Bad night at resort

This past weekend my wife and I were volunteering for the special Olympics at the Wide World of Sports for my wife's school. For doing so we were put up at the All Star sports resort for two nights. We had never stayed at any of the All star resorts before and thought this would be a neat experience. It was an experience alright. The resort itself looked fine and had a good atmosphere by the pool. It had a large eatery with plenty of options. The room however was somewhat poor quality. The beds were hard and the pillows were harder. The towels were thin and the sink was clogged up. My wife and I came to the conclusion that DVC resorts have spoiled us very much. Mind you we weren't expecting it to be DVC but we're surprised how less tolerant we were of it. The worst part was that next door was a room full of teenagers! They were up to past 2a.m. They were obnoxiously loud and the only thing separating us and them was the thin wall and a door that you can see the light through and therefore you can hear everything; profanity and all. Then they started smoking which bled in to our room. I called the front desk and informed them and they told me the would send security which never arrived. These boys were part of some sports team. Oh and the chaperones for the team sat right out side my door talking WAY loud. I went out there and asked them to tone it down and they politely moved down the way. However they were still loud and were up to 4 a.m. The next day when you entered our room you would have thought that we were the ones smoking, it was that bad. My wife did inform the chaperones of the smoking and how loud the boys were and they sorted out the guilty parties. But man what a bad experience. We ended up leaving the next day skipping on our last night there, we were glad to go home instead.

Disney's value resorts are a value for a reason. The deluxe resorts have thicker walls, better furnishings and amenities.

Sorry that you had a bad experience.

That's a disadvantage of a value or moderate. I stayed at CBR once and a group of adults were sitting outside their rooms smoking and talking loud late. I assume their kids were sleeping inside the rooms.

That experience is not exclusive to the Value and Moderate resorts. We have had the same experience with guests on their DVC and Deluxe resort balconies late at night.

I try to be tolerant of people celebrating during their vacations but I sometimes wonder where my tolerance should end and their respect for others should begin. The smoking issue is a clear violation and I would have had zero tolerance. How sad that Disney did nothing about this since it is a very real health issue for some people. Sorry this happened OP. I do think the odds are greater in value resorts, partly because of cheaper construction and partly because the large tour groups seem to congregate at Value Resorts. I guess we can be glad that as DVC members we have a slightly better chance of things like this not happening.

I love how some try to turn this into a resort class problem. These issues can and do happen across all resorts.

I would have asked the front desk to move my room.

Before we joined DVC we had stayed at Poly and WL. Then one summer I wanted to take my 3 boys down to WDW for 4 nights without my DH after our nieces wedding in the DC area. We had made the wedding weekend a mini Vacation, so we did want to spend a lot of money on rooms for just the boys and me.

So, that is how I winded up at All Star Sports. I believe it was like $79 per night in August 2008. The beds were so small, my sons took turns sleeping on the floor. We made a bed from the bedspreads and put a top sheet over it. A tropical storm was passing by and we were on the ground floor .....I kept thinking the room was going to flood. And yes the towels were thin and small.

After that stay ....I said never again...and two years later we joined DVC.

The theming is cute and if you are on a budget it a good way to stay on property. Or if you are two young adults and take a bed each, but it just too small for a family of 3 or 4 to stay in.:upsidedow

Yes, they happen at all resorts, but I bet you they occur more often at Value Resorts, than at Deluxe. I don't have stats to support this, as its only an assumption. I bet they have the stats/incident reports hidden deep in the bowels of WDW somewhere.
If this occurs again to you, physically walk to the front desk, ask for a manager, and demand a room change. I don't know if they do incident reports, but if they do them, I'd request a copy of it.

I have stayed at POP MANY times. Never any problems.

2 times at a DVC resort I had issues. Broken sink, light switch not working, Some other guest bags in OUR room on day 3 of our trip after parks closed & guest speeding around parking yelling at other guest (seemed like a drunk young punk, note I'm only 31).

I will not say those problems have anything to do with DVC or the resort. I just right it off as bad timing. As I said NEVER a single issue "for me" at POP.

I'm only basing this off of one visit to be fair. However, there where a lot more people smoking at the POP than I ever have seen in a DVC resort. But anything can happen anywhere. The only reason why I am sensitive to people smoking is that my son has asthma and smoking has set in an attach before. When I have had a problem in a DVC resort it has been fixed and in a decent amount of time. The fact that security never came is what bugs me the most of what happened the other night. I'm simply not use with that from Disney.

I here ya. I'm also sensitive to people smoking because its disgusting. You should have call the front desk again when your concerns were not addressed. Don't let "well it's a value resort" prevent you from having a good time.

We are quite spoiled already by DVC. We had two bad experiences at POP. The second stay was a comp stay from the bad first experience, and it was just as bad. That stay is the one we bought into DVC. That really worked in Disney's favor huh?

I don't think the implication was that it was a class problem. The walls are very thin at the values and not insulated well, as independently reviewed by the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. If they were staying at a deluxe, it is likely the sound would not have carried as much.

Yeah, try having a booking at Saratoga.....and it NOT being Saratoga Springs! Yikes!

At BWV four twenty-something year old ladies checked in to the studio portion of our villa. They were yelling from the balcony down to the pool area. Also throwing things back and forth. We didn't say anything at first, the pool party was happening. Later they continued to yell down and started cursing at each other, dropping "F" bombs. DH went down to the front desk to complain. Apparently he was not the first to complain. He was told by management the girls were put on notice that any more complaints and the would be escorted off property. Things did settle down and they were gone the next day.

And that's the way it should be!:thumbsup2

We ended up having martinis with the head of security for the BWI/BWV one evening....apparently, the resorts that have a wedding clientele (like the BWI) are the worst. LOTS of drunk groomsmen and bridesmaids.

The values get a lot of rowdy teens on trips (sports, school, whatever) - but rowdy teens don't really want to get caught drinking, and when they are, you can do something about it. The groomsmen and bridesmaids sometimes drink until punches start getting thrown.

Nothing about class as it is every resort.
We took my then 6 YO son to one of the all stars the lobby sliding doors opened and his first comment was there is no slide. Spoiled by DVC... I told him he would be staying at the All Stars one day when we stop paying for him and be lucky to be on Disney property at all...
I stayed there once when they first opened and like others have said it is noisier but likely due to being a lot more people so you have a higher amount of people who do not care... percentage may be the same by numbers would be higher. With that said I have seen my share of people being demanding to CM's at Deluxe and DVC as some think because they are staying at ..... they are entitled to more.

Don't think this was about "class." But not many sports teams can afford to send a gaggle of teens to DVC. The values and mods host sports teams. In addition, quality of the room is lower (ie thin walls, light under dividing door). Of course problems can happen at any resort but not having balconies and having common outdoor hallways, invite congregating of chaperones escaping said gaggle of teens.
