Official 2017 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Thread

I'm not quiet sure how I missed it but I just realized today for the first time that the infamous for this race Ball Hill is no longer on the course:

If there was anything to like about "Ball Hill" is that it was fairly early in the course and then pretty much flat the rest of the way. This year, the freeway overpass that you have to climb is around the 10 1/2 mile mark. Also, since we are running Angel Stadium backwards from what we usually do, I'm guessing that we have to make our way up the much steeper exit out of the stadium beyond the right field wall. Yikes! That said, I'm looking forward to a slightly different course this year. Hopefully, we won't all melt while doing it!

I think I'm more cranky about the weather then normal because my birthday's Saturday. And I would rather not spend all day cooped up in a hotel because of the heat. I might end up saying screw the heat and go to the parks anyway...

Any one think RD will cut the races short with this weather, especially the half?

Why would they? If they start at 5 am for the first corral, the last corral probably would start at 6 am. The minimum pace at 16 min per mile from the last runner to start, would mean 3:30 or lower for the half. That probably would be around 9:40 am... call it 10:00 am. The sun will be out and it won't be pleasant but it won't be dreadful at 10:00am. It may be dreadful for the people in endanger of being swept... but nothing that should cause rundisney to do anything for the course.

I would expect this race to be tough for people who are borderline pace... and the weather could be the breaking factor on finishing. I would predict that this race will have a higher percentage of sweeps than past races... with suspicion of rundisney wanting to open the roads on time and probably being more strict on pace requirements and the weather.

My birthday is Saturday as well! :cool1::cool1::earsboy:

I'm only doing the Half this time around. I'm from the middle of the country so the humidity is a killer! Running at higher temps with lower humidity will be nice

I don't think a Disneyland race has ever gone full black flag. I know once or twice we've had red. I think they will only shorten or elevate the warning status if the morning is too hot.

The one big advantage of the early start is that sunrise isn't almost until 6:30. So that's an hour to an hour and a half on the course on the start depending on the corral. I think it will have to be an exceptionally hot morning to get cancelled.

Also the flag system for those who don't know here is Disneys:

Actual temperature to colors varies per race. I did PeachTree this year in Red. So I'm not overly concerned about being able to handle it. Most Disney events are green flag (which I couldn't squeeze in). My guess is we are going to be at min a yellow flag most likely a red through the weekend.

I'm actually kind of surprised that rD hasn't made a post about monitoring the weather yet. This is unusually hot for this race weekend.

Hey Everyone! Am I blind? I tried looking at the Event Guide to see which hotels are offering some type of shuttle on Race Day, but didn't see anything ... can someone point me in the right direction (if such a list even exists! I know last year I stayed at Embassy and they offered a shuttle ...)

Disneyland uses the ART shuttles if you aren't on property. Look up the map if you want to see for yourself but most hotels will just tell you where to go to catch it and the bus driver will tell you what stop to go to, when your wanting to come back, as you get off. Usually they start running around 3-3:30 on race morning.

Anyone staying at Disneyland Hotel wanna go in on a half-day pool cabana with me?? :rotfl2:

I'm off property sadly or else I would consider it.

My attempt for the sub 2:30 is quickly being abandoned. Each day as we get closer it's getting hotter.

Really really upset. :(

Going by the hourly for tomorrow, it should still be in the mid 70s for much of the race since we start at 5. Sunrise is at 6:30, so that should give you 75 minutes without the sun!

Positive thoughts!

Same! As much as a PR would be nice and help for my Dopey corral, this is my first run at DL and if it's going to be super hot with low likelihood of hitting that time, I'd rather take a little time to enjoy the run. I'll definitely do that for the 10k to conserve energy.

Just saw Keels post. Maybe I'll be motivated to go faster so that I can get done before it gets too hot!

Alright runners! Please help me calm my fears because I am freaking out right now.

I registered for the Half Marathon myself and I have a receipt showing I registered under my name and all my Active registrations say the race is registered for me, but now all the participant information is under my husband! I brought the Spectator Viewing Party for him about a month ago and it changed all my registrations for the race to his name! Back when I original checked for the waiver it was under me but now it's under my husband with him listed as the participant and his birthday!:sad::sad: Help!

Oh my...all my registrations are now under his name and my results are under his name too for all the races I've run!

Yeah - that's an Active issue because you bought the viewing party on your account under his name instead of his own account.

First: go into your account and change your account info back to you.

2. Print out your registration email AND receipt and bring those with you, or save them in your inbox on your phone to show.

III. Email WDWSportsRegistration@disney.com ASAP and tell them what's up.

D. You *may* have to go to Runner Relations, but if you send an email maybe they can get a heads up and be ready for you.

This happened to me at Princess last year and it was no problemo. My 5K bib said Joe on it but they offered to give me a new blank bib but I just ended up keeping the one I had ... and my GSC bib said my name on it but had his name, 43 and male on my timing chip - but it was listed as me in the results computer, so it ended up being a funny thing to look back on but it REALLLLLLLYYYYY stressed me out until I had my bib in hand.

I'm glad it happened to someone else too, well not glad you had to go through that! I email both rundisney and dl.rundisney, so should I email that email as well? I spoke to someone at active and then said they can't do anything because all runDisney registrations are linked, so I called runDisney who said it's too close to the race and I'll need to go to runner relations. I printed out the registration emails, receipts, and screenshots of what's on Active. I already changed all my information back to me

That email is the only email that has an actual person attached to it! They handle all registration issues.
