Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Headed to Poly for the first time ever end of May. Can you walk to Magic Kingdom, or are boats/monorail the options? If so, which is better for rope drop/post fireworks?

Any other first timer tips? Much appreciated! So excited! 🌴🌴
The wait can be longer with a double stroller during holidays. If you fold the stroller you can probably get on the monorail in about 30 mins (took us 45 mins and we left 5 mins before fireworks were over). Standing uphill is exhausting. Once onboard it is nice to have AC and it’s pretty quick.

We are staying at the Poly for the first time in July. If we want to get to early entry at MK, how long should we plan to wait for the monorail?

I don't think it will affect discounts on standard cash resort rooms. PVB's conversion of half the cash longhouses cut the high discounts on those rooms since there are now less in inventory. Same with Wilderness Lodge cash rooms after the CCV DVC conversion. Grand Floridian still has a decent amount of cash inventory highly discounted which is why some think another outer building could be converted to DVC.

I bet the "two-bedroom penthouse villa" of the Island Tower is excluded from all discounts like expensive DVC options such as grand villas, bungalows, and cabins. The duo studios through regular two-bedroom villas will probably be heavily discounted in the early stages (like RIV) to sell the cash inventory. Once all the units are all declared into the PVB condo association and points are sold I bet the discounts mostly dry up and only select rooms are available due to breakage at a moderate discount.

Man if they do another crazy Disney Visa discount for this the way they did for Riviera when it opened I might just stay in that "boring un Disney" tower lol. I'm still salty I couldn't get off work to take advantage of that one.

I am planning on staying at Poly for the first time next August. When the UK offers for 2025 went live I booked 8 nights at POR, then immediately tried to book 5 nights at Poly but only club level was available. I wondered if, because we currently get free DDP with the booking, they had removed the standard rooms. It doesn't make any sense for my booking as the offer isn't available for split stays anyway but it got me wondering.

Could I ask one of our fellow Disboarders to check on a US site if standard rooms are available to non-UK guests, just out of interest? My dates are 21st to 26th Aug 2025 for 2 people. TIA

(I will be renting DVC points if no standard rooms are released.)

Yes there are Resort View rooms available on the USA site for your dates. The Standard rooms and other room categories have been merged. There are now only 3; Resort view, Water view and TPV.

Disney does not recognize split stays. It is just 2 resort reservations. Will you have the 14 day tickets.

Yes my 14 day tickets are linked to the first booking, I just want to book room only at Polynesian. It's my nephew's first choice, hence why I am holding out for either reaort view rooms to be made available for cash bookings or DVC points at 11 month window. Fingers crossed 🤞

Could you just book through the US site? Or can't you access that from the UK? From Australia, I can book through either site.

Unfortunately I can only access the UK site, so the only rooms I can book at the moment are club level and above. We would not make use of any of the extras that come with club level.

I had a problem with a pending payment with Disney (long story) and whilst on the phone the cast member asked me if I had got what I wanted and when I explained about Poly, she suggested I check back regularly 'as Disney release rooms sporadically through the year'. Now I know the rooms are available I am hopeful I will be able to book, but in September I will request 5 nights via DVC points rental if not secured by then.

How much of the fireworks can you see from the Poly? I have never stayed there before and hubs is offering for me to stay there for my birthday. Is there a place where they pipe the music in too?

You get probably the best view from outside the park. It's centered and you get all of the big perimeter bursts that are missed from inside the park. Really the only thing you don't see are the projections. Music is piped in on the beach.

The problem is the beach is often packed. I actually prefer watching from where the bungalows are, even though they block some of the view it doesn't matter if you stand far enough back (well, for me--I'm tall), plus it's always empty and you can still hear the music over there.

Does anyone know what happened at the Hawaii building this afternoon? There’s currently about a dozen LBVCC workers and several Cast Members wearing suit and tie uniform, all hovering over the same spot. And now there’s large trucks rolling through property on the pedestrian walkways.

This is why I think the Island Tower will have some great views at that angle and height! I would want to be on that balcony for the 4th of July.

I agree with kylenne however you can get a good view from ohana if you ask..and they pipe in the music. From my last trip...

My last viewing of Wishes was from a table up against the window at 'Ohana :cloud9:

Any whisperings on when we might find out more about the Island Tower? Renderings, info, etc?

Bookings open up in a couple of weeks and we're considering staying there in Jan, but would like some more info first! Is it nuts to be thinking about booking there so early on?

They’re be really stupid not to have a signature restaurant or even a lounge up there with options for fireworks viewing. It would be leaving money on the table. I just hope it’s Cali Grill style and not Top of the World style.

I agree. But my worry is that the way the construction photos look so far, there doesn't seem to be a rooftop restaurant there. There seems to be a Grand Villa at the top. There is a long line of windows on the top floor, but it doesn't look long enough to be a restaurant. Plus, on either side of those windows, are single sliding glass door balconies (they look exactly the same as the balcony rooms in floors below). Unless there are going to be rooms right next to the restaurant?

IMO, the ones that want a fancy restaurant are not the ones paying the dues. Most owners would not want that kind of overhead cost in dues for a restaurant that will be clogged up with non-due-paying guests. Dues are the long term cost of DVC and even more important than the original point cost investment because it lasts the full term of the contract.
I’m not suggesting that the main Poly doesn’t need another good restaurant but I’m sure the due-payers of the tower would be happy with good counter service if they think about the impact to dues.
