Just trying to compare the drops in Splash and TOT. My family has never been on TOT but my 9 year old is leading the charge in wanting to try it! :scared1: Is it similar to any other ride drop? Is it more or less intense than the last drop in Splash? I've seen some videos on YouTube but it's hard to tell what the drops are like.

It's a different kind of drop - it's straight up and down and somewhat controlled compared to Splash Mountain. There's no abrupt stops and the whole thing feels a bit like a yo-yo and very smooth. There will also be multiple drops one right after the other but I felt that the first one was the most intense and the others felt like a swing.

If you can handle the drop on Splash I think you can handle ToT.

I am always surprised how child-friendly Splash Mountain is until you reach the last dip! What a contrast. Both Splash Mountain and TOT make my stomach turn over (in an exciting way) but TOT is repeated several times. TOT is one of our favourite rides and a must-do for us every time we visit HS. Do it before the rumours become a reality and you are no longer entering 'the twilight zone'!!

The drop on splash is nothing compared to the drops on ToT.

When you're looking at Splash the drop seems super high and really steep. Then when you go down it, it's over in 2 seconds and not bad at all. It looks a lot scarier than it really is.

ToT is being pulled straight down then shot back up over and over. You can't see how far you're dropping and it's directly down so it's not at an angle like Splash, so I'd rate it a lot more intense.

I like the feeling of my stomach dropping..Splash hardly gives me that feeling, if any at all. ToT does a good job at providing that feeling over and over. ToT is the far better ride imo, and I'd say easily 2-3 times more intense.

I can't really think of a comparable experience except for other drop rides. It's a drop ride and they are a different feeling than a coaster because you stay in the same orientation for the fall that is straight down. Splash is just a coaster when it comes to the drop so it's more like a step hill. Even the mega tall coasters you don't stay in the same position for the climb and fall so it's just not the same.

If you are ok riding splash or any coaster with a drop, you should do very well on ToT. It's just a really fast elevator that goes up and down while your sitting with a seat belt on a few times for varying distances that the computer picks randomly for each run. It's more the anxiety and adrenaline than the drop that you feel. when I go by the time we're back up for the second drop, I'm trying to actually look outside to get a good view than worried about the next drop.

When I talk to unfamiliar folks (especially kids,) I use the analogy of a frog hopper like you might find at a fair (or our local zoo!) ... except bigger, for grown ups. That's the best comparison I can come up with.

If you're not petrified of drops, give it a shot. Worst case, it's one & done!

I would rate it as a fair bit more intense than Splash. But I agree with others above, it's just very different and difficult to compare unless you've been on another drop right before.

That said, Splash and Tower of Terror are my two favorites rides at WDW -- NOT for the thrill factor, but for their excellent, immersive themes. Splash has so much heart, and ToT is just downright fun! Seriously, it's worth braving it to see if you and your family like it. There is definitely a thrill factor, but when I took my family for the first time we all ended up screaming and laughing our heads off. and then we went again. :)

My DD10 loves ToT! She was 4 the first 9 times she went on in the same trip. I hate drops but at least I'm strapped in!

I can definitely do Splash - I did TOT once and that was enough for me. It's Splash's drop on steroids.

I have no problems with Splash. I absolutely hate the drops on ToT. I spend the entire drop part hunched down in my seat clutching the rail. I think enjoyment of ToT totally depends on whether you like the feeling of your stomach dropping. I really don't like that feeling. Other people love it.

My son (22 now), every since he was teenager HATED TofT and we had to coax him to ride with us. He can ride splash mountain with no problem and consider all the rides "baby rides" in WDW except for TofT. He can ride big/fast/twisting rollercoasters in Magic Mountain with no problem (which I'm scared to ride) but hates TofT which our family still can't figure it out.

If you are only comparing the drops, as others have pointed out, there will be many drops on Twilight Zone where there's only one on Splash Mountain. On Twilight Zone, the drops are in the dark and you don't know how many or how long. With Splash you can see the drop on your way to the attraction so no surprises.

But aside from the drops on Twilight Zone, I feel the entire experience is just very well done and suspenseful so even when I had to sit out the drops for a few years, I just went on it and took the special elevator out because I think the entire thing is an attraction, not just the drops.

I hate big drops. TOT is definitely more intense than Splash Mountain. I hated it, but made it through, so i'd do it again. Go for it. :)

Thank you for the replies! Pretty much what I thought! We are just going to have to experience it to know for ourselves! :earsboy:

My then 5y/o loved ToT. Me? Not so much, but it's not awful. I would not choose to go on it again, but I won't refuse to ride with her when we go again. Dinosaur is the only WDW ride I flat-out refuse to ride again.

It just goes to show that it takes all sorts in this world as ToT and Dinosaur are must do's for me. My 'nightmare' ride is Primeval Whirl. I am made to ride both sides each year, the things we do for our loved ones eh?

I agree that they are completely Kinds of drops. I do not like the "face first" drops of most roller coaster where you feel like you might fall out of the car. TOT does not bother me at all. The straight up and down is a different feeling.

Love Splash, hated ToT, but kids loved it(10 and 13 at the time). To me, it was terrifying dropping in the dark, several times, not knowing when it was going to end, and how far you'd drop each time - I think we dropped 5 times, the first almost all the way down, then random. I can say I have done it, and kids are teens now who can ride alone! Splash is a gradual build up with mini drops to the big one, which is fast, and I love it! No comparison in my experience.

Not even remotely comparable, IMO.

Splash Mountain is a sloping, angled drop in an outdoor setting.

ToT is a repeating free fall in pitch darkness.

If you've never experienced a free fall type attraction I don't think there's any good way to describe it, but definitely not by comparing to a ride like Splash.
