Everthing you wanted to know about Uber/Lyft at WDW

Can you be dropped off at the Contemporary if you don't have a reservation (resort or dining)? I saw this statement on the first post -
"Dropping guests at resorts is also easy, but you still must be staying there or have a dining reservation."
Yes, a few times, Disney Security has asked for the rider's Magic Band, but it's never happened at CR, & so far I've never been turned back.

Car sears may be available in UberX or UberXL vehicles. After you enter your destination in the app, the vehicle selection appears at the bottom of the screen. Slide the selection to the left to see the car seat options.

Car seats are available only on trips originating in a tourist corridor running from the Disney area to Universal, including Sea World and I-Drive, and also specifically at the Florida Mall and OIA; some off-site "Disney area" resorts are not within the corridor. The car seats are not intended for infants under 1 year old. Only 1 car seat is available per car.

As to availability, I can't speak firsthand, but you should expect a longer wait time, and there have been reports of car seats not being available at times. I just checked availability at Epcot as a test, and the app showed no UberX available with car seat, and a 15 minute wait for an UberXL with car seat.
I'm a little confused about this. Is it possible to get uber that has car seat available from port Orleans to contemporary resort or magic kingdom?

Possible? Yes. You must request it specifically when you request the car. It's a special class of vehicle. They are fewer, more expensive and only in limited areas (WDW area is 1 of them they are in). And you'll most likely have an increased wait time

Some of this is correct, some is incorrect -- and you're citing one news story from Milwaukee, WI (which has nothing to do with Florida law or requirements) and another old story speculating on proposals for a law which have already been refined, passed by both houses of the Florida Legislature, and signed into law by the Governor!

But ALL of it is irrelevant for DISmembers considering transportation options at WDW...which is the purpose of this thread.

You're offering the same tired arguments that have been rejected by the Florida Legislature. They might be relevant in a debate between taxi drivers and rideshare drivers, but collision insurance means absolutely nothing for WDW guests. They are not responsible for repairing vehicles they ride in!

If WDW guests use Uber or Lyft, they are fully covered for $1 million, and they will have a driver who has met all of the stringent requirements of both the State of Florida and the TNC companies' own requirements.

1) according to the Florida State government it hasn't been signed yet. It didn't pass the House until April 5 and the Senate until the the 17th. Did the governor sign it without telling anyone?

2) thankfully there are people in this world that do care about other people and their safety and their ability to provide for themselves.

It was actually passed by the Senate on April 19th, and that date is important as explained below.

Gov Scott announced that he looked forward to signing the bill, but I can't find any actual announcement of the signing. The link you provided only tracks bills within the Legislature -- it does not reflect signings or vetoes.

In any event, if Scott hasn't signed it yet, it becomes law tomorrow without his signature. The governor has 15 days to sign or veto; tomorrow is 15 days from April 19th. If he does neither, the bill becomes law automatically.

So either way, the new law will go into effect on July 1, 2017 -- and that is a big win for consumers.

Ok ridesharerob. I know I can pre book uber for pickups. I know I have 2 early ADRs. One is 5/13 at contemporary the other is 5/16 @ poly. We are staying at Coronado. I'll want pickups at 6:30 ish. Do I need to pre book or will I have great luck doing it that morning? Thanks in advance.

Rob and Joel both know the Orlando market very well and can answer the availability question for you -- and of course, you know you will be able to see available Uber vehicles on your app prior to requesting.

Personally, I don't think there is any point in "pre-scheduling" through Uber or Lyft. All that really means is that your request will be programmed for dispatch a short time before you thought you would be ready for pickup. Two problems with that:
  1. The actual ride request may go to the driver somewhat earlier, resulting in them either having to wait, or canceling. I personally had this happen with Lyft, resulting in an extended wait.
  2. In the real world, you may not actually be ready for pickup when you thought you'd be, with the same results as #1.
There is a relatively new service that hooks up to both Uber and Lyft drivers and allows for real pre-scheduling with a specific driver. The service IS available in the Orlando market, but I do not know how many drivers are using it yet.

