The Everything Pooh Sized Thread

For glasses, I have a cute little glasses strap with small mickey heads on them (that I got at WDW) that I only use at theme parks. They aren't the sport ones that hold them tight, but I feel confident that should they fly off my face, they'll at least just drop around my neck. If a ride is super crazy or I think they could go up and over my head (like Tower of Terror), I do like a pp and take them off, leaving the strap around my neck, but fold them shut and drop them inside my shirt. Better blurry then out a pair of $300 glasses. :D

Hi All!
First off I just want to say that I am sooo thankful I found this board. I have been reading it like a novel you just can’t put down.
My daughter and I are planning a trip, a week in Orlando in October. 1 day in Universal to see HPW and 4 days at the World. I am so freakin excited I can’t think straight and have to remind myself that I still have to work until then and just live life, clean the house, etc. LOL It has been 24 years since I have been, my daughter was 4 and she doesn’t remember anything. I was pretty much the same size then as I am now (Lost it all, gained it back), size 26 298 pds but I have been doing a popular “pink drink” diet since march that I won’t name but have lost around 40 pounds and plan to try to lose another 20 before we go. I know that it still won’t be enough for me not to have issues with chaffing, my feet, walking etc. I really hope I fit into the rides at HPW but know that I won’t have issues fitting at DW cause well, I have done it before at this size. I plan to wear my New Balance walking shoes I got few months back. I have taken your words to heart and gone and purchased Bodyglide and plan to also look for Monistat Chaffing Gel and Lanacane gel. (I aint playin about this! LOL I am taking it all) I have gotten band aids and mole skin also. I really hope it is enough and the excitement of being at the happiest place on earth will override any discomfort with my feet. Last time I didn’t have much trouble but I was 20 years younger!
But, got my wardrobe (Capri’s and cotton tops), new balance tennis shoes and am already stocking up on things I need and putting them in a special drawer. I guess you could say I am already packing. When that week comes all I will have to do is throw everything in a suitcase. Plan on getting moisture wicking socks like some suggested.
One thing I want to ask you guys, last time I was there I developed this swollen, red, itchy sunburny rash thing on the bottom backs of my legs just above my ankles. I went to the first aid office and they said it was called “Concrete Dermatitis” and is common in the parks. My family and I actually ran into another lady who also was having this issue and was in a wheel chair. Have any of you heard of this? Just wondering.

:welcome: Welcome to the Dis!

This has been discussed on several previous threads on other forums. Another name for this is Golfers Vasculitis. It happens with people who are walking for prolonged periods ( longer than normal for that individual) in hot weather. The blood vessels in the lower legs become inflamed, resulting in swelling and a red rash. It goes away by itself in a few days. Elevating the legs, using cold wet compresses, and possibly taking an OTC antiinflammatory like Motrin might help.

This is different than prickly heat, which is caused by blocked sweat glands and results in a raised, bumpy, intensely itchy rash.

Last time I had a pretty powerful Steroid cream that I finally used. I will take it with me this time and use it early if it starts to develop.

Well, I have looked in Walgreens and Walmart and neither one have lanacane anti chaffing gel. Is it usually located with the band aids/first aid? I have bodyglide and Monistat chaffing gel and I want to try out all three to see which works best. But so far cannot locate the Lanacane. Decided against the band aid blister block. Tiny package big price!!

I have a couple of questions about fitting on rides at Universal. I've read a bunch about HP and the FJ, Gringotts, etc., but I was wondering if anyone who is plus sized (I'm about 285, size 26/28) has ridden Flight of the Hippogryph? I think I could convince my son that we should ride it (he's not one for thrill rides anyway, and I'm not sure I'll fit on either FJ or Gringotts anyway)....but I was concerned about sizing. From what I can tell, it has a simple lap bar that comes down. Normally that isn't a problem for me. However, where the bar will stop on me will be pretty far away from my 80 lb 9 year old. Will this be a problem?

Have you ridden Goofy's Barnstormer at Disney? It is same ride track, and I find the ride vehicle fits me in a similar manner. DD and I are able to ride it together, but I find it to be an uncomfortable ride. Leg length is the problem on this one for me though.

I used Body Glide every morning but I also had a band aid blister blocker in my backpack. The fact it was tiny was actually a plus. I kept it in a tiny plastic bag in my park backpack in case I needed to reapply during a long park day.

