Are cut flowers an appropriate "thank you" for a male principal?

I want to thank some of the teachers & the principal at my boys' new school for going the extra mile for my guys. I was thinking along the lines of a short note & some cut flowers from our yard. Do you think the cut flowers would be appropriate for the male principal?

For my son's male teacher last year I got a manly looking tin (I think it had ducks on it or something like that) and made tollhouse cookies to fill it with. If you don't have time to bake, you could fill it w/ candy.