This service takes your pickup request, circulates it to participating drivers for either Uber or Lyft, and then interested drivers can accept the scheduling and work out the details with you. All rides are done on the Uber/Lyft app, so you're fully covered by insurance, pay normally through the Uber/Lyft app, and can use any Uber/Lyft discounts/promotions you might have.

The service is called Uzurv (uzurv.com) and it allows you to review pictures of the vehicles, driver profiles, and actually contact the driver directly to make arrangements if you choose. It also offers the option of pre-arranging an "incentive" for the driver to take the ride -- in other words, a pre-agreed tip. There is also a capability to "chat" with the driver directly at any point in the process. There is a fee to both the driver and rider for this service (currently $.99), but there may be promotions available.

Frankly, for a ride from a Disney resort to a Disney park, I really don't think you'd need to pre-schedule -- but I will certainly defer to the local experts on that.

If you do want to set up a real appointment, Uzurv provides that capability.

Thank you so much!
I'm looking at doing this for a ride back to our resort following the private Dis party at Epcot. It will be 1:00 AM and I wasn't sure how many other guests would opt to use the service vs. arranging to use one of the buses. I'm going to at least check that link out and get my account set up

You're welcome. Just be aware that everything is processed normally through the rideshare app of your choice, so the normal fares will apply -- including surge pricing if they are slammed. I have no idea whether WDW surges or not, but Uber/Lyft rates are so low there it may not matter.

They do have it but yeah, they are so low it won't matter if they do surge. In all our trips we've only seen it 1 time.

We used Uber and Lyft this last trip, both times with excellent results. Both were late nights as parks were closing, or just after. When leaving MK (on Saturday night) about 10:30pm we had surge pricing. Cost us $15 to go from MK to Pop Century. I don't know what the normal price is - the online estimater says $8-$11. The second time we tried Lyft because I had a discount code. Leaving Beach Club to Pop about 11pm on Monday night. Cost was $6, but we paid $1 after discount.

Drivers were both very nice. Neither spoke English very well, but were polite and could get the point across. Both drove safely and their cars were clean. I tipped them both!

I have only ever used Disney's bus transport so never paid attention to any other areas. So it sounds like basically, i should head towards the parking lots for each park (wherever that may be), NOT towards the buses, correct? Just want a general idea on where I will be going if I want to uber it home vs. taking the buses.

The pick up for them is near the taxi stands at the parks
Some are in the same general area as the buses and some aren't.
Epcot is sort of right in the middle of the buses
AK is opposite of the buses, closer to where the tram picks up
HS is down past the buses, rather remotely located in an area you access by walking between the 2 parking lots
Not sure where TTC pick up is located, never used it

TTC pickup is at the back of the taxi area. We used it :)

getting closer to august...
2 people (in our group of 8) are going from SSR to Universal on a weekday (they're only going once to see HP...)

at what time should they be picked up from SSR to get to universal no later than 7:30 AM (again, this will be on a weekday)
and how much will it cost from SSR to universal...

thanks in advance!!

We used Uber on our last trip. We stayed at the Home 2 Suites out near the Vineland Premium Outlet Mall and my DH had to stay back in the room and work on Friday morning. My DD and I took an Uber into Epcot that morning and my DH drove there later on. It was incredibly cheap, only $11 from all the way at the Outlet Mall to Epcot, and our driver was very nice. I made sure to have a couple of dollars in cash with me so I could tip. I know that tip is "included" but if I have someone really nice with a nice car I'm happy to tip a couple of dollars more.

I know that tip is "included" ...
:rotfl2:No Robin! A tip is most certainly NOT included -- and never has been! That's a myth that was spread early in ridesharing history, and has persisted ever since.

If you are riding X in Orlando, your fare calculation is $.65 per mile plus about $.10 per minute. Your driver gets paid 75% of that -- nothing more.

Using the per-mile fare + time, your fare would have been a tiny bit less than $10. You probably had an Uber Upfront Pricing fare -- which is a bit more than regular -- but the driver would only have received $7.40. You can check for yourself using RideGuru.
