Building/Room Requests?

What strategies have you used to get the particular building/floor/room you want at a particular DVC resort? Can you make the request when you book the reservation, or do you contact the DVC resort a few days before you arrive?

Also, how does one research the various buildings/rooms? The Unofficial Guide has some recommendations. Anywhere else?

You are never guaranteed a certain building/floor/room, they take your request but no guarantees. They'll do their best to give you your requests, but it's not set in stone. ADVICE: arrive as early in the day as possible, and ask for that certain building/room/floor and ask if anyone is checking out of your requested area that day....then tell them you are willing to wait for the room of your choice to be ready....still no guarantees.

Allearsnet.com has maps of all of the resorts...just not room numbers. The maps on that site are exactly the maps you will be given on check in.

Don't get your heart set on any one particular room, either.

Keep your requests general and few.

Remember that the location of your room is only a small part of your vaction. There are many people who have felt that their "whole vacation was ruined" because they didn't get their requests.

:rolleyes1

My favorite was the DVC owner who was escorted from OKW after threatening the CMs because he was NOT getting the villa he "reserved" (The concept of request apparently missed this jerk) When he threatened to "beat the living XYZ" out of the CM if he didn't give him HIS room, security was called. He left with them and his wife was told by the manager that DVC would be in touch with them... They didn't stay there that night....

My theory is that I have checked... all of the villas are at Disney and in the resort I booked.....

"REQUESTS" (and that is all they are) can be made at the time the reservation is made. We are told by DVC NOT to call the resort and request anything beyond that. Our request used to be "non-smoking for medical reasons", but now with the whole resort smoke free, we will not be making requests unless we need an accessible room for any reason. There certainly are buildings and units that we have preferred and some that have not been as special, but we've never had anything so bad that it would ruin a vacation!! Heck, they are all great DVC villas, and all in WDW, so what more can I want?
