dont have the Disney dining plan, this is your best option to save a lot of money. You can make it through a 7 day trip with spending under $200 in meals.

that sounds great but don't they want your finger print now and or ID?

Heres another tip, but its kinda on the dishonest side.

Disney world finds thousands of sunglasses and cameras per day. Only 2% get reclaimed by their rightfull owner. The rest after a certain time, gets sold in a Disney Cast Member Lost and Found store. Disney World actually puts a price on it and resells these items to their own employees for a profit. As bad as it may sound. I admitt, towards the end of my vacation. I always come home with a new pair of sunglasses and a very nice camera. All you need to do is go into the lost and found and say you lost a black camera and a black pair of glasses. You will be shown a counter filled with them to choose from.

:rolleyes1 what if the family had just lost the camera that you decide to take that morning and haven't made it to that lost and found yet? the things they sell in their "store" that haven't been claimed is probably after a certain period of time like you said which would give someone ample opportunity to claim their stuff. Cough up $200 and buy your own camera and sunglasses.

We love the dining plus plan, so I'll do it every time. We love the sit down restaurants and look forward to them as part of our Disney experience! What I wanted to ask though, is: how do you sell the tickets if you stay on resort and aren't sent tickets. Last time we went, they were all on our KTTW card, so I wouldn't know what to do if I had extra b/c they'd be on my card. Is there a way to turn them into money if they are on the card?

The dining plan is use it or lose it. The good thing is that even though they say 3 meals/2 snacks per day, they don't care when you actually use the meals or snacks. They just populate your account with enough meal/snack credits to cover your stay.

I sent my concierge a question concerning the meal plan a few weeks ago. I am going to be going off site one of the days and I will end up having extra meals available. A friend of mine is coming to stay with me one night and I asked if I can use my meal plan to pay for his meals since I will have some unused ones. I was told that wouldn't be a problem as I can present my KTTW card and have them debit two meals. The concierge also said that if I do have a problem, I can just bring the reciept to them and they will credit the meal.

I *think* sneakymouser was given the boot.
Wondered what it took to get the axe on the Disboards. Guess I know now.

That's cool that you'll get to use them for your friend. My question to sneakymouser was actually meant to ask about how he talked about selling his park tickets. I would never have the time or energy to do it myself, but I wasn't sure how he could do something like that when all my tickets were on my card when I went. I've never purchased tickets other than as a package with a resort stay, so I was curious as to what he meant. I was also a little peeved at the way everyone was called lazy for not wanting to be dishonest. Thanx for the info though! I thought I had read somewhere that you couldn't use the credits for other people, so I didn't know they would allow it. I guess with counter service there's no way to differentiate. We sometimes would purchase one of our kids' meals on our card since it all evened out in the end.

Oh, and about what you said about if you had a problem they would credit it...An important tip in my opinion is to check any charges to your KTTW card periodically during your stay (this tip is more for newbies) and food credits used. My husband got a snack one day that cost no more than $3.00, and when he checked our printout it had been charged as a counter service. He went and talked to concierge and they credited the counter service back and charged it properly as a snack.

I'm surprised he lasted this long......:thumbsup2
True dat.

This isn't very exciting, but it was helpful for our last trip. Rather than wasting time doing breakfast at a cs or ts rest. I brought instant oatmeal, plastic spoons, and paper bowls. I heated up the water in the coffee maker. It saved lots of time, and it is a hearty meal that stays with you for a while. The kids could eat while we were getting ready.

We purchase 2 different photos of our family/kids on a ride from each trip. I frame them and hang them behind the bar in our basement. They are funny to look at while having a cocktail.

This is genius! I wish I'd read this years ago :thumbsup2

I was told by a Vacation Club member to go to the Safari Ride at Animal Kingdom at Rope Drop, b/c the animals are just being feed for the morning and are closer to the trail. This was so true, we got get pics.

Was Sneakymouser for real or what? I've seen people get seriously flamed for much less, but he/she didn't get much blowback at all.... Interesting. That comment about going to lost & found and claiming someone else's sunglasses & camera, I couldn't believe what I was reading.
To everyone else, thanks for all the great tips... I'm taking notes.

Here is my tip for a family on a tight budget. There are enticing things for sale everywhere you turn in Disney World. Money can flow like water if you're not careful. Here's what we do on each trip...

If our girls see something they want, we take a picture of it on Daddy's cell phone. On the last visit to that particular park, we look through the pictures at the end of the day and decide what item they want the most. It works tremendously well, and at the end of our trip, we've stuck to the budget to the penny, never use the credit card, and have the absolute time of our lives! Both girls get a few toys and trinkets that they still love and play with.

As a mom of 4, this sounds like a great idea!:thumbsup2
