Loose coins?

we rolled ours. I was shocked how much we had - over $800 in quarters, dimes and nickels. Didn't bother with the pennies. We had approximately 1/3 of a 5-gallon sparkletts bottle filled. There's still about 2 inches of the bottle filled with pennies, so the rest was quarters, dimes and nickels. I used this money to buy our 5 day hoppers (had to add just a little to it).

"... a dime that was worth over 4 dollars ..."

U.S. dimes, quarters, and halves made before 1965 are worth a lot more than face value. In a stack, one of those will usually stand out by not having a gold or bronze tinged edge.

I used to work in the credit/cash control office of a major department store and the gal who worked the morning shift (meaning she was responsible for counting all cash that came through the store the day before) was always switching out silver certificates, older coins, etc. No idea how much extra money she made doing it, I'm guessing some, but probably not a substantial amount. She got pretty good at recognizing money that was worth more than face value and got a kick out of doing it though.

We had a coin machine and would roll for employees and occasionally for customers if they asked nicely and we weren't already swamped with work.

I just cashed in $70 worth of coins. I took it to my credit union coin machine and its $0 cost. Then I took it on our vacation to to a casino. We got free rooms for 3 nights. We used our food gift cards we received as gifts for lunch and dinner. All we do is relax, did some shopping and a movie. Tried keeping this vacation very budget. We came back with about $50 from the $70-lol! All our coins we cash throught free coin machine and use it on our vacations as extra money, food money etc

I went to a mostly cash only bill pay system specifically for the change. I have a jar for random change and a Minnie Mouse bank for gold dollar coins (I can get them at work and usually get $5 a week worth) for my daughter's spending money.

I'm about 2 months we have about $40 saved up already. Our trip isn't until October, so we should have a good bit by then.

Most of my quarters and dimes go to my morning coffee. So yes I pay for them that way but money is money right.. :P
Although I have a ton of other coins in a coin jar, once I collect enough of those I'll probably cash them all in!

When my kids were younger, we would get wrappers and roll them - build those math skills. As they're older now, all of us put our coins in "The Disney Box" to save for vacation fun money and then turn it in once a year at our credit union's coin counter. It's called the Disney box whether we are planning to go to Disney or some other vacation that year.

We always have a coin jar going for our "vacation fund". We cash it out for each vacation about twice a year and usually have $300-$400. We use it for any extras. Luckily my bank still has a coin counter that we can use for free.

My credit union has a coin counting machine. We used it to cash in over $800 in loose change which we used to partially fund a Disney trip. It's quick and easy. The hard part was lugging 50+ pounds of change inside.
