I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

Looking to buy an Apple watch and hoping you all have some information and advice.

First: are there any Chase cards that have PYB (or something similar?) for Apple purchases? I seem to recall that there was some such thing a while ago but maybe it was a time-limited offer.

Second: Assuming I can't use UR points in a way that makes sense, are there any cards that would be especially advantageous to use for an Apple purchase?

Third: Buy from Apple directly or some place like Best Buy?

Finally: If you have an Apple watch, how do you like it? The purchase is for a family member who wants to use it for health tracking things.

Chase occasionally runs a promotion to redeem URs for apple products at 1.25x or 1.5x on the sapphire cards, but only a couple times a year.

Where you buy might depend on the level of customization required - if your family member wants a specific watch/strap combo that is non-standard then you need to buy from Apple. If they would be happy with one of the standard watches, then I'd suggest looking at Costco.

Bear in mind the Apple Watch 9 should be announced in September which should lead to some deals on the 8. Target just cleared out their 7s a couple weeks ago, but maybe some deals around on that somewhere.

I'm quoting myself because I wanted to post the resolution from someone hacking my SW account. While we were on vacation, I received the following response from SW:

I got my points back right away, and was able to book the flight I needed. I was so grateful to get the points back, but it was definitely scary and while I'm grateful that SW reinstated them, it didn't make me feel great that if anything happened again that they would do the same. It especially upsets me because I literally let them know right after it happened, so I feel like that was plenty of time for them to reverse the transaction. So, happy ending but lesson learned, I will keep a very close eye on my account and be very careful with my passwords!
So glad you got your points back party:

Just picked up the IHG Biz. I got the 'working on it - we'll let you know in 7 to 10 days'.

It immediately popped to the Chase sign in page where my new card was waiting.

I was trying to wait until end of July but had fomo that the offer would disappear.

YAY me!!!

I also have the $49 card so now I can do my drive down and back to Disney for $148 (cost of two annual fees) using both free nights, or $74 each way. It saves me roughly half the room cost or more. Marriott picks up my other free nights on the road, as I make this trip 2-4 times a year.

Meanwhile I now get the 4th night free option, which I may be able to use by next summer with my points haul. I've had that option in the past - not sure how or if it was deleted as an option on my $49 card.

Now I'm wondering how long Doc's Hilton card offer will last...looked it up - until July 19. That works.

I'm slightly confused about the Hilton card FNC's - which card gives it yearly or do any? I won't be spending 20K a year to get one. I could read all this but don't have time right now.
Ok, FOMO got the best of me and I saw on DoC that today was the last day so I went for it too. After applying, the on-screen message said "It looks like this isn't working right now. Please try again later. Thanks for your patience." So I logged into my Chase account, and tada there it was!

Not sure how I'm going to use the points yet. I have all these points, and a P2 who doesn't want to take time off from work. One of those "permissive time off" (giant misnomer if ever there was one) workplaces; that just means they don't have to pay out vacation time if he leaves or is let go.

Okay anyone know how to get your claim processed w/ Chase? They have asked me for the same documents about 7 times now! I keep calling and they acknowledge that I have all the documents submitted and don't know why the claim won't process. Then 2 days later I get another letter saying I need to upload the same stuff!

Is there another number I can call to get this processed? This is for the trip cancellation on my son's DC trip! This newest letter wants a something stating the relationship, I've uploaded 3 letters showing it's my son. It wants the billing statements, which I've uploaded and the cancellation email from the company, which I've uploaded! I swear they do this just so you'll give up! This has been going on since May! I've called about 5 times now too to make sure I'm doing this right.

I do think they want you to give up. Chase uses an insurance company I believe and they are AWFUL. Only had 1 claim with them: it took 3 months and several phone calls and e-mails to keep it moving.
I guess I got lucky when made a claim after the Christmas SW meltdown. I did have to resubmit a couple of things and spoke to them at least once. However, I had my payment within a couple of weeks. Good luck!

I've used SquareMouth which is very similar to Insure My Trip in that it is a site where you can compare different policies and companies. I can filter by certain features (pre-existing conditions, cancel for any reason, etc.) to narrow down the choices. I made my first claim ever this week so I should know the results of that process within a couple of weeks. I typically don't bother with insurance for domestic travel.
Just wanted to share how this turned out. There was no problem getting my 75% of kiddo's prepaid nonrefundable fare with the Cancel For Any Reason policy. I also tried to make a claim for being isolated to the cruise cabin and asking for a prorated amount of my fare but that was denied. "Loss of enjoyment is not a covered reason under the policy." Oh well, I thought I'd try haha.

I'm super entertained that they responded to your request that way. :rotfl2:Feels like one of those pharmaceutical commercial side effects, "may cause loss of enjoyment..."

Accckkk!!!! I didn't realize what day it was. I need to use my Dell credit. I jumped on the website and tummy need nothing they have in stock. I like the samsung earbuds... but they're over $200
I have 5% off on 3 Chase cards and Cash back at Dell on my Gold - check if you have any of these and use multiple payment methods?

