The Running Thread - 2019

Since it's the last day of February and I am officially done with my February exercise now:
Distance run in February: 93.42km = 58 miles
Number of floors climbed: 1199 floors or 23,108 steps! (And this is only the amount I actually logged as exercise and excludes other stair climbing in daily life)

Started stair climbing this month as there were a couple of rainy days where I couldn't run outdoors. Realised it is great HIIT (heart rate goes up as I climb the building, then goes down as I take the elevator down) and lower impact than running, so have done quite a bit of it this month.

Hopefully I can keep up the distance run next month - really want to keep building up distance with the aim of doing another half marathon this year!

February Training Summary
Running duration = 2:11:45 hours
Running mileage = 13.1 miles
Average Pace = 10:03 min/mile
Average HR = 130 (63% HRR)
Indoor Cycling duration = 22:20 hours
Indoor Cycling mileage = 351.3 miles
Indoor Cycling average power = 157 watts (an increase of 4.6% from Jan)
80 Day Obsession = 20:28 hours
Total Training Time = 45:00 hours

February was another good month for me. Second in total time spent training only to January (48:34 hours), but when evaluated on a per day basis since Feb is shorter this was a higher amount of training (1:34 hours per day vs 1:36 hours per day). My FTP (functional threshold power) on cycling has improved 7.5% since November and 4% since January. I'm lifting significantly higher amounts of weights during 80DO (for example had to use 5 pound dumbbells on one-arm plank with tricep curls and now I'm using 15 pounds). And most importantly to me is, I'm back to running again. I'm trying to keep my HR really low (less than 130 bpm or 63% HRR) on my training runs for the first 8 weeks. The pace has obviously slowed since the last time I ran (135 days between run days). But over the course of just 4 runs under similar elevation/environmental conditions and with the same HR average my pace has dropped from 10:40, to 10:18, to 9:52 to yesterday's 9:25. So the progression is moving in the right direction. Lastly, I've being doing a really good job of keeping the training load progressing in the Elevate "optimal" zone with nearly 75% of training spent in "optimal" or what would be considered an ideal building of fitness. Later this week, my training load will move into the highest levels I've ever been to surpassing the days when I used to run for upwards of 10 hours per week. I feel stronger and prepared to take on the next challenge in March and look forward to possibly racing for the first time in May.

ATYQOTD - I may be the winner, live in Auckland New Zealand and was sent to Florence, Italy for work for two weeks (was a tough gig). I got a few runs in while there, distance between the two cities is 18,411km or 11,440 miles.

In terms of races, farthest I’ve travelled for a race is only around 50km/30ish miles

Uh oh @IamTrike! I think you've been unseated!

February: 16.32 miles
Year to date: 99.06 miles

The plan for February had been to start my last half marathon plan from DopeyBadger again in preparation for a local half in March, but with two different rounds of illness it just hasn't happened. DH has already been warned that March 17th is going to be an ugly race; the good news is that the course is open for 3 1/2 hours so I know I'll be able to finish as long as I am smart about pace the entire time.

February miles: 25.28

I signed up mid-month for RunnersConnect in hopes it might help me really develop some good running habits, get in decent shape for the SW Half and start looking ahead to my first Full in January. This is pretty much all since the 15th. Interestingly, they have me doing long intervals (6 minutes run, 4 minutes walk x4 for example). I really like tracking by time rather than pace or mileage. it breaks it up mentally and, honestly, I wasn't sure I could actually run six minutes straight without stopping when I first started, but it's been really confidence-boosting to see what I can do with this format!
