Today started off with rain. Forecast was for it to clear out by 10, so we set plans to try Al Johnsons for breakfast. We arrived about 945 and requested a table for 5. The girl said 1240. I said 5 and she said, "Your return time is 12:40". We'll have to try that a different day. They open at 7, so it will be like rope drop to get breakfast.
We went up the hill to another breakfast place and were done by 11. The plan for the day was to go over to Washington Island. It is off the northern tip of the Peninsula and has some cute local shops and restaurants, a lavender farm and some nice beaches. They also have a Cherry Train Tour that takes you on a narrated trip around the island to see the sights. That was fun.
Ferry over to the island.
The island has a large Scandanavian heritage. There is a cool Skule church that was built to mimic an actual church in Iceland. Very reminiscent of the Norway/Frozen pavilion at Epcot.
Then we were off to the lavender farm. Very pretty, but if you aren't fond of lavender smell, this may not be the place for you.
The trip back to the main land was a little rough. We were stuck in the car as they parked us too close to the outside and we had a car tight on the other side. So we enjoyed the waves crashing over the bow and soaking the cars in front of us. We were the 4th row back, near the middle of the ferry. At least it wasn't salt water.
It was fun watching the GPS in the car as we headed across the water.
Tonight we are making tacos and nachos while we sit out and watch the Cubs/Cards game. Evenings have been cooling off fast. I'm not used to needing long pants and jackets in August.
