I love credit cards so much!

It's a lot of spend to open both at once but totally worth it if you can swing it. I know for bank accounts you can fund 2k at PNC. I just opened an account for my dd18 ($200 bonus with $2000 in DD) and I used my CIC to fund 2k. If you and dh both did an account, that would wipe out one card right there. Others here are better with the bank funding stuff but there is info on the DISchurners group and doctor of credit has good info on which banks have bonuses, allow CC funding and requirements for the accounts.

I just funded PNC and BMO with the CSR and CSP. For PNC you can open a checking and savings account and fund 2k each so that’s one card out of the way. BMO you can do a checking, savings, and money market for 1k each they need to be opened at the same time.

This is exactly what I needed to know. Thanks for the info!!

As of now...I booked a reservation using points a 1 br at Wyndham Bonnet Creek but there was a 2br there at an excellent price that’s tempting....if I have time today I’ll call to see and report back

Man, there are some great deals at WBC for the end of summer right now. Haven't convinced dh that we should go yet, though. Probably because we are going to be there in October already. :)

Unfortunately not traveling the end of the summer....my son lives in Orlando so looking to see him for Christmas was originally looking at 12/25-12/30...but on wow definitely way more points then we have....and my son pointed out he couldn’t take off during the week...so now looking at 12/19-12/24...saw a 2br at WBC for like 87,000 UR

Anyone else going to wait until the last minute to buy the Marriott F&H package? I don’t need the 7 night certificate, but I could use the SW miles.
I do eventually want to use the 7 night certificate at the Swanphin or Courtyard - Theme park entrance both new Cat 6, but not until November 2019. I don't know what to do!

Why can't they just announce what's going to happen to the current certificates?
I've been waiting, too. I think I'm going to call early next week. I was having trouble deciding which airline to go with. We're in the early stages of planning a trip to Japan next fall, and after researching my options for business/first class we decided to fly ANA. For that we'll need Virgin Atlantic miles that I can top off with UR. Now that the decision has been made, I'm waiting to see if any news comes out on the packages. I think I'm going for the Cat 6, but honestly I don't know when I would use the cert.

Also I was a slacker, aka i was busy and everytime i remembered to call for retention offers for my SW card they were in our lock box and I was at work...

So I just did it today. My statements closed the 14th and 15th so I had already paid them (I fell into the range of people where the posted before my points)... and a late fee because I thought they both closed the 15th... I'm ashamed!

But anyways, my AFs posted June 1st and I was offered $35 for the plus and $100 for the business card. So I paid $69 + $99 + $15 late fee. After credits it will be $48, so it's like getting 9k RR points for 0.5 cents each if I did the math right?

I think I'm going to share my Plus card link of FB a few times for the next year. Plus I'll be able to refer DH for his CP if that's the card we go with.
I would SM Chase a politely ask if as a courtesy they could wave the late fee with one time. Just mention that you always pay your account and in full on time. Pretty sure they will wave it for you.

Never heard of someone trying that tbh. As long as it’s refundable (be very careful about that! I get confused on the their portal sometimes about that) I don’t think you have anything to lose.

I am intrigued by this as well. Let us know if it works out. Seems like a great idea in theory.

Called Chase...I can’t book the reservation with cash on the UR portal and later convert to points.
Can do a combination of points and cash. Or if when I have enough points cancel a refundable reservation and rebook with points

@Lain - I received this response from MPX:

Thank you for your interest in using MileagePlus X.

There may be a delay (for at least two weeks) before new MileagePlus members can begin using the app. Please allow at least two weeks after your last attempt before using the app again. Any attempts made before that time frame may cause a longer delay. Keep in mind, you must be physically located in the 50 United States or the District of Columbia when using the app to make a purchase.

So, I will try again in two weeks. We shall see. They do not mention the erroneous charge on my CC that should be refunded. Hopefully the pending charge will just drop and I won't need to fight for a refund.

anyone here familir with IHG website? it's REALLY funky right now...the app isn't much better

24 hours and nothing back yet.... I'm going to try calling even tho it's Dh acct....(thanks for the DP!)

