hi all. i would like to plan to go to disney in the summer of 2003. i actually prefer this time.
ok here are the details. it will be me and DS who will be 7 at the time of travel. i would like to stay onsite at the all stars. sports to be exact. i want to stay for about 10 FULL days. not including travel days. and i would like to fly. i am in new york, about a 100 miles out of the city. i can got to NYC, new jersey, syracuse, or albany to fly out. so my question is~how much would you budget? i am just now starting to save. and would like to know about how much to set aside each week. thank you all!!

If you are very specific abouts "Sports" and want to do Disney at least 7 of the 10 days, here is what I would do.......Purchase an annual pass for you and DS...this will allow you free parking each day, get you into the parks on unlimited basis for 10 days and give you the freedom to just do a couple of hours at Disney and not worry about using a "whole day pass"...the annual pass will not be activated until you go the first day.....right now AP passholders are getting discounts as low as 49 to 69 a nite at Sports........APasses would cost you about 600 now...I would also join Disney club for 29 dollars...this will give you 5 percent off on APs and some nice little discounts at Disney Marketplace.....So you are looking at 600 for Disney......If you want to do other theme parks figure about 44 to 50 a day for admission to sea World or Universal.....Once you get to Orlando you will see hundreds of discount booklet for a lot of things including food.....Food is something that is hard to judge...I hear there are some fast food type meals at Sports....if you have a car you can drive to many name buffets and fast food....If you want to have some fun I would budget at least one or two character meals at Disney.....great pictures and great fun budget about 18 -20 dollars per meal....will you rent a car...this will be about 170 to 210 a week depending on the deal.....I would suggest going to Deb's site at wdwig.com for lots of good advice......my main advice is consider the annual pass if you want 7 days at Disney....you can go direct to Disney or a travel agent for a "package", but you might find that "packages" are more expensive than doing it yourself.....but congratulations on planning ahead..do your homework and your research and you will be able get yourself a deal...also look at Deb's site about how and what snacks to pack for the parks so you son't spend a lot of money on stuff in the parks....good luck...Ted

Worm 761,

where are you located? I am in Maybrook, so we may be neighbors. We decided to drive to WDW last October, but when I was looking into flying I found that Southwest out of Albany had the best prices.

hi supermom, i am in kingston. where about is maybrook?? i am not really from here, i moved to new york 2 yrs ago. but these mountains are beautiful!!

i have actually been to disney. i am just dying to go back. we went last july, stayed at the sports for 7 nights, flew out of jersey, and took mears. we had 5 day hoppers. next time i want to do more!! so i want to stay longer. i will NOT rent a car. i get lost waaaay to easily to even dream about driving there. if my boyfriend were to come with us and do all the driving then maybe. but i am on vacation and do not need the stress of being lost.

tednvon...thank you for all of you advice. i joined the disney club last sunday using the code that expires tomorrow. already have the entertainment book, gotta support the arts!!!

Good start......really consider the Annual Pass....what we really like about it is the freedom to head over to epcot at 7 PM...grab dinner, see the parade, and incredible Illuminations without worrying that we "used up a day"..........good luck..keep us posted if can offer any more ideas...Ted

Getting an annual Pass is great, the only problem with them is then you want to keep going back, you figure it will be cheap because the tickets are paid for. I bought on in May of 1999 and between then and May of 2000 we spent 6 weeks there. It was a great year but now it is hard for me to rationalize another trip. Of course I am still managing to plan a trip for this May. You can always have an excuse.