Ok...I locked my credit last year. I need to unlock it to apply for new cards. Equifax and Experian are done but for the life of me I can't get into my Transunion account! I'm going to have to call tomorrow. Anyone had to do that?

How are you all handling this air quality mess coming down from the Canadian wildfires? It's been 250s ish here in the very unhealthy or unhealhy range. Haven't walked the dogs in days because of their already compromised breathing (Bostons and Frenchtons). Seems like it should improve some over the next few days.

I took the day off yesterday to do yard work/landscaping, and even with no breathing/health issues I was uncomfortable in and out of the car running a couple errands. no way I could work outside. I believe I recall you are in Michigan, as am I. I keep thinking - there are many countries where the air is this bad all the time!

When we have smoke I wear a mask when I take the dog out, get the mail or run errands. Only use the ac, don't open any windows. Limit unnecessary errands so I'm not outside anymore than I need to be. I run on the treadmill not outside and only if I'm feeling well.

I did notice last year that putting a ductless in my bedroom so I have ac improved the air which helped a ton. Didn't get the same headache or yucky feeling so I was still able to run inside. I'm not at all in a risk group but it makes me feel awful.

Now if the smoke is here but in the upper atmosphere so it's not affecting our breathing air quality I will continue on like normal.

We're super dry this year and have had tstorms in the mountains the past few days. Thankful we haven't had anything bad break out but I know it'll happen either here or up in BC and we'll get it again.

I have to google search Transunion credit freeze in order to find the correct page. You should get an option on the search page that takes you directly to the site to unfreeze. But I agree, they over complicate it.

I did that. They're not letting me in. I thought I mistyped my password and tried to do a reset... they're still not letting me do it.

I've always wondered if I'm missing out not getting any IHG cards when I read others doing so. I'm always just chasing Hyatt stays to maintain or earn status. Currently finishing a mattress run at the cheap cat 1 Hyatt Place near me to get globalist back thanks to the Bilt promo.
Everyone needs to chase what works for them. Hyatt sounds lovely to me- but they aren’t most places I travel so #Bonvoyed it is. At the end of the day it’s a place to lay your head where you hopefully won’t get robbed/dead. Anything beyond that is a plus!

Hello!!

I have been off the Dis for a while and it's been a couple of years since I last posted. BUT - I have a Disney + CC point question and I think you all may be the only ones to know the answer.

We are cruising on the Disney Magic from Port of Miami in July. We're thinking of using Disney transport (2.5 yr old needs a carseat, so don't want to Uber). Is it possible for me to use my Chase UR to book one of the two hotels Disney uses and get the transport? Or can I only book the hotel through Disney and have to pay for it??? :sad2:

Thank you!
Hi!! Chase does not have Disney hotels in their portal. They removed all of them a couple years ago. It was a VERY sad time for us :(

Yuck! When I choked a few years back on fires in CA there was no good answer and it hasn’t changed. We put stand alone air filters from Costco in every room, I stayed inside as much as possible (thank goodness I had no dog, no idea how you can exercise a dog in the house sorry), my inhaler was at the ready and when it really got bad I had to go to the smallest room with a filter and close the door for the best air possible.

The best option is to leave. But that’s not a practical option for most of us and if your car doesn’t have a great filtration system it’s a horrible option.

Wow! It didn't have the last day warning when I applied a little after 10am. (let me revise this and say 'I didn't see it'). I'm so glad I pulled the trigger when I did!

Guess we were meant to get that card!

On another note, I've somehow managed to take my Bonvoy points below 100k, and other than letting some cards go (I have 2 Biz and 2 Personal Bonvoys) I don't see an easy path to a boatload of Bonvoy points. My IHG points were nonexistent, until I bought a small stash at $5 a thousand.

On my road trips, IHG and Marriott are my go to choices, so it was time for an IHG infusion. UR's are saved for other things -summer oceanfront Hyatt Place - no way I'm transferring UR's to IHG or Marriott.

My AMEX personal platinum shows the MR points earned a few days after the charge posts. My AMEX business gold doesn't. If I look in the app or online I don't see any MR points for purchases on the business gold. Do MR points for business cards only become available after the statement posts?
My personal Gold doesn't post the points until the minimum payment is made after the statement closes. My BBP and all of my personal CC post the points the day after the statement closes.
I just noticed for our flight with United to Munich all of our first and middle names are together with no space. Is that going to be a problem?
I have read stories of it messing with Pre and GE eligibility as it causes a name mismatch.
Would it need rewiring? Is it something a handyperson can do herself?
You either have the wires in the wall with your thermostat or you don't. I had all the wires but there was an issue with the voltage. Mine uses batteries to supplement the voltage from the wire. If you have to run wires from the furnace/AC to the thermostat it's possible but not something I'd want to do myself. And once upon a time I did home electrical work for a living. Instructions from Google are pretty crappy if anything goes wrong. Reddit was incredibly helpful in getting mine up and running.
