Wow! What a cruise. Ready to answer any questions people may have since NOLA is not a common POE.

What is the beginning of the cruise like sailing out to the ocean? We plan to sail from NOLA next spring.

It’s gorgeous. We left after the sun went down and it reminded me of the float out from Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean. Peaceful; you can hear the frogs. The ship has to go very slow to make the right turns so we had zero engine noise on our balcony. It was amazing. Once we got to the Gulf- you could definitely tell we had engines running!
Easily Top 3 Sail-Outs in my 14 cruises.

who was the CD? How many guests? What shows were there? Does Daisy delights still have those awesome chocolate chip cookies?

- CD was Peter from Switzerland
- Had a little over 1,000 reserved, but only about 750 made it on board after COVID screening
- Daisy’s is still amazing! We also ordered cookies warmed up from room service after a rainy day and they were SO GOOD!

Did you have a different show every night? Was there a reduction in activities?

Wow, 250 guests tested positive at the port? That seems like a really high number.

We did have a different show every night.

The only noticeable reduction in activity was the deck parties- there was none. And there was no fanfare during dinner for Pirate night. There were no lack of things to do, but there was reduced capacity for venues (but that was never a problem with only 750 ppl on board).
One caveat: the shore excursions for people with 4 and younger (ergo unvaccinated) were few and far between. If you didn’t want to watch a movie or hang out at the pool/kids club, there weren’t a lot of options, but there was plenty of capacity.

Hi! It was 250 people who had someone in their party that tested positive. So, that could be 15 or 50 families/staterooms, not necessarily 250 positive tests.

Did you have a good time? We cancelled the New Orleans cruise for later this month because
of probability of not going to Grand Cayman.

Did you like New Orleans? have never been so we may take a weekend trip this Spring so if
any highlights let me know. Thx

How were the shows onboard?

SUCH a good time. I go for relaxation and it was a bullseye. We were sad about GC cancellation but time off is hard to get so we rolled with it! (Ended up missing a winter storm so ‘yay’!) It was 82 degrees in Mexico

I like the history of NOLA (it’s so old for an “American” city) and the numerous things outside of the French Qtr like City Park, WWII Museum, the curvey Live Oaks, the Audubon Society and all their attractions; and the food!
That said, I find it not very walkable so you need transportation. You either pay top dollar for a Lyft or you pay a crap ton for parking. Some folks also forget you are in the literal swamp: it’s hot, muggy, it rains all the time and for goodness sake bring your allergy meds! (Rant over)

The Broadway style shows are always amazing (but a little loud). We had Frozen and Disney Dreams. The other night were variety acts. They were fine, but we prefer to hang out elsewhere.

We were supposed to be cruising today out of NOLA but canceled our cruise for many of the reasons you mentioned. We only had 2 ports out of 6 days so with Disney not replacing GC, we would have had 5 sea days and with limited activities, etc. we passed. We also had 2 under 4s so being forced to take a Disney excursion (and pay ridiculous prices for "transportation" to a beach) wasn't cool either. The only show we would have gone to would have been Frozen so we would have been wandering around at night. Other things - different (IMO not as good) character interactions, no private character meet, no deck parties, etc. - just not worth it. So we postponed to Oct (sadly it's not on the Wonder, which is the ship we wanted) - and now we're sweating out to see if Disney is going to require under 5s to be vaccinated since we can't move that cruise. Really glad you enjoyed though!

Were ping pong and basketball still not available? I feel like I read elsewhere the if you ask for the paddles, they will let you use them.

Yes they were available, you just had to reserve a time with Guest Services. Same with Shuffleboard. They gave you and controlled the paddles through the reservations process. The reservations were free.

ETA: not sure about basketball, never saw it used.

Do you happen to know how late the French Quarter Lounge stayed open? I'm having my wedding on the Wonder next month and want to do a little bachelorette thing the night before but not sure if they'll still be open after second seating dinner.

We had a similar number filtered out on our Magic sailing in January, but my understanding is it was the number on the passenger manifest from shoreside who didn't make it. So, this also included anyone who had "called in sick" in the last couple of days.
