Renew or Not to Renew: AP Renewal - DVC

We are coming up on our Sorcerer's Pass renewal. Our only trip planned is a week (6 days) in Sept 2023. All other points have been listed for rent/confirmed reservation. We have no other plans on coming back to Disney until after 2025 due to other family obligations. Not knowing when new AP sales are coming back, I'm scared to drop our current AP. What's everyone doing?

I renewed in October. I think I have a couple years left. But I still have a little one in princess dresses.

You're right to be scared, you might not be able to get back in to an AP if you want to visit often after 2025.
Exactly, yet we don't just want to throw money away. We can always do limited park days and definitely enjoy the resorts more.

For me its all about the $$$money$$$$
Do you mind spending the money that you will spend for AP 2024 ?
You will have piece of mind at a cost.

The COST amount is up to you.

Agree that it's a gamble and a financial decision only you can make for yourself. If you can't count on them returning - or if they do return, how long will they be sold (didn't they open DL APs for just a few days and then shut it down again?), do you renew now? On the other hand, it sounds like you might need to pay 2 years worth of AP rates on passes you might not even use. Tough call.

If I wanted to enjoy a nice resort, it wouldn't be Disney. I'd choose a better run resort that isn't overrun with kids playing Disney music. Without the parks, it's difficult for me to see the appeal of DVC. For the cost, you could do a whole lot elsewhere.

When I give up my APs, I'll probably plan to come back every few years for a Halloween party and maybe a day at Epcot.

The question is whether you think you can do your long-term Disney plans without APs.

I renewed this month for my AP that expires in April. I do two 10 day trips each year, so it is worth it to me.

We have DVC, so if we didn't do park days, we would utilize DVC stays.

That's the dilemma not having a trip planned for 2024 and early 2025. I don't like to throw money away like that, and it isn't cheap. A little over $900 to renew AP.

YEP 2 yrs of AP passes being unused. For 2 people 1 yr = approx $1800+ just to guarantee of having an AP.

If your not coming back till 2025 don't renew. I'm confident that AP sales will begin soon, probably after spring break crowds die down. I think if they didn't plan on bringing them back they would have stopped advertising it as a perk to become dvc members. If this goes on much longer they're basically misleading new buyers that they can get a AP. They say its only temporarily unavailable in reality its been like two years not counting the one day sale or whatever.

I agree. It's just been so long since they sold new APs.

I'd argue it's misleading now. But, it's in the actual documents you sign that there are no promises about any of these perks, no matter what they guide said. I don't think DVC's sales pitch matters at all to Parks or APs coming back.

I don’t know if this has already been discussed elsewhere but I received an email survey from Disney about my annual pass yesterday which leads me to believe they are considering bringing it back, otherwise why would they waste the time and money on a survey.

That's good to know. This is the first I've heard of the survey.

My wishful thinking has always been that they will resume sales sometime after the 50th celebration ends and they are done capitalizing on the spring break crowds. Hopefully if that sometime happens, it will be when I have day tickets I can apply the cost towards the upgrade lol

That why I stressed "new buyers" because seasoned owners know none of the perks are guaranteed. The ability to buy a AP is literally listed as a member benefit and has not been available for sometime now. If they did not plan on bringing back AP they would stop advertising it as a benefit other wise they are knowingly misleading the consumer.
