TOO MANY ADS!

I haven't gotten an adblocker to work on my Android tablet or phone. Supposedly using Firefox will help on those (Ad block plus for Chrome works fine on my PCs), just have made the leap yet.

Seems it's time for my quarterly post to be RE-posted.

This topic comes up like every several weeks. And over and over many of us keep saying to download AdBlock Plus. It's a browser add-on.

Maybe some of you don't believe it works so you don't download it? :confused3

This is what the top of my DISboards page looks like. I have NO banner, no ads:

There are no more random ads in between posts.

This is what the bottom looks like:

I was able to figure out how to personalize & configure AdBlock Plus on my computer to block even MORE stuff on a page. :cheer2: I have been able to get rid of ads on the DIS completely and even the section of Disney Headlines on the bottom of the page. Essentially the extra 3 inches of stuff that shows up at the bottom of every page. The more stuff that is blocked, the faster a page loads.

To configure and personalize:
Once AdBlock Plus is installed, there will be a little red icon in the toolbar (address bar) at the top of the browser page. Click on that. A pop-up box for AdBlock Plus shows up. Scroll down and click on the blue box saying "Block element." Then use your cursor (mouse) to scroll around the page. You will see sections of stuff turning pink. (Sometimes it's huge sections and sometimes you can refine it further to just exclude a little section within the bigger section. Click on the pink area you want blocked. (You can later undo it if you want it back.) Repeat for every section/item you want blocked. :thumbsup2

Sometimes you have to click on the same item and block it a second time before it disappears, as maybe there is an extra code or something that needs to get blocked. For the DIS ads at the bottom of the page, I had to click on each ad box separately, and possibly the larger section too, to finally remove them all.

I did this for YouTube too. There are usually suggestions for other videos to watch that appear near the end while watching a video. Those boxes often block the view of what's going on in the video. I blocked each suggestion box and now, they only appear as an outline of a clear box, to show there was something there and I can watch the whole video unobstructed.

If you are reading the DIS from your phone and from Firefox on the phone, download uBlock Origin. Does basically the same thing.

@Dan Murphy you want to back me up on how well they work?

I only access this site using my PC and have some type of adblocker that works on ALL internet sites. Works great and have never had any issues. Think it is something everyone should install on their PC.

I never use my phone to surf the internet since the formatting of many websites gets all jumbled when trying to view it. Wordwrap gets messed up and it is nearly impossible to click on the various buttons displayed.

I use it on my computer, but it's not available on Chrome on my phone. SO MANY ads when browsing on my phone.

You can have more than one browser on your phone. I have Firefox and Chrome. I rarely use Chrome though.

Just as we have dedicated apps on our phones which only do ONE thing, you can download Firefox, add on the uBlock Origin add-on and just use it as your dedicated DIS browser and never see ads again.

All true, @Imzadi. I used AdBlocker for years, no ads on PC. It WAS horrible on my phone though, but your suggestion for that worked perfectly, 100%!

@Moliphino, follow @Imzadi's Firefox suggestion. Works great. I have Firefox on my phone, it's like an app to me. I use it only for the dis. All other Internet is on Chrome, ads not an issue.

Running adblocker and adblocker+ on Safari in my iPad and it works great. Run both on Chrome and Edge on my laptop as well. I don’t run any on my phone and on those rare occasions I look at the DIS, the disruption from ads is shocking!