I have been over at the universal thread and there are peps calling themselves "big girls" at a size 18 and worrying about not being able to fit on the rides. I am a size 26 300 pd lady and I wish I was an 18!! I am very worried about not fitting on fj or gringotts and I am outright depressed about it. We are only going one day to hpw so don't really mind not fitting on non hp rides. I have even watched the hp ride videos on YouTube to try to feel better about it, at least I know what I am missing. I have read the posts about the test seats and that doesn't really make me feel much better. I keep reminding myself the 4 days following hpw will be Disney then everything will be ok again. And as a note, I have been losing weight and have lost 40 pounds and have 2 and a half months left to lose more but I don't think I can lose enough to make that much of a difference. Repeating to myself, your not gonna miss THAT much and don't let 2 short rides ruin your happy place!

I was a size 24 back in 2013 when I tried to ride FJ and it didn't happen. I was horribly upset because it was the first time I had ever not fit on a ride. I don't know if they have made any changes since then, and everyone is different, so it's worth a shot with the test seats, but...whatever happens, don't let it ruin your day. Drink a butterbeer and buy a wand and have fun!! I'm a 12/14 now and still shrinking and I am DETERMINED to go back to Universal when I hit goal weight and ride that ride :thumbsup2 if you don't fit, just try your best to shake it off! There is LOTS to see there!!

Thanks for the information! DS and I have done Barnstormer together, and I was fine on that ride. I have short little legs, though, so never have trouble with leg room!

Hi, size 20 here. 5'0" and about 220 pounds, apple shaped. Am I likely to have trouble with anything? We were last there in 2012 and I was about 250 pounds then, didn't have problems, but I know there are new rides since then.

Yeah, like I said... it isn't worth getting upset over two 10 minute rides (if that). I am chirping to myself here.... There is so much there to see... I have been looking into it. My daughter and I niether one are roller coaster people so we won't be doing those. I will happily go through the que line and wait for her to ride FJ and Gringotts if I don't fit. Cause.... DISNEY WILL BE AWESOME!

Hi Guys,
This is my first trip with my 4 year old son. He is not an adventurous rider, so mostly Small World, Pooh and any other tamer rides. Are these rides friendly to larger sizes?
Thanks!

Disney is very friendly to larger sizes. Just about all of the Kid friendly rides will be ok, maybe the little door getting in/out of the ride is tight but the seat is usually ok once you are seated. There are some who have had issues with the Mine Train but that might not be an issue for you if your son won't go on it. I will say that I went with my husband and we are both bigger people and we rode it together without issues. If you are tall, don't sit in the front row of Small World, not much Leg room.

For theater shows, most of the "Tips" I have read say to sit at the edge of the seat then slide back, that makes it more comfortable in those seats with the arms.

Pull any seat-belts all the way out before sitting and pay attention to where the connector is to make it easier and faster to buckle up

Lots of other good info on this thread.

See my answer to LMRdesign above.

You will be fine, I am bigger than you and I did fine on everything.

Sandals??? I'm sure this has been discussed, but I haven't made it through reading all posts yet. I know a lot of people love the Keens sandals (specifically the Newport), but they don't come in wide width. Is there a good, supportive sandal you love that comes in wide width? I am prone to plantar fasciitis so if I am going to try a sandal, it needs to be very supportive. Normally, I wear Brooks Ariel running shoes with an insert, but I'm just worried about my feet getting too hot and wet.

Clarks sandals work the best for me and I wear a 9 Wide. But I also take breaks and alternate sneakers with them.

You should be good with the Bodyglide and Monistat anti-chaffing products. (If you really want to bring all three, look for the Lanacane brand online.)

Of the two, I liked the Monistat gel better. It dries to a light, powdery finish (which I prefer to Bodyglide). You can use the Monistat gel on your feet, as well as other areas like inner thighs, etc. Be sure to bring both with you if you go to a water park - I often get inner thigh chaffing there!

I got that lanacane anti chaffing gel from Amazon. I had never seen any before and thought I'd give it a try. Two of us Pooh-sized people used it this spring on our trip to WDW and LOVED it! I think I got some sort of package deal at Amazon that had 3 little tubes in a bundle. A tiny little bit goes a long way. We have enough left over for another trip.
