Parks dress code?

What are your thoughts on the WDW Parks dress code? I may be in the minority, but I think it needs to be enforced more often than it does. I have seen young ladies that have less than 20% of their overall body covered. This is not proper attire for a family resort. Not everyone shares the same tastes and some depending on religion have much higher standards when it comes to modesty. I have seen the trend where it seems that young ladies dress as provocatively as possible and then take to tic tok to complain when they are removed from the parks or asked to cover up. Woman have worked for years to level the playing fields and I feel this sets that effort back. I know the opposing argument will be that a woman should be able to wear whatever she wants and not get ogled, or talked about. In a perfect world this is correct, but it will never truly happen. There will always be those, both men and women who stare, take pictures, talk about and sometimes even confront a very scantily clad young lady. This is human nature and as I said is due to the very diverse cultures and varying religious beliefs of those in the parks. Just as someone would feel they are entitled to dress in any manner they choose, others have an equal right to be offended by the way they dress.

Just wondering what the thoughts of others are.

I generally agree that they should enforce the dress code. The thing is, the standard for "coverage" can vary. Like at Disneyland in California, they have a different idea of what's acceptable. Beach wear is more common in LA. Of course, that can also vary wildly. Certainly anything overly salacious should be addressed. Shirts with inapporpriate graphics and words should always be disallowed as well. Also, socks with sandals - they really need to do something about that! 🤣

Bikini tops, very small tube / haler tops, very short almost thong type shorts. I even saw a cut t-shirt that had no sleeves, very low cut V in the front and tied up in such a manner that I'd say I'm not sure if 10% of the upper body was actually covered.

I agree on the socks with sandals. The worst.

Well for myself I prefer modesty but that is my choice. The idea of dress codes gets murky if the goals of the code are off balance. OK if it is that strings aren't ok because they can get caught up in equipment. Toss on a t-shirt for this ride sort of thing. Not ok if someone else, a watcher or peeper, can't control themselves and all the women around are expected to dress for the lowest common denominator in a crowd.

Those parks get very hot, I don't think it is ok to tell women they need to cover up and be uncomfortable because other people leer at them because God made them shapely. To me, staring is not the problem of the person being stared at, it is the vile problem of the person doing the staring who lacks common decency and respect.

I would suggest a modified dress code where the people who are caught leering should be expected to be wearing uncomfortable heavy hot blinders all day, like a horse, because they can't control their gaze and are unfit to be around decent women enjoying their day.

As long as the relevant parts are covered who cares? It's hot in Florida and you can't require everyone to dress to the standards of the most modest guest.

I think the issue is when the "relevant parts" are really skirting the envelope. I mostly don't worry too much about it, but not all bikini-tops are created equally either. Personally, I'm more concerned with the t-shirts with innappropriate content (like Universal characters! 🤣) - I think Disney usually catches those though as there is less room for interpretation.

I agree with you for the most part. I guess where I am going is to say that where do the considerations begin or end for guests that may be offended by such attire based on cultural or religious beliefs? I know some will say if they are offended, then stay home, but they have every right to visit the parks and have a good time. That is why there should be an enforced standard that is inclusive to all. Inclusivity is a door that has to swing both ways.

Absolutely love this.

I was not defending those who stare or make comments in my posing this question. I too feel they need to be responsible for themselves. I was merely drawing attention t the fact that based on creepers or cultural or religious beliefs you are going to have those who stare or make comments.

If they're offended that's their problem. They are still allowed to come, there is no discrimination.

What do one person's "religious beliefs" have to do with what someone else wears?

Some religions have much higher standards for dress and how much skin can be shown. So logically people of those religious beliefs will be offended by those who are dressed very provocatively. I am only trying to gauge if there is a standard that can be set and enforced that would allow for all to be comfortable in the parks.

Are you proposing all women wear hijabs?

Just for understanding, I am a 45 year old mother of a 12 and 7 year old girls. I wear shorts and full length tshirts (no crop tops here). Because well I am not comfortable with anything different. If there is a stated dress code it should be followed. Do I have an issue with the outfits worn by some people? No. I have had questions with my girls about why i do and don't dress a certain way and how I would like them to dress. It is not my right to tell others how they can or cannot dress. I do have more of an issue with tshirts/clothes with inappropriate statements. That does bother me. As i always say to my girls the only person you can control is yourself. You have to learn how to deal with others.

Oh No. Not at all. I am just saying WDW should more aggressively enforce the standard they already have. You can see the videos on tic tok of those who WDW has removed or given a shirt to or asked to cover up. That is more what I am referring to.

If they do they do but the wrong is on them. The US is a free place so if a person can't tolerate the freedom of women who want to celebrate life as they see fit it would seem as though they are the ones who need to curtail their lives in a way that accommodates their expectations of the world or their inability to operate in a free world. I think it was the bible that said one should strike out their eyes if they offend, so blinders or very dark sunglasses do fit in nicely with the idea that we are all in control of ourselves.

Hmmm, that would be funny to write this verse on tube tops and shorts, a reminder of who is at fault... I should be a designer;)
