Hurricane Irma?

That makes the assumption that it will continue travelling due north (which is possible) but the NHC update says it it expected to travel north north west.

Yes, however many media outlets from the Orlando area are saying the eye is going to be further inland than predicted earlier.

So I'm not sure the NHC is 100% accurate with where the eye will land

We left early too and I keep going back and forth on it. We were scheduled to leave on Wednesday morning so would only have had Tuesday (maybe) at the Parks. Now that we have left though we have let our kids see the media coverage of the storm and I am glad that we left for their sake - they would have been terrified even if its not coming right over Orlando as expected earlier. Stay safe everyone!

Just a heads up. I see that you said it was a brown spider. Brown recluse spiders are prevalent here in the south. You do not want to be bit by one, adult or baby. They will leave a rotting hole. Those of us in the south kill them. No saving poisonous spiders.

Thank you for the warning! It looked exactly like the common house spiders we get back home, so I assumed it was ok. Never seen a brown recluse in person, do they look like the house spiders? If so I'll grab my shoe and squish him, I know right where it is.

I'm with you. Woke up Saturday morning a couple of hours before our early flight. Saw news was showing cat 3 over orlando so we finally cancelled. Now i am beating myself up. This was my 40th birthday celebration. We are having issues rescheduling due to limited availability. My wife wanted to go the whole time, it was really me that backed out. So i also feel responsible for ruining her vacation. We both have VERY stressful jobs, so this was something we both needed badly. Im so bummed.

Family and friends tried so hard to get us to cancel our upcoming trip but I said no, not until it's all over and i can make a rational decision, I think I have made the right decision.

In the south but shows it's range does not extend down in to Florida.

You can google a picture. They do look like house spiders. We don't take any chances around my home. If it is brown, it is dead.

I have a few questions/need opinions. I know whether is unpredictable, but with 4 hurricanes happening within s couple weeks within each other I'm getting nervous.

Our trip is not until 2 weeks. So I know Jose will be gone by then, but I'm worried if any other hurricanes will come behind it. Again, can't predict it I realize.

So my question is, is it too late for us to get travel insurance just in case? If we can get it, how do we get it?

So I was in the same boat. Our trip is 2 weeks away. Since we are renting the points for a stay at the Poly, we are not covered by any of Disney's cancellation policy's, nor is there a refund policy in place with the company we rented the points with. Our park hoppers can always be used another time (so no fear on losing that money), and the airfare should be refundable or movable in a worst case scenario. However, when I saw how bad this month has been I began to worry and did purchase travel insurance, but I purchased it last week. That doesn't cover me from Irma or Jose, but it should cover me if there are any other "named" hurricanes that could disrupt our trip. Per the fine print, they may not cover hurricanes if the storm had already been named at the time of purchasing the insurance. I am only covering the cost of the hotel and the airfare, so a plan for 4K. The total cost for the insurance was $147.00.

While I don't think that we will need it, I actually feel better knowing that we should be covered in the event that another event takes place. Watching the NOAA website, there does seem to be a yet to be named storm brewing in the Atlantic, and who knows what that storm will decide to do. I cannot tell you what I think is best for your trip, or your family, but I did want to share with you what I decided to do, as it looks like we are both traveling the same time (9/23-9/30).

When I read the post, my first thought was also brown recluse. Kill it.

They say it will continue north through Polk county by Lakeland and then it will move NW,but that's what a model showed and I don't think they have any confidence in it or know anything for sure, like I said we have like 3-4 more bad hours and then it should ease off.

Unless you are in the Bahamas.
Right, I think the story on Jose is too early in the making to really make decent predictions for the US. There's a possibility of Carolina coast, there's possibility to sea, there's possible interactions after Irma does whatever it's doing right now... I understand concerns about Jose- I share them. I also am going get my bar fully re-stocked and still have time to make my own bingo board for spaghetti model predictions.

To our Irma survivors and evacuees, (Hey Kate!!) I hope you continue to be safe and get through the night as well as possible. Thinking of you in this difficult time and in the recovery aftermath. Super Hugs and Best Thoughts!

I don't think we will need it either but the crazy weather is really scaring us. I'll look into getting insurance! Thank you!

And yep, 25-30 for us!
