A dedicated freezer section and a mini fridge in the deluxe villas!! We didn’t see this when we stayed Dec 2022.

Water Leak Closes Gift Shop & Restaurant at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

An overnight leak has closed a gift shop and restaurant at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort today. The leak appears to have originated at the Kona Cafe, and affected the Boutiki gift shop below it. Both locations are closed this morning, and guests with impacted dining reservations are being offered a meal at 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort or Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

It’s currently unknown how long both locations will be closed, but there was significant damage to merchandise at Boutiki. Fans are in place at Kona Cafe to dry out the area, and Cast Members are at the restaurant entrance to assist guests. Disney World has not responded to a request for comment.

Everyone said they missed the lobby waterfall, be careful what you wish for. 😭

I've heard you can call the " front desk " and they would change it. Like Happy Birthday or something.
I don't think CMs actually change the name on the reservation to a nickname or something like that, but if you call the Disney Reservation Center and state you are celebrating a CM will note who is celebrating on the reservation and that should display on the TV.

You can also "modify" the reservation on your own in MDE and add a celebration and select the guest celebrating from the drop down menu. I do not believe this works for DVC reservations, TA managed reservations, bouncebacks, etc. You would need to contact Member Services for DVC, your TA, or call Disney Reservation Center for bouncebacks.

We will be on the dining plan. Lot of disappointed guests I’m sure. Hopefully onsite guests can somehow get food.
When is your visit? They should have CMs outside Kona Cafe and 'Ohana to inform guests of alternatives. CC is going to be crazy busy.

We just got back from a 5 night stay at the Polynesian. We loved our lake view studio, the 2 bathrooms came in handy but I sure missed having a king sized bed forgot studios have 1 queen. Best front desk experience, no long lines for check in, etc.
O’hana’s was excellent, I had my traditional Lapu Lapu, and I love those noodles yum!
Kona, won’t go again for a while, Tonga Toast was tasteless and tough like microwaved to long? Hostess shoved us between too close tables, so awkward, while several nice tables stayed empty.
Monorail ran smoothly, loved being near the TTC and we couldn’t see or hear the new DVC construction.
Overall a wonderful trip! Polynesian is my favorite, although expensive, the service, atmosphere and the monorail make it worth it to me.

BlogMickey posted yesterday that affected locations were supposed to be open by dinner. FWIW

BouTiki Reopens With Water Damage After Major Leak at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Kona Cafe seemed to be the source of the leak, with a small waterfall pouring through the floor/ceiling into the store below. The leak has been fixed although the area is not quite clear of water. Click link for video.

BREAKING: Official Name, Opening Window, and New Concept Art for DVC Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Disney has announced the official name of the new Disney Vacation Club tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, as well as an opening window and other important dates. They also released new concept art.

Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows
Logo for Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows at the Disney Vacation Club, featuring stylized text and tribal design elements in earth tones, representing the iconic Polynesian DVC tower.
The tower is the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. Disney says it will “take you on a storytelling journey that brings to life the spirit of Polynesia.”

Island Tower is projected to open in December 2024. It is a 10-store tower overlooking the Seven Seas Lagoon. It will “celebrate the natural world” and “the magic of Disney.” Its in walking distance to the Disney Monorail.

Luxurious resort with a multi-story building and balconies illuminated at dusk, surrounded by palm trees, a pool, and a tranquil lake.
The original concept designs for Disney’s Polynesian Resort featured a prominent tower. Island Tower will complete that vision “while embracing the rich culture from the Polynesian Islands.” The exterior features designs created just for the tower, including a Manta Ray symbolizing freedom, protection, and grace.

The Manta Ray is also revered as a guardian of the family, like Gramma Tala in “Moana.” Characters of “Moana” will be subtly featured in artwork throughout the resort, including in the lobby.

Inside the lobby, you will be greeted by an art panel installation on the ceiling inspired by several Polynesian Islands, showcasing wildlife native to each locale. Each animal holds a strong connection to the islands and symbolizes values important to Polynesians.

Walt Disney Imagineering collaborated with over a dozen artists from around the world to create unique artworks that will be displayed throughout the resort. From preserved moss walls to sculptures made from recycled fishing nets, each piece will be inspired by the spirit of conservation and embody the rich cultures of Polynesia.

Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will feature a variety of room types that will sleep from two to nine guests, such as duo studios, spacious one- and two-bedroom villas and brand-new two-bedroom penthouse villas. Many rooms will feature spectacular views.

In the meantime, here are some important dates to keep in mind:

  • June 4: Disney Vacation Club members can make early rental reservations by contacting Member Services at (800) 800-9800. Disney Vacation Club members will be able to make points-based reservations at a later date.
