Daily room checks

Rather than re-type my horrendous experience with security room checks and alleged every-other-day housekeeping, I'll just post my small trip report here.

I just read your link. I understand that could be called a horrendous experience with housekeeping. But what was wrong with the security room check? I didn’t see anything in there about that other than you reported the no housekeeping to that CM. And he attempted to get your complaint resolved by calling a supervisor. That doesn’t seem like a horrendous experience with a room check. Unless I missed something.

The security room check should be holistic in my mind. The security person took ownership and guaranteed the room would be adequately "taken care of" upon my return. In my opinion, he/she should have done the final inspection of the room that satisfies its security (and his/her supervisor should have mandated an all-clear indication). He/she should have been the last stopgap measure if there were adequate concerns about me and my room's safety since it was postured that way.

I’ve been in the room for many security checks. I’ve never had anyone do any of those things.
That’s actually exactly what they used to do all the time when we were in the room during security checks. We used to find the light switch check and taps being turned on/off quite funny.

But that was pre-Covid. Maybe they’re not as hands with their checks these days.

Respectfully disagree. I don’t think it is that CMs job to follow around after housekeeping & make sure they have completed their work. That’s the housekeeping supervisor’s job. The room not being cleaned does not relate to the security of the guest it room.

They know when you come back to the room. I have dogs and leave the “I have dogs” sign on the door, so they won’t enter when I am not there. Without fail, when I come back to take them for their mid-day walk, someone appears within 10-15 minutes, usually just as I have returned from walking them. I have to put them back on their leashes and drag them out of the room again while some rando comes in to touch every surface in the room by flicking switches, turning faucets on and off, and jiggling door handles because “safety.” It was one of many things that has us visiting Universal over Disney these days.
Why are you leaving dogs in the room when you aren't there?

Interesting that you never mentioned this ownership of cleaning of your room and it was never mentioned in your review thread. Once the manager was in your room the "security" person continued their rooms checks.

Disney resorts are private property. They are entitled to set their own rules about things like security. What exactly they are looking for is NOT something they are going to publicly discuss for reasons that should be obvious. One way to defeat any sort of security measure is know the details of what they are doing. Disney probably has a number of safety protocols being a high profile destination, some that are more obvious than others.

Last time we were at Disney we were mostly away from our room during the day at one of the parks. Our room was made up while we were out. If someone from security also visited our room while we were gone we never knew and didn't really care. When in the room, it makes sense at ANY hotel to lock the inside latch so someone from the staff can't walk in unannounced. We have done that for YEARS long before any of the current security discussions.

So the security guard/CM should have zero responsibility ensuring my room is secure given this situation? While there probably is no direct role-crossover, if there is one place I feel it should have some leeway to overlap is between security and housekeeping. I'd imagine if my room was adequately secured upon my return and the security guard/CM followed-up with me regarding service, then my MDE would have immediately sent a Castmember Compliment to him. Isn't that part of the charter of service at a WDW resort? WDW theme park?

A CMs role doesn't have to always stay 100% compartmentalized (it would be a worse experience if it was). I'd hate to hear a CM tell me, "that's not my job". In fact, we gave out two (2) CM Compliments this past trip to an order taker who, although not her job, took upon herself to go outside her core responsibility to take care of us. She also ended up with a cash tip even though she was not in a tipping role.

I actually welcome the daily room check. I often took the kids to Disney on my own when they were little, because I thought I was an invincible person. One night I was suddenly hit with vertigo after the kids had gone to bed. It was so disorienting, I couldn't make a call to my husband or my Floridian relatives. As I lay there spinning, my one comforting thought was that housekeeping would find my body in the morning and notify my husband to retrieve the children.

Obviously, I didn't die and the vertigo subsided within an hour. I also stopped traveling alone with the children until they were old enough to use cell phones.

My experience was post-Covid. My experiences with the checks, including the person touching the light switches and faucets, were at AoA December 2021 and Port Orleans October 2022. Last year we skipped Disney and just stayed at Universal.

What situation? The person did their job & performed the security room check. Then they did more & attempted to resolve a complaint you had. Something happened after they left & they are responsible for that?? So the security check person was supposed to somehow know that housekeeping would not leave your room secure? Or do you think they should be following every housekeeper around to make sure each room door is closed & locked after the housekeeper leaves?? IMO, if the room is cleaned or not has nothing to do with security. I personally do not hold the security personnel responsible for something that happens after they have completed their job & left. If a housekeeper committed an error, that’s their responsibility, not someone else’s. Obviously we won’t agree on this issue.

They are checking for human trafficking with these checks, no matter what they call them. WDW would be a good place to hide kids like that, according to what I read about this and Disney. I suspect they are still doing these checks for this reason.
I agree. I don’t remember all the details. But years ago there was a child pornography video obtained by law enforcement that was found to have been filmed in a WDW resort, based on the room decor. I remember the news reports trying to identify the child in the video.
