******Official 2017 Free Dining Plan Watch, Wait, and Dream

So I booked a new ressie with free dining at Pop. I managed to finally cancel my original Pop reservation made approximately one month ago (the website wouldn't let me modify). The question I have is, how long before I get an e-mail confirming my cancellation? It would be nice to know that my deposit will be set to be returned to my credit card.8-)
Just bumping this up to see if there are any answers out there.

so this is the first time I have ever booked ahead and then had to modify my reservations. I can tell you that it wasn't very fun for me and i'll probably not do it again. The stress of wondering if I'm saving vs. trying to compete with everyone else is just a little too much for me. now don't get me wrong...come DDR time, i'll be taking that day off, same for FP. just don't know that I really benefited by booking early.

We were booked in WL for 11/12-11-18 with no hopper but DDP included at regular price. I needed only to change our date to 11/14 but was out of luck. I tried calling Disney since 0700 and couldn't get through. I could see other rooms at WL were available but it would cost me more money than I had already booked from the beginning. Oh and I was able to change everything online instead of calling.

I went searching and found that CBR was available but I had to book 11/14-11/20 for a difference of -$337.83. So I had to change my vacation to delay starting by 2 days, I added an extra day at the end, and had to change the resort but I got money back.

This has me staying into the week of Thanksgiving and I'm kinda worried! Are the crowds going to be outrageous since my last day there will be the last day to get free dining before TG?

If your wondering, we usually like doing the DDP because my son likes the characters. this will probably be out last year doing the character meals so that's why I upgraded it.

@KimBean I started a new 2018 thread for free dining. It would be awesome if you would come and save a post on the first page so that you can post stuff for next year.

You could be right, but I don't necessarily agree. FD is still an awesome deal for folks staying at Value resorts.

I agree that the old offer pushed people to Moderates as the cost to upgrade the QS plan to the DDP was about the same as the cost to upgrade resort levels from Value to Moderate. Essentially you got Value resort pricing with the DDP while staying in a Moderate. But the Moderate resorts fill themselves now, even during slower times of the year. They need to fill Values and Deluxes during those times of the year. The best way to fill a Deluxe is with a room discount. The best way to fill Values is with dining and/or ticket discount packages since a room discount represents such a small portion of the overall WDW cost.

Will FD end? Maybe. But there will always be some sort of discount better than RO for Values during really slow times of the year. If there is not, those resort rooms will sit empty. Maybe some variation of the SPD offer, or buy 4 nights get 3 free. There will be something.

Yes that's what I said in my first post... if you were going to stay at a Value and do Quick Service anyway, it's great.
There may always be some kind of variation of Free Dining, but it won't be what it was before. They might as well call it something else, but of course Free Dining gets the attention :)

ok i just had to do a 2nd reservation to take advantage of the disney visa offer. It wasn't showing in my mde and i had a pkg with tix (from disney) So I cancelled the 1st reservation so that will get refunded? I don't have double tix do I?

If you canceled your first reservation, whatever you paid on deposit will be refunded to however you paid it (Visa, gift card, etc) and you will only have the tickets/reservation for your second reservation - so there shouldn't be any doubles.

I had a "double" reservation for a few minutes while I waited to get my confirmation emails from my new reservations (for RO and Free Dining). Once those were confirmed, I cancelled my original and I only have one set of tickets now.

Question? If 1st reservation had a package with tix and is cancelled. Eventually refunded the original $200 and
The tix are not double purchased are they when booking a 2nd pkg?

They literally have nothing available for a family of 5 for free dining. :(
i'm there with you; there was nothing available at CBR this morning either so I was not able to modify my res on the computer or by phone; to top it all off I can't sleep either even though I was up all night; maybe we both need some pixie dust

We were supposed to stay at FW cabin, because I assumed staying at a mod would get us DDP. My kids were never that psyched about the cabins though, so they were thrilled that we switched to AoA, because that's where they originally wanted to stay. I had to stay 11 nights to get FD for some reason though, any less and it said "dates not available"

I just wanted to update. I stayed up because I doubted my TA. I needed the early visa dates and it took me a few minutes to find the site to book through the visa and by the time I found it, she had already got it for me. She was great. Definitely no worries of ever using her again. I should have just went to sleep and let her do it, but I was just too nervous. Next vacation, I'll let her take the lead.

Sending pixie dust your way! Hopefully after a few days or weeks this will settle down and more availability will open up. I know in 2015 there was no availability anywhere for free dining the day it dropped but a couple of weeks later it was available for almost everything. Praying that happens this time. Good luck!

We just did this at 5 this morning. Did not get a cancellation notice because our old reservation was morphed into our new one, and the old just disappeared from my Disney Experience about 5 hours later.

OKAY THANK YOU!
I was nervous to buy a 2nd reservation, since it was buying another "package" but this one had dining with the visa offe my group of tix once on MDE, but wanted to ask here, been on phone forever trying to make sure, but I couldn't wait to find out to make sure. Thanks again! :)

Looks like i got some Pixie Dust:yay:

Oh my what a morning! I was on the phone for 4 hrs! Had to end up waiting on hold twice and finally spoke with guest services. She fixed the issue and said my reservation number would stay the same. However when i pull up MDE i dont see the reservation and so I tried to link it and it can't find the number. What do I do now? I have been up since yesterday .

Does anybody Know?

So I couldn't get anything for my dates at Contemporary. I added two days and I could book it. Garden View. I just tried to edit it to take the two days off and it looks like I will lose the FD deal. If I call can they take it off without me loosing the promotion. Help please!!! I read on here that this might be possible, so I grabbed it, may now I may have to let it go
