You could or you can take the same documents you had to get for the passport and go on and get PreCheck if you want. PreCheck won't take different ones. Just depends on which way you want to do it really.
PreCheck usually goes really fast. Majority of folks get their KTN within about 5 days of completing their appointment. How long it takes to get an appointment varies greatly. Here it's same day. Other places can be a week or more
That is great information. One last question is the 5 years starting the day you get approved? I am curious if I am not using it until October if that means I should wait until closer.
