I have a suggestion to be added to the front page. I am currently planning my and my families trip for 2018. I haven't been to WDW for 17 years and stay at all star movies back in the day. The one piece of information I am missing for planning ADRs and such is the average travel time people have experienced. So, how long has it taken people with first hand experience to travel from BC to an Ohana reservation? How about if you were headed for dinner at Jiko? Maybe you had California Grill as part of your trip but did it on a rest day (no park) and couldnt take monorail from Epcot, how long was your travel? In fact, how long in average does it take for people to get to places like Disney Springs, Typhoon Lagoon, or Blizzard Beach from BC?
Thanks for your help!
I don't get over to the Transportation Board on the DIS. I know they used have a time estimator to get from Point A to Point B at Disney, not sure if they still do or if there are any threads that address your transportation questions.
What is the official Disney advisory now about travel time when you make a dining reservation- are they asking guests to plan an hour and a half or two hours for travel time using Disney transportation?
I'm game to add more useful info to the small transportation section I have on Page 1, Post 1 if people want to help and provide their guestimates or experience.
I would call it "YMMV"- Your Mileage May Vary
A lot of factors go into how much time it takes to get from Point A (Beach Club or Yacht Club) to Point B (Disney Springs, Water Park, Another Resort)- time of day, wait time for the bus or other mode of transportation. There are also alternate routes that guests can take. For example if you are traveling to one of the MK resorts, you can take the bus to MK then either take the monorail OR resort boat OR even walk to CR.
On my last trip, we had a dinner at the Poly at 6:30 pm. We started our journey by leaving the YC at 5 pm and took the bus to MK. We were going to take the boat to the Poly and waited about 10 minutes but didn't see a boat in sight, so we bailed to get on the monorail. Unfortunately, everyone was leaving the park at that time and the line for the monorail started on the ramp. I think it took 3 trains before we were loaded onto a packed transport. We kept watching the boat, and we finally saw one arrive just as we were boarding, so that would have been quicker than the resort monorail. Our trip ended up taking about 100 minutes.
If I am going to post average trip times, I would add 10 minutes for each leg you need to wait for transportation.
So if you were going to Jiko or to Boma at AKL, the estimated time would be 10 minute wait for the bus, transportation time to Animal Kingdom Park (25 min?), 10 minute wait for bus to AKL and then transportation time (5 min?), for a total of 50 minutes.
Poly: 10 minute wait for bus, 15-20 minutes to MK, walk to boat ramp/wait for transportation (15 min), ride to Poly (15) for a total of 1 hour.
I haven't been to a waterpark since 2010 or to Downtown Disney since 2013 and I know a lot has changed in the transportation to those places, so I have no idea what the current process or time involved to get there is.
Anyone wanna play the "How long to get there game?"
