Christmas at Animal Kingdom Lodge versus Contemporary Resort

My DH and I are traveling to Disney for our 10th wedding anniversary. We are currently booked in at Animal Kingdom Lodge (where we stayed for our honeymoon) in a savanna view room. I've never stayed at the Contemporary Resort and my husband has always wanted to stay there.

I have two questions, which hotel is better at Christmastime? I've seen Animal Kingdom Lodge at Christmas and the lobby is stunning.

The second, is the theme park view as good as I hope it to be? Thank you!

Totally depends on you and your tastes. The Contemporary has a very modern Christmas feel... it's gorgeous! The theme park view can be fantastic. AKL is our favorite hotel... their Christmas is obviously African inspired but still very pretty. Given it's an anniversary trip and you stayed at AKL on your honeymoon, I'd opt for AKL just for nostalgic purposes. Regardless, you can't go wrong! Both resorts are stunning and I cannot deny the amazing location of the Contemporary!

CR typically has a giant gingerbread display, but as PP pointed out, CR has a very different, obviously "contemporary" feel. Are you going during Christmas week? If so, I would do CR for location alone as it will considerably cut down on travel time to MK and EP. I can't stress how bad traffic is that week even for Disney buses. If you are going before the actual Christmas week, I would say AKL will always have a more stunning lobby with or without holiday decor. Another advantage of CR is you can easily hop to GF, Poly, WL and Ft. W to see their Christmas decor as well.

I would say CR in a TPV in the main tower if there is availability since you have never stayed. There is something magical about being so close to the MK. You can walk to the MK. And, you have the electrical water pageant. Plus, there is just something about the monorail passing through it and taking it to MK. And more restaurant choices between the ones there and the resorts you can easily get to by boat or monorail.

Good choice! We're going in December too and I have rack rate CL at AKL. I was looking for deals and I found a discounted YC CL but I couldn't pull the trigger because I really want to be AKL at Christmas.

I can tell you from experience, the music at AKL becomes grating after a while. LOL
However, the hotel itself is gorgeous.
