My husband thinks Disney will reduce Star Wars hotel pricing after initial release

The pricing question will be driven by repeat demand. Is this a one (expensive) visit and done? People grow attached to Disney Cruises and do a bunch. Are people going to want to hit the Star Wars Virtual Cruise and become Gold members? Repeatability matters and cost investment matters. I like Star Wars, grew up with it, and an intrigued by the concept. Something that costs as much as a 4 night cruise somewhere real for two nights with some cool viewscreens and dinner theater is going to be a HARD sell to my spouse...if *I* even want to try and sell her on it. It'll sell huge at first, no doubt, but will it remain sustainable?

I hope it does well. I want a Hogwarts Hotel to compete with it for my wife and son.

If it cost less per person for 3 night cruise would you consider it?

Say it starts either at lunch or before dinner, then there’s 1 full day and everybody leaves after breakfast the next morning. 2 nights and 2 days really, includes 5 or 6 meals and the whole experience is under 48 hrs. Good turnover, they can book 18000 rooms a year with avg room occupancy… between 2 and 3 ppl maybe? 18000 rooms X 2.5ppl X $1k per head is $45million per year. Not shabby, plus they’ll be selling all kind of merch like costumes and memorabilia.

If it cost $2.5k for my family of 3 we might. Definitely would at $2k, probably not if $3k. We average near $1k/day at WDW already between room, tickets, food, extras, etc. An extra $500 would be tolerable. I’d love to see what cost they decide!

I agree - prices likely to go in only one direction... UP. Have to say, I was on the fence but watching that video with the imagineers talking about the experience has me really wanting to try it. Will see if I still feel that way when I see the rates.

3 words never said in the same sentence- Disney- reduced prices!

They could bring back FP+, add on an extra $100 automatic per person per day/night onto the cost of a trip, and give everyone three "free" FP+ selections and we would be just fine with that. But only because we already have our trip booked and paid for so our price would not go up but we'd still benefit from the FP+. :rotfl:

The only thing that might make prices go down is the lack of demand. You have to be a diehard Star Wars fan to want to do this. The preview they released said it’s for everyone but it’s not. And it’s probably something you only do once. That being said my family wants to go so
I’m so curious how much it’s going to cost.

Yes, after the additional information today, I told DH that if we can’t afford a European river cruise for our anniversary next summer, we should consider this. It sounds like the flight up to the Starcruiser is shorter than a trans-Atlantic flight!

I wouldn’t call us die-hard SW fans, but OTOH we really enjoyed the one SW Weekend we attended (turned out to be the last year for them), and I’ve enjoyed the couple of SW novels I’ve read. So I think we would likely enjoy this, too, although as you say I can’t see us doing it more than once.

My DH made me laugh this morning. We were talking about a trip we're planning for October 2022 and how I'm dying for Disney to announce its pricing on the new Star Wars hotel (since we're all big Star Wars fans).

DH said, "Whatever the pricing is, I think we should skip that on the next trip and wait for when Disney will reduce the price."

:rotfl2:

Oh sweetie, Disney doesn't ever drop its prices. At best, you'll be able to get a package discount of some kind.

Until Disney announces the Star Wars hotel packages, I'll be sitting here waiting!
Honestly… I was thinking about that this morning and idk… I think he’ll be right as far as discounts eventually starting on it even if the rack rate doesn’t drop.

It will be a one and done for some, it will become a Disney tradition for others (with a lot of spare vacay money if those rumored prices are right 😮) - much like WDW in general. Unlike WDW, right now a stay is 2 nights. Meaning the entire hotel turns over every two nights. That’s a lot of capacity. Maybe they only run it twice a week instead of 365 days a year- but still. Lot of capacity. And while there are many a Star Wars fan out there… idk that there are this many. Remember when SWGE opened in Disneyland? Everybody (Disney included) was absolutely certain the park would be swamped that summer then after SWGE opened it was the lightest summer in recent memory? 🤣

I’m sure Disney will want to keep the price up to milk the SW fans but the level of demand for this type of experience is a complete unknown AND it relies entirely on Star Wars fans. I’m definitely not willing to bet prices won’t drop- be that via rack rate or, more likely imho, sales.

It will be around $3000 per person to start with. Two days, two nights. It's immersive, not just some dinner theater as someone here suggested. Lots of characters. A full story will unfold. This project has taken 6 years and a lot of Imagineers who were frustrated by what got left out of Galaxy's Edge are working on it. They have a lot of freedom to be creative. (Source...my friend who is working on it )

I would not expect any break on prices for a while, including a lack of seasonal fluctuations, unless demand is much softer than they expect. I could maybe see a few short term promotions, perhaps for DVC or something like that, to get the ball rolling, again depending on demand. I expect the first couple weeks to be flooded with vloggers and other media people, and I think demand will be high short term, perhaps as long as a year. Whether it is sustainable remains to be seen. I do hope they have plans long term to update the experience so it is completely different and encourages return visits. I don’t think I will be going, as I could book a two week WDW trip with food for what I expect this to cost (especially if there is a single supplement like cruises have).

Somewhere in my research I read 1400-3000 per person for the three night full immersion. And they hope people do not leave until their voyage is completed. Something like $7000. For a family of 2 adults n 3 kids.
whatever it is, it will be interesting to hear about the experiences. Then, we ll make a decision if it’s worthy it.

Looks like it will settle out as a 3 day/2 night experience. Other places also reported rumored pricing of $3000/person for a regular cabin but that it could fit up to 5 for a total of $7200/cabin so serious breaks would be given for persons 3-5.

*I cannot fathom dropping $6k and leaving early when the entire experience is only ~60 hours long 😮

After 2 years they can invite DVC for one wing section and then the maintenance and upgrades will be covered. Disney always wins

The last time Disney really dropped prices was the great recession. He's going to have to wait a bit.

I recommend he find a good, local LARP group.
