Pretty much, yes. We were married older, so having kids after our late 30s was a surprise.

Only one child. I wasn't surprised since we had decided to have one but was surprised it happened so fast. Dr. told me it would take anywhere from 3 to 6 months since I had been on birth control for a number of years. Took all of a week.

Our joke is that I can only have kids when I'm not trying. When we actively tried to get pregnant, I miscarried several times. But we have three kids, each representing the failure or user error of a different form of contraception.

Heck yes! Got pregnant with #1 5 months after we got married, I was a full time grad student (but we dated for 5+ years). Got pregnant with twins when the kids were 6, 4 and 1, oops.

I only have 1 child and yes, the timing was a complete surprise. We were married in September and DS arrived the next October.

It took 14 years and I had given up. Was super cranky at work one day and just wanted to slap by boss....thankfully I didn't! My company had an employee pharmacy downstairs so I bought a test and about died in my work bathroom when it was positive!!!

Both planned but our 2nd DD was a surprise because after having a couple miscarriages and doing fertility treatments with no success and costing so much, we stopped the treatment and just said if it's meant to be it will happen and just over a year later we got the great surprise that we were pregnant.

It seems kind of strange that the only one that was planned was my first when I was in college.

Two, three, and four were surprises. Then I had a tubal so no more surprises.

First was completely unplanned and occurred during the month or so between calling for an appointment to the clinic for "the pill" and the actual appointment for birth control. I found out I was pregnant at my appointment for birth control. It was 2 weeks before my 18th birthday. Second was semi-planned but still a surprise because her father was home so infrequently.
