Great! The card that I'd want to do this with is the CSP.
I'm new to the CC game and I'd like to transfer funds from our checking account immediately after purchase so we don't get confused about how much money we actually have. My husband usually handles all the family finances, so I don't want to mess him up by getting involved in all this.

Like, @Judique , I also pay off my CCs once a week. I used to do it daily, but find that once a week works best for me. You won't be able to pay immediately as the charge has to post which takes a few days, depending on the merchant.

Another question: Is there a certain amount of time I should wait between credit card applications? I'm ready to get my first one (besides a biz I got a year ago). There are a couple of cards that I'm interested in within the next couple months.
Something else to keep in mind is Chase's 5/24 rule (they won't approve credit applications if you've opened 5 cards from any bank within the last 24 months). That's one of the reasons people focus on Chase cards first. Here's another idea for the future since you mentioned having the CIU card. If you're not getting much use out of that, you could consider product changing it to a CIC. That card gets 5% at office stores which is nice for buying gift cards, especially when they have fee-free visa gift card promotions.

I'm definitely going to check multiple times a day! It is so insane that literally every flight from any island to the mainland is sold out on that day!
I wouldn't buy right now,as I think the odds are small they'll let you in from mainland by then....that's my personal take.

I pay weekly as well because I get paid weekly. It's just easier. As long as the charge is pending you can pay a different amount and include it in what you're paying. I don't always do this but will sometimes and it's never been an issue.

I think that may depend on the card. I don't think Amex lets you pay more than what is posted. Not sure though - haven't tried it in a while. I wait until charges post...it is less confusing for me that way. I do put anything on my card in my budget app right away though (daily). This helps me keep track as well.

Do MasterCard and BoA not count 5/24?

I believe I get the 5% from office stores with my biz Ink, too. I've never taken advantage of it, though. It would work for GCs like Disney, right? Do they ever have cards for Southwest? Or for hotels, Air B&B, or VRBO? That could be a big savings.

Thanks for all the responses! I won't hesitate to apply for the Sapphire now. 😀

Another thought - is for you to get the Chase Sapphire. (Don't put DH down as an AU as if he gets in the game it will count as one of his 5/24). Once you are done with the spend you can refer DH to the Sapphire Card. You will get 15,000 UR Referral points and DH will then get 60,000 points after meeting the MSR. Between spend and bonuses you will be close to 145,000 UR's, which you can cash out at $1450 towards anything or use in the Chase Travel Portal and those same points are worth $1812. UR points also transfer to SW 1:1. Lots of value in getting UR points. Many of us get as many of the Chase UR cards that we can as they are so versatile.

I've done it on amex, Chase and Bofa without issue.

So within 6 months, we can have $1812 of free money from purchases we're already making! Nice! Minus the annual fees. Is the AF charged at the end of the year? I've seen people comment about Product Change. Will they allow me to switch to a different (no fee) card before I've been charged the first year?

The annual fee will be charged ASAP. But you can product change after a year. (you can't Product Change before a year is up and definitely do not cancel any card before a year is up - CC Companies don't like that and make it harder to get cards from them in the future. Also you cannot book Disney Rooms on the Chase Portal - Chase got rid of those rooms a few years back. But pretty much everything else you can.

I signed in to my Chase account and tried to apply for the CSP. The only card I have right now is a business one with them. It gave me the message "Application Unavailable. We appreciate your interest. Due to a system issue, the application is unavailable. Please try again later."
Is this just a temporary system thing, or does this likely have to do with them not giving away so many credit cards right now?

Is this an advertised sale? I don't see it showing fee free anywhere in store or online?
There wasn’t a sign at my local store on LI this morning, I purchased more than one, they went straight to FD and liquidated to make sure they still worked there. Will try for more tomorrow.
For me usually as the week progresses they limit me to 1, not sure if that’s because at the start of the week they don’t realize they are fee free or :confused3

i have always applied from a Chase support link on our reddit DISchurners page...if you belong there maybe if you can apply with one

I'm not sure. I just went today and got two more. The cashier was in training and the manager had to help him ring it up and made a comment that he would allow me to buy two but then printed out the sign saying the limit was one.

It's in their weekly flyer online. I looked yesterday when @havaneselover mentioned it and went today and got 2. There was no signage in the store that I saw. Thanks for the heads up on this yesterday. I had given up that Staples was going to have these again.

Agree about using a support link but I'd also think that it may have been because you were logged into your biz card. I know you can combine the biz and personal cards with Chase by sending them an am but they are set up separately by Chase to start with.
