I will be bugged if I'm paying $25 a night as a Poly resort guest and I can't find a parking spot because someone who wants to watch the fireworks from the Poly beach pulls in and takes the last spot.
That would be incredibly maddening. But it sure sounds like that's exactly what could happen. They would have to add new infrastructure to collect fees from day guests. Nightly guests just get it added to their bill.

I really hope people voice their concerns on this.

Someone stated before they don't mind paying for it at the Swan and Dolphin because on the average they are cheaper than Disney hotels, but are they really?

That's 343 a night, before the 20 a day parking, so 363 a night. Yes, on paper it's cheaper than most rooms at the Floridian, Poly, and Contemporary, but it's not some outrageous savings.

The exact same dates at the Yacht Club (Yacht and Beach were the same price, Boardwalk was more):

Plus the cost of the new parking fee. So apples to apples, with no car at either resort, you're saving $900.00 to stay at the Dolphin. You also priced a King room, which is often more expensive at the Dolphin, and I didn't have that option for booking at the Yacht Club. I would stay at the Dolphin 10 out of 10 times making this comparison.

Okay Disney, I have a SIMPLE SOLUTION to whatever parking problem(s) you're attempting to solve here:

Regardless of the reason for parking at a Disney resort, give EVERYONE the same automated ticket on the way in.

THEN: Don't charge for parking according to the duration of their stay in the lot. Just charge them to leave the lot. Every time they leave the lot.

So if I'm a good and faithful resort guest that truly only uses my car as Disney desires (i.e. my car stays put in the resort lot, and I stay in the Disney bubble for as long as I am a resort guest) you charge me a single $20 parking fee when I leave Disney on my last day.

But if Harry Potter entices us to be unfaithful, or if I'm using resort lots to avoid paying for parking at the parks, I get dinged $20 on my way out.

Think of the advantages to this approach:
1. Legitimate restaurant patrons could easily get their ticket validated when paying their bill.
2. Disney has added a disincentive to arriving from the airport in a rental car with the intent of visiting Universal.
3. Disney has added a disincentive to park guests scamming free parking at resorts.
4. Disney has added a modest revenue stream for legitimate resort guests, but most won't mind paying since the parking supply has improved due to point #3.

Um...no. We drive and use our car daily to drive over to the parks. It is, once again, a perk of staying on property, to be able to park free at the parks. It saves the ridiculous wait for the busses (last trip we drove to MK, then opted to go back mid day to AKL using the bus - it was over 45 minutes to get a bus BOTH directions). I'd be BULL if I were charged every time I left the resort. That is not a good solution.

No, they aren't. Whenever I book, I look at all onsite and offsite options and go with the best price for the resort level I want. Swolphin, Hilton Bonnet Creek, Waldorf, Disney Springs hotels almost all wind up costing more because of the added resort and parking fees, so my choices are almost always an offsite resort without fees, or an onsite WDW resort without fees - whichever of those comes out cheaper is the winner. (It's a toss-up - I'd say offsite wins out about as often as onsite; just depends on the time of year and what discounts are running. But add a parking and/or resort fee into the onsite price and it quickly becomes the loser.)

But you can use points at S&W and theoretically get your stay for free. But agree with you $$$ wise.

I don’t love or hate it I see it as an industry standard for touristy places and places short on parking.

I don’t see the point of it at all wdw resorts but there are some that parking is so hard to find. This won’t easily fix those parking at hotels to bybpass parking at the parks.

It may be a new industry standard BUT Disney already way overcharges for the rooms they offer based on industry standard. Now if they want to drop their rates to be a wee bit closer to the room values then I can see the added charge. This is like taxing taxes; double taxation.

If it's parking space .............. just start charging at the resorts for day visitors (who are the real problem whether due to limited space or parking & taking buses to avoid park parking fees). If you can't scan that hotel MB then you get a ticket. With an ADR or appointment stamp (spa, etc) you get 3 free hours, without you get 2 free hours (QS, shop or explore). If you don't abide by this you pay by the hour and make it high so it is way more than theme park parking if someone is trying to avoid.

Do this and your parking shortage ends, your income goes up.

For this to happen you would have to be pricing comparable rooms and I don't think that can work in Disney's favor. If I am looking at Doubletree in Disney Springs all that can beat their rates is usually AllStars or POP with a discount. I can get Hilton Bonnet Creek with fees often less than any moderate and they are not in the same league.

I agree, we compare lots and go with best value so we can travel more often but it is rare Disney comes out the best choice.

I understand the simplicity of your idea, but this would end up being an overcharge for my family. We like to try restaurants at different hotels (AKL, FW, etc.) and the car is much more of an advantage over the internal Disney transportation, as buses don't go resort-to-resort. And with a lot of young children (I have 3 under 5 years old), it sometimes helps to drive to the park (mainly HS or AK b/c you can park right there) as opposed to trying to juggle multiple strollers on the bus. Totally get the spirit of your idea though.

Normally, I just complain on the internet. That is was 90% of the internet is used for.

But this time, I'll actually be complaining to Disney.
Ditto. I want them to know they just lost me for good. Even if they don't care, lol!

Its how your raise rates without raising rates. For those that fly in, its a non issue. But those same people don't use the parking lots either. So this way they are passing the buck (so to speak) to those that use it and they will now help to repave the lots, the streets and the other services they use.

This will soon spill over to the off-site locations too. Swan Dolphin has done it for years, same as the resort fees just like most other resort locations.

Remember Disney isn't a charity. Remember those people saying Disney should pay a "living wage" well this is one of the ways they can do it. With crowds like they have, they can afford to do it too, people will still come and still pay. They will only stop when people stop going, which isn't going to happen any time soon.

So if I pay $250 plus a night at AKL and drive there, I have to pay $24 a night for my car to sit in the giant parking lot at AKL. While some one who isn’t DVC rents points at a lower overall price and gets free parking?

I'm not sure how to interpret the wording - so I booked a res for early May, and booked it last week... I should not have to pay for parking?
That's how I read it. I sure hope so, really don't want to pay for parking on my existing reservation (or ever!)...

I'm curious to see how it'll work with point rentals...:scratchin
