Anyone familiar with steamboat springs? Trying to decide if worth the premium to stay at Sheraton at the base or go for the Homewood Suites in town and shuttle. Or if there’s a condo building you’d recommend, I would appreciate the advice. First time to steamboat, Dh, me, and two boys 9 and 13, going to ski.
We were at a Condo 4 years ago with our girls, 5 & 8 at the time. The shuttle was no problem, we didn't mind it at all. Staying at the base would have been awesome but we didn't feel like it was necessary.

Marriott bonblah brilloant upgrade offers- I’ve got 50k points for 2.5k in spend.
I think that getting a new brilliant and then taking the upgrade was the way to go? I don’t really want to do this as it would put me at 5/24 till November and I was hoping for another :drinking1or two before then.

is this worth it? im keeping the card, I can still use the 35K cert at a hotel near my college homecoming on a week they chard like $350 bucks a night for a courtyard in the middle of nowhere. Will this offer come back again next year?

thsnks!

DH’s started at something low before her finally got the 125k upgrade offer.

Hyatt benefits question. I am the lowest tier; just a member. It does look like on points bookings, resort fees are waived. Can anyone verify that for Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando? @Alexle2007 Did you just visit there? I am assuming no free breakfast though.

Looking for somewhere for long weekend in September. Want a nice pool and dining variety close by. Oh and "free" with points.
They did give some type of one free benefit a day option. I opted for the breakfast coupon so we did get a couple of breakfasts. I did the continental and the boys did the full so they used the free breakfast and I paid for mine since had a lower cost.

The resort fees are waived but not parking. (That was one of the options but we didn’t have a car.)

We are Explorist, I think? Whatever tier is below Globalist.

it’s a great resort though with plenty of onsite activities for only 12k a night.

Question about balances on a card when a statement closes- is that what shows up as your credit balance on your credit report when it’s pulled?- or is it updated more frequently than just end of statement? We usually just pay our balance in full by the due date but I’m wondering if we should be paying them off before the statement closes if the balance is high? Also, I know most business card application inquiries don’t show on your credit report but do cards and balances show up?

What Marriott cards do you have, or did have, between Chase and Amex?

Yes, that is what posts to your CR but once you pay it that also posts. I had a very large Rose Gold balance and my credit score dropped quite a few points but immediately bounced right back up when I paid the balance off.

ETA: I held my breath for this one. After Marriott’s changes I was nervous. I’m currently trying to get enough UR’s to transfer to Grand Hyatt Kauai for a stay this Fall. I was so afraid it would be on this list, but it looks like it I lucked out. Hopefully these changes don’t hurt too much. The only one that stood out to me is MCO Hyatt is moving a category.
I don't see anything too terrible here for my purposes - I will continue to be happy to focus on Hyatt and say Bonvoy! to Marriott.

More reasons why Hyatt is treating members better than Marriott:-

- Almost as many properties decreasing a category as increasing
- If you have already booked an award at a hotel that goes down in category - you will automatically receive a points refund.
I checked some hotels in Australia since I still need to book those :rotfl: The Hyatt Regency Sydney is going down a category (5-->4) and the Hyatt Regency Perth is going down a category as well (2--->1). We'll use a free night at the Sydney location and enjoy saving 6000 points in Perth (2 nights). I was afraid that something would happen to the Park Hyatt Sydney but all is ok.

Exactly what I do and in addition, I haven't put a card on my room since I got a 'your card may have been compromised.' letter back 10ish years ago. This means I can't use online checkin, but at the same time, I like the contact with the desk cm's and it often works in my favor to make a face to face contact with them. This trip I had 2 Bwv nights but they weren't the same category - I'd been piecing it together. So the guy is super nice and I say, 'I'm also staying here tomorrow night.' He says, let's see what we can do, and I said, oh it's 2 different views - I figured you really couldn't help me much.

And I followed that up with, I'm actually willing to take whatever you can give me as I won't be in the room much since I'm hanging with family this trip. So he says, so the same room is most important? And I said, yes, absolutely. He said let me work on it and I'll give you a call. Thanks, see you later and I left. I started back to my car and the guy called me before I made it down the hallway more than a few rooms (going to parking lot) and says you've got room 20xx and it's ready now! Great room!

I love all my cast members at BWV and I recognize many this trip as I've been here 3 times in 4 months. Usually year to year there are many new faces. I think most really go the extra mile to make our stays comfy but I have also come across a few random characters.
I love BWV and stay there as often as I can. We usually use our BW points there in the fall. Most of the time I am able to get BW at 7 months in advance for March so I use our AK points then. But like you said the staff does turn over so I usually don’t end up recognizing anyone. I do know many of the CMs in the member lounge though! 😂

Little reversed on the business cards, most issuers don't report the card (and subsequently the balance) but they will make an inquiry on your personal credit report. (Well if they were going to hard pull. AmEx is known to regularly soft pull your report so they often won't do a hard pull after the first card.)

Most card issuers only update on statement close, so yes your statement balance is reported with your credit limit each month usually. Some also will report off-cycle if you pay your card down to $0. If you are hitting utilization limits you can make payment before the statement closing to lower that. But for now, credit utilization as it affects your score has no memory. If you are high one month and drop a couple points, paying it off the next month would generally return those score points. I had a 0% interest rate so I floated a balance for a while. My utilization is usually 1% but for a couple months I went up to 3 or 4 as I floated that and met some other sign up bonuses. I dropped some points, but once I made some payments that brought it back to around 1% my score went back to normal.

In my case the credit swing didn't affect anything, I was still in the Excellent band. And most people who aren't on the edge of a band won't care. But if your score fluctuates, changing to paying before statement close instead of due date should stabilize it. You can still let a balance report, but make it a small balance ($20? $100?) and then pay that remainder by the due date.

We're heading there this weekend, and have been there numerous times in the past 5-10 years. If you have lots of discretionary income, it would be a treat to stay at the Sheraton for sure. That said, we never have lol. We stay at a timeshare that operates a shuttle, and that has worked just fine. The biggest difference is the skis/poles storage - unless there is ski storage available at the base, you'll have to lug your stuff while wearing those infernal boots (aka foot torture devices). I can post here after this weekend and say if the shop there at the base still does ski storage as it's been a couple years since we were there. I think it's included if you stay at the Sheraton.

Back from a long weekend in Maui and catching up. Good news/bad news for me. I thought I'd already paid my membership at the Grand Wailea, but I received the bill while I was there. It went WAY up. The good news is that I also received my Aspire while I was there so now I will meet my minimum spend and get 14x to boot. Always a bright side on spending money when you are a gamer/churner :)

Did you already use your $250 resort credit? A charge to the Grand Wailea should trigger that too.

Southwest Change window open - it should start on June 7th and may go thru Aug 10th possibly. (end date needs to be verified still)

Credit to @Albort for bringing it to my attention!!

Even though we know this is all over the place now, let’s still try to keep it fairly hush as I don’t think most people know how this works fully!!

I’ll make a spot on the DISchurners news thread to discuss this.