Did you cancel online or by calling? I have never cancelled one as I'm usually using it just before it expires as it comes August 1st and I always use it in July.

Trying to do the cost/benefit analysis on the new SW Priority card...I think I might go for it *as long as* the offers for the other personal cards stay at 40K this fall and winter. With 7500 points + $75 credit each year, I'd come close to breaking even on the annual fee with just one flight a year to visit family, and I could meet the extra $6k spend for the CP in Jan-Feb-Mar while waiting for my CSR/CSP double dip. Those perks sound nice too. No plans to use the CP anytime early next year so I could wait a bit to get that last 25k RR to put us over the top. Anything I'm not thinking of?

What are y'all thinking?

I'm not sure how you got bumped up to United Silver just from getting miles as it's not like those are PQMs. With that said, what exactly did you do to get 132k United miles? I could always use some more :P

Maybe it was just a coincidence on the timing--I don't know how Silver is earned. I assumed those miles bumped me over the qualification, but maybe it was my hawaii flight (only one way completed at time). I wasn't Silver when I flew out to Maui, the miles appeared, and when I went to check in for my return flight I'm Silver. So in other words I may have my causality wrong :) It was a nights and flights (marriott) package Category 6.

That does sound like a future nightmare call burn I’d be calling anyhow. United miles can be earned at a pretty fast pace via UR cards and 1:1 transfers. Alaska miles cannot be earned as quickly. The options are the Alaska card and SPG card which will be extremely devalued as a miles earning card come August. This is why I picked up 4 of the nights and flights packages and transferred everything to Alaska.

Yes, this is exactly why I was so bummed! I'm just dreading the phone nightmare and potential for more screw ups. I have never heard of this. She mentioned on the phone that they were having IT issues, which is why it took over 40 minutes to get done. I was very clear about Alaska though so if they tape conversations that will help.

Oh my gosh. I see no way around this that doesn’t involve long times on the phone and even then I haven’t a clue where this will end up. Maybe it will slightly shorten if you start with “I purchased a package with Alaska points and just found out I was given United points, I need to speak to a manager immediately.”

I would definitely be on the phone with marriott for what it’s worth. I have no idea what you can expect but I would start with demanding my AS miles but you have to be willing to give them back their UA miles. I’d do it sooner rather than later if you are going to call because those phone lines are only going to get busier as more people decide on their travel packages before the deadline.

Thank you so much for the suggestion--I will do that when I call. I'm flying across the Pacific today so it will have to wait until tomorrow. Such a bummer. I've never heard of this happened before so I have no idea whether it's possible for them to claw back or what. I'll updated when I find out more but won't be until tomorrow at earliest.

I love how knowledgeable people on this thread are. I am very grateful for everyone’s help.!!!

Now, I have another question. I’m picking up a rental car that I reserved through Costco travel but it’s with AVIS if that matters. I have the CSR and CSP and I was planning to use one of them to rent the car and use the Chase CC primary rental car insurance. I don’t remember if I used the CSR when I originally reserved it. (Not sure if I had it yet). I might have used the Costco card....

Anyway, I just called AVIS and asked him about the credit card insurance question. The guy told me they would put a $100 hold on the original card I used, and I can’t change the card. But when I returned I could use any credit card to pay for he car. (But I need to use my CSR for the insurance.) Then he said the credit card insurance is a third party insurance and they’d still use my own car insurance and then I could get reimbursed by my credit card. That didn’t sound correct to me....

I'm tempted too. I'm at 3/24 and the only other card on my radar is the Amex SPG luxury (need this for Europe next summer). I want to get my kids to Chicago (son is dying to see a Cubs game) so this is one piece of that puzzle. Plus maybe enough points for me to visit my parents in SW FL once or twice.

Just completed a rental with Avis through Costco....I don’t remember putting credit card information in when booking. I did put cc info. in when I opened up a Avis Wizard/Preferred account for my husband and added the Costco reservation so we could skip the line

I will probably have DH apply at some point after we are done collecting the United miles we need. My DS flies SW a lot and we can use the points and credits this card offers. DH would probably be able to meet the MSR and apply the points towards CP - would take longer to earn the CP, but that is OK.
