Resort Survey ... on Resort Fees

I just booked a 3 night stay at a local casino. The room was $600 not too bad since a days inn was the same price, and then I book the room and bam it's 25% more due to resort fees and tax. I felt ripped off truthfully., why not just charge it in the room rate...like my airline ticket I just bought. Jet blue had 102 one way....the ticket was 76 and the rest tax and fee. But at least I know that $102 is my final price not $300 once I pressed buy.

Then I come on here and see Disney might do the same thing.

So glad I own DVC.... We pay a yearly due. No bill at end of our
Trip, no 13% room tax, no charge for each adult over 2 staying in your room.....we get a full kitchen which saves us tons on their overpriced food.

But look at what convenience does. The DDP has RUINED the restaurants and made the cost of food sky rocket. Ate at flame tree BBQ...$14 for 1/2 chicken and they wouldn't sub ff for baked beans...really?? And the chicken was tiny and over cooked......and took an 1/2 hour to get it. Total rip off, but hey, nobody cares because they paid for the DDP and don't have to deal with the prices when it only cost a lunch or TS credit.

Just got back and with all the ride rehabs, it's really sad...2 out of 3 of the best rides in Epcot closed. Ak and studios a half day park now......MK so over crowded....

Again DVC is looking like a great purchase..I can make $2440 a year off it after paying my dues renting my points and NOT going to the most overpriced place in the world.

Now would WALT be happy with how prices are so out of control.

We can't even buy non expiration since ticket anymore, and no the tickets have to be used by end of the next year. There is no way to hedge your cost. But hey charge it and they will come.

I would be interested in seeing the question with answers, as well as other survey questions just to gauge the context this was asked (is it a marketing spiel wording question? a how likely would you re-visit question?).

I agree, I'd like to see it. Someone on Facebook posted that the survey they saw had the question would you prefer a flat resort fee or being charged a la carte for services. A la carte would make more sense, only pay if you use them. On the other hand, the charges individually could add up to more than the flat fee. For example, Magical Express could be per person.

To be fair in the not too distant past airlines were just like this..see price then go to buy and then you see all the added fees and taxes several pages in. That's why a law was enacted, at least in the U.S., where airlines have to be more honest with the price they listed so a consumer can see more of what the price actually is when looking at the first page.

Now when I book SWA it's $278 (just using an upcoming trip as an example)total inclusive of taxes and fees instead of $X base amount PLUS the following which used to be shown basically at the end of your booking:

Fares include:
  • Excise Taxes, including:
    • 7.5% of Base Fare for domestic travel within the Continental United States
    • U.S. Transportation Tax of $17.80 each way for travel between the Continental United States and Puerto Rico
  • Federal segment fee of $4.00 that will be imposed on each flight segment. Flight segment is defined as a takeoff and a landing.
  • Government-imposed September 11th Security Fee of $5.60 per one-way trip.
  • Airport assessed Passenger Facility Charges (PFCs) of up to $18.

What is the actual question?

What is the actual question?
its likely something along the lines of how likely are you to stay at a Walt Disney World resort if they had a resort fee. I would not stay. Not likely to stay. Doesn't change my opinion. More likely to stay. Will stay for sure.

Have to say, if they started charging for those perks separately per day, i'd go and stay over at universal. We nearly booked Cabana Bay for this years trip as it was almost half the price of Disney but last minute changed

My general reaction to this is a big yawn, since most people are generally going to look at the total cost of the room and not just the base rate. .

This would be cool but every resort fee I've ever encountered, including every hotel on the strip in Las Vegas, adds it once you arrive. So it's like one last punch in the gut-wallet. I've never seen it added to your total online bill. Just small print saying you have to pay a daily resort fee once you arrive.

Resort fee + parking fee, (and we all know that one is coming as well)= $35-$45 extra per night of your vacation.

I've never encountered that so I'm not sure how I would react to it. It would probably depend on how prominent the disclosure of the fee was at the time I booked.

I'm really not worried about that with Disney, at least for myself. Any resort fee they imposed would be discussed so openly on the Dis and other social media, if not general news media, I'm sure I, and other avid followers of Disney, would know about it.

Take NewYorkNewYork.com (A Vegas, MGM owned hotel on the strip). Go to Book A Room. When you click your dates the main nightly cost comes up huge and colored. The part about resort fee of $33.60 per day is very small and see through. This is a common thing with resort fees. I can't recall any in my experience that are in your face with the resort fee. It's sad that resort fees generally aren't optional either. I never use the gym or wifi yet I always pay for it. I don't know where I'm going with this other than I really hope they don't implement resort fees. Resort fees are my biggest pet peeve with Las Vegas. Even in Las Vegas when you think you are getting a great deal on a hotel for $90 a night, it's really $120ish per night. I am sure WDW wouldn't leave their resort fees at just $15.

I sort of understand a fee for magic bands. I don't think they thought that process out well - a band for every stay? Seems like a huge waste of money.

I don't understand the fee for ME. I always thought the entire purpose of ME was to get people on property without having them rent a car. Without a rental car, they made it harder for guests to leave and spend their money elsewhere (Universal).

It seems like if they charge for this privilege people would look elsewhere/off-site:confused3 and potentially spend less money at WDW since they would now have an easier method of visiting another park.

You know, this may actually entice us to stay off property. We've looked at the Waldorf several times because the rooms are bigger and nicer than the Disney deluxe resorts, but with parking fees & resort fees, Disney came out slightly cheaper on a room discount. This may irritate me to the point of jumping over to the FS or Waldorf. Because it's not like they're going to lower the already ridiculous room rates to balance out the resort fee...

There is a big element of bait and switch here:

They make this big change over to MB's and FP+ and MM+ etc, and hype it for all its benefits despite considerable resistance, and then a couple years later they start charging for it ?

Not to mention most of the stuff they are including in the "resort fee" are things they used to say justified the increased prices you pay to stay at a WDW resort. There is already a resort fee, its built into the price you pay !

I would stop staying at Disney if they do it..funny, just was planning a trip last week! The whole point is their resorts are now astronomically expensive for what you get compared to what you can get off property. If parking and amenities aren't included in their high prices, it's no longer worth it. Hope they don't do it...would ruin our plans

So, we now have to plan our every activity and meal months in advance, base our choices on available tiers, ever-rising admission and room rates, and now the possibility of extra resort fees. WDW is getting way too complicated and expensive to be an enjoyable vacation.

I agree, my once carefree, fantasy vacation has turned into work. The older I get, the harder it is to deal with. When I purchased DVC (not every trip is covered by my DVC points) I stopped being a park commando, but recent changes have caused me stress. You can't just decide that today you will go to whatever park, or today I feel like sleeping in and hanging by the pool. Dining reservations made months in advance and secured with $10 per person on my credit card, and fast passes made 60 days ago have taken that opportunity away. I mean, I still love the place, but I'm having a stressful time with planning, which I used to love. I've endured considerable teasing about the amount of planning I always did for my Disney vacation, but I took it in stride, now even I'm stressing about it.
