No Show Today

I get that it's annoying when the weekly show is canceled, but I have to laugh at the "we're only saying something because we're so worried you'll lose listeners!" sentiment.

I think that after 10 years, they're aware of the ramifications of missing shows. They also take multiple weeks off at the end of every year.

Hopefully this helps answer some questions...

1. Pete is the boss and we listen to him. He wants his show live and we make it happen and when he wants to sub in for pre-recorded shows we listen, and at the end of he day it is all his choice and we are doing his bidding.
2. The shows are recorded out of Pete's house and when he says we can't come over, we can't come over and that's that.
3. We realize that it does throw people out of their loop when the podcast doesn't come out, but 99% of the time we try to make up for it with extra content. We know this is benefits video viewers more than audio listeners, but we could just do nothing and leave it at that.
4. The Universal Show sadly will never be live again. At this point we struggle to get it pre-recorded in the studio in the days that we have over there to do so and we'd lose another day of park time to being in the studio and it's kind of hard to proclaim that you're experts at helping plan perfect vacations when you never spend time in the parks.
5. The Disneyland Show will be back soon - it will be different, but it will be back soon.
6. Finally, Ryno and I both loved doing DIS POP, but it just wasn't working as a weekly show and the audience retention didn't help the case. It's essentially the same as a TV show you love getting cancelled after the first season. If only more people would've tuned in, the network probably wouldn't have cancelled it.

Thanks for everything you and the team do. :upsidedow

Dude, I was joking. Since when do you not understand sarcasm? Clearly you're working too hard. You needed the day off from producing the show.

ETA: I didnt mean that to be as mean as it sounds. I'm cool with the Universal Show being prerecorded. I'm cool with missing a show when the studio is not available. Do what works best for you guys. I'm just here for to enjoy whatever podcasts I can get.

This is getting to be in poor taste.

(as previously stated just some of you, not all of you)

... and my better half always accuses us Disney people of being nothing but sentimentality and pixie dust!

The remaining dis podcasts are primarily video-and the audio works much better for my life
I'm curious what you mean here. I ONLY listen to the DIS shows. I virtually never watch any of their content. I listen in the car. That includes the Tuesday show, the Dreams Unlimited show, the Dining show, the Best and Worst show, the Daily Fix, and the Connecting with Walt show. Which content is "primarily video"? I don't follow the Universal show but when I did, I listened to that one too.

I would also add that I never listen live since I'm working when the show airs. Sometimes I don't get to the Tuesday show for a few days. And I often fall weeks behind on the other shows and catch up when there's a gap in the Tuesday show, so them missing a show due to travel or illness really doesn't bother me. And I would certainly never take the show out of my "rotation" just because they weren't able to do it one week for some reason.

I do listen to many of these-but some don’t work as well on audio only. For instance, many of the in park segments or dining reviews would probably be much easier to hear/more entertaining if I could see the video. They typically work fine for audio but are more and more clearly created for a video audience. That’s fine, just not how I consume this type of media typically.

Wow. So much complaining about FREE content!! These are real people putting together these shows, and things happen. That's just life. I listen to plenty of other podcasts that may take a break for one reason or another, but that's why I stay subscribed so that I can get new episodes when they return. At least when they know they will be unable to go out live they do their best to pre-record something. With the volume of shows they put out each week, missing one Tuesday show is just a drop in the bucket.

You know, there was a time when I first joined the boards that I felt entitled to complain about the content. But, to your point, I was gently reminded that the team does this for the public at no charge. Now, I honestly try to put that perspective first before typing anything that resembles an unjustified/unwarranted critique.

I love how after a thoughtful, detailed post from Craig, one of the first responses is "Dude chillax! Take a chill pill!"

@Teleclashter For future reference, I perform an interpretive dance to the entire Epcot entrance loop. It is approximately 47 minutes long, and I have it on high-quality video. So if another situation arises at the last minute that prevents a live show from being broadcast, I would be happy(and honored) for you to air my contribution in its place.

It wasn’t directed just at you! It is a common thing I have seen or heard whether it’s the boards, YT comments or in person. I just threw it in there since it was brought up anyways. Let’s remember, I’m the king of sarcasm, but the day off part is hilarious. I spent the day editing vlogs and writing all for nothing because if it’s not a LIVE Tuesday show then it doesn’t matter!

I'm not sure how it works but do you guys look at both YouTube views and podcast downloads on deciding whether or not to renew a show?
We look at everything. Views and downloads, time invested in production, feedback and reviews, ROI just to name a few. Since I’ve been around we’ve never truly cancelled a show. My Universal Show went on hiatus for a few months to be retooled at one point. The Disneyland Show has been on hiatus for months, but expect announcements about it very soon. DIS POP has been on a very long hiatus and the plan is to still bring it back one day, but we have to prioritize other work right now until the right idea sparks and we see the improvement and growth in the show.

No.

I get the love and comfort one gets from a favorite TV, radio, or podcast show. But if you are relying on a show to make or break your day/week, you’ve got to seriously take a look at your life and evaluate some other options.

And if, after you evaluate those options, you come to the conclusion this is truly what is going to make or break you, then realize there is so much Disney content available in every medium by hundreds of creators. I stopped relying on Pete and the Dis as my sole provider a long time ago. I still enjoy it from time to time, but I don’t rely on it. There is so much good and entertaining and informative stuff out there.

If you are disapproving of Pete’s business decisions (and I can understand that, too), then I have no problem with you letting him know about it. Keep posting. Let him know.

Regarding specifically the sick day thing, I agree it’s excessive. No business owner I know would take or allow employees to take as many sick days as Pete. Maybe we don’t know the full story, though, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
