Hurricane Irma?

It is likely to be damaged by flying debris and I'd consider that when parking the car to ride out the storm.

,
Maybe, I had my car in an FQ parking lot, uncovered near my room. It was fine. Think car in BC lot is fine. Getting to DS if it opens as something to do, will be crazy. I know, was at FQ when Matthew shut down the parks.

Right maybe a FP to restaurants after they open from the storm. Those lines after Matthew in Disney springs were ridiculous!

During Matthew they wanted to charge us $100 a night that what they were charging the reservation they were cancelling. Also after my Matthew experience if things went south the last person I would wanted to be in charge of anything would have been that manger at BLT let alone my family safety! The CM are underpaid and not train as crisis responders.
Wow what happened staying there next month

Just going to post my tips again since they are now buried some pages back.

If you haven't prepared supplies in a Disney room there is a small amount of time left but still doable

Alright so I'm gonna go off of what happened to me last year for Matthew, and I'm gonna let my Boy Scout / McGuyver brain ramble here, some of this I've said before but that was 100+ pages ago :)

Let's say theres no water at the resort for you to buy what do you do?

1. Do you have a rental car? If so, head to your nearest walmart/target they might have it, they might not, BUT head over to the plastics department, pickup some plastic cups or bowls, you now have some vessels for water. Don't want to spend too much, head over to the Plastic Freezer bag department, get some gallon baggies and fill those up, store them in the sinks at the resort.

2. No rental car? Get some dish soap from the resort store (a DVC store would prolly have it right now). Wash out your ice bucket and fill that with water, ask house keeping for some extra coffee cups or glasses and fill those with water.

3. Before using your ice bucket for water storage, go use it to fill up your sinks with ice, this rings true at value and moderates as your ice maker is gonna be located outside and once in your room you won't want to leave to go to it. Store cups of water or bags of water on top of the ice so you got cold water. Also use the mini fridge to hold your water cups.

4. Grab some sandwiches from Earl of Sandwich for the next day, ask them to keep the mayo or sauces off the bread so not to make it soggy, ask for them on the side. Ask for a couple extra sandwich wrappers, use that clean wrapper to protect your food from the iron in your room so you can heat your food up. The wrapper should be a foil wrapper, if its paper or wax paper DON'T use it, you'll have to go cold turkey (pun intended)

5. I suppose you could fill your tub with water, I didn't feel the need to last year, it was only a day we were in our rooms by the afternoon we were wandering to the food court and it's Disney, as soon as the roads to their warehouses were clear they were delivering fresh product to the stores.

6. Grab some extra towels, last year they had them everywhere free for the taking (wonder how many they "lost" as souvenirs ) use them by the door, especially if your hotel room faces the direction the wind is blowing. That little crack under the door is gonna get wet, and it helps keep a bit of the sound down.

7. If you have a car, if you don't feel comfortable parking it in the hotel parking lot, take it to Disney Springs and park it in a garage, then take the bus back to your resort. Do keep in mind you will be at the mercy of the Disney Transportation to get back to Disney Springs. However last year it wasn't bad. But when they reopened disney springs for food joints at 5:30ish some places already had a 2 hour wait, so having the car at the resort and being able to go off property to find food before the masses get released might be worth it to leave it at the resort.

If I can think of more McGuyvery tips I'll post them later.

I am guessing by a lot of posts here that no one was watching the news in Houston after Harvey went through. Things are still far from "back to normal". Edited to add. Yes, two different storms and scenarios, but impacts will be felt. Can the infrastructure handle the wind and rain and have no issues? For some odd reason, people are acting like once the storm blows by, all will be well. So far from the truth as impacts will be around for a while.

Central FL is not immune to damage from Hurricanes. It has happened before and it took time to get things back in order. This is going to impact Orlando and vicinity for more than a few days, sorry to say. I'd be very leery of going to WDW for much of September into October and that is if the impacts are minimal.

Great advice, didn't see it the first time but if I had you would have gotten two likes!

Just saying, people can also drink water out of the taps.

I think they tell you to stock up on water because tap water can stop or become undrinkable. Obviously in a disney room you can't boil it. At home you might not have power to boil it.

I have decided to leave the moderation of this thread to others.
I want to remind posters that the "ignore" option is available for those troll posters that don't contribute at all to this thread
Also the report option is available and another moderator or webmasters will take care of it
As for me, I'll be checking into AoA tomorrow with my family, live streaming from dhs and mk tomorrow then from the resort on Sunday and Monday as long as is safe to do so.

For those riding this out at a Disney Resort, bear in mind that you may be in your room for 24-48 hours. I keep reading (not just here, on Facebook too) about activities in the lobby, characters, etc. That will definitely be something they try to do if they can, but at some point you will be confined to your room. Just make sure you have food, water, and activities so the kids don't go stir crazy. I would plan for enough supplies for 48 hours; better to be way overstocked than understocked.

Do you actually think that any of the resorts are going to be even close to partially staffed? People are NOT going to come in to work to cater to Club level or any level of traditional Disney service, this is a natural disaster ! Why can't Disney control the weather right?

I sat out a Hurricane in 1999 in Ft. Lauderdale that briefly hit a Cat 2 status. Lots of rain, but swept on by and out to sea quickly. Very minimal impact to anything as it stayed offshore and just disrupted things for a day or 2. This storm is planning on churning up the center of the state. Lots of rain, Lots of wind and over multiple days. Peoples lives are going to be impacted for quite some time and it will be far from "business as usual" after the storm. Why anyone would want to be in the middle of a natural disaster by choice is beyond me. 1st world problems I guess.

No I do not believe nor do I think resorts should be fully staffed and expected to provide "tradional" services in this situation. I was only attempting to "lighten up" some of the really snarky and nasty posts I am seeing on this and some of the other threads.

Well I cancelled my upcoming trip. We were supposed to arrive early Thursday morning. The hurricane may be gone by then but all the after effects will be in place. It is probably best if I try to reschedule. We were going to do HHN at Universal and MNSSHP at Disney, so I'm pretty sad about that. I hope the storm isn't as rough as it can be, but it is not looking good.

I follow the Facebook page and am anxious to see your video! Stay safe.

Yes, that is why I am asking the question. As someone who had the choice of either leaving early and abandoning my 21 year old daughter to deal with this on her own or staying here with her and trying to quell both her fears and my own, I'd appreciate a constructive answer rather than a statement of the obvious.

And at a resort like SSR, also somewhat difficult to do logistically since the rooms are all located away from the Carriage House. Some quite far away.

Wow what happened staying there next month

It is posted here buried in this thread, but a short summary basically told us we couldn't stay didn't even bother to check availability at BLT or any resort.

Eventually another guest offer us her room and they wanted $100 a night more. Thankfully our hotel in universal was more than happy to help out.

I think I am done here as well...stay safe!

Spending a second day trying to get through to guest services....hoping I am successful at keeping my free dining plan and moving the trip to Wednesday or Thursday. Hopefully everything will be okay by then! Has anyone else had any luck with keeping their plan? I see a few have and a few have not. Wonder what makes the difference? Does anyone know if they will waive the $200 cancellation fee yet?
The main reason is they dates they are moving their trip to

Our trip is scheduled for Sept 17-22. I see that Jet Blue has now extended flight changes thru Sept 17. We are in Virginia which has now declared a state of emergency. Not sure what to do now.
