Best day of the week in crowded times?

We'll be in San Diego for a week in late July or early August. We've always been to DL in off season, but are giving some thought to a day trip. Two questions -- I'm pretty used to low to moderate crowds. How bad is it going to be? And, assuming I can go any day of the week, are there any days of the week that tend to be better than others during the summer? My instinct says Tuesdays or Wednesdays, but I'm just guessing.

Tuesdays & Wednesdays are better than Mondays. But since the 50th has been going all days have been busy.
