Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

I had my wife buy my shirt, I made sure it was the right one. I didnt touch it. She had it on the day of the full, and they found me at the bus stops outside DHS before the walkway towards epcot and she gave it to me then.

I had nobody to buy my goofy merch, so I took the chance and bought it beforehand, and shoved it to the bottom of a bag which I then hid in the corner of the room and did not acknowledge again til the race is done.

I broke a bigger rule though...I wore a race shirt before completing a race! The marathon shirt was the only long sleeve shirt I had that matched my costume, and I decided to take my chances with the superstition in favor of being warm! Thankfully, it all worked out in the end, but I hope to never be that desperate again haha

I did the same for the half after FREEZING during the 5K!! Couldn't help it -- I packed too light.

I break that rule all of the time. Unfortunately it is the only time that I end up wearing a lot of these shirts.

Of course the 5k shirt didn't get worn because I had no use for a short sleeved shirt that morning.

I'm more of a stickler for not trying new shoes, underwear, or food the week of a running event.

While I personally won't do it, I don't so much mind the wearing of race shirts to the race.

I don't think I specified earlier-I wore the marathon shirt for the half-I was sure I was jinxing myself! Lol

I agree with most of your other things-no new stuff! except for food....I thankfully have a stomach of steel and new things have never bothered me, which is good because I love to eat different things at Disney!

I think a lot of people ended up using the race shirts during the races due to the weather.I did for the half,I was wearing a black and red shirt with black shorts for that day so when I opened the door that morning to check how cold it was I knew I was going to put the red half marathon shirt under the other shirt,it matched and I used it like an undershirt so maybe I didn't actually break the rule since all that was showing were the sleeves.I think people needed to pay more attention to the lows when packing,I definitely under packed, did you see Jeff Galloway run one of the races in jeans due to the cold.

To start obsessing about the weather. The closer we get, the more accurate the forecast will get. Now Accuweather says low of 58, high of 75. The "morning" forecast says low of 56, high of 66. I can deal with that, but I'm hoping for it to be a little cooler. The Weather Channel and Weather Underground has it being warmer with a high of 79 and a low of 64.

I really want it to be cooler so we all can be more comfortable and I can wear a more accurate Mr. Incredible costume. If it's going to be over 60 at the start, I will have to go with black shorts instead of the red knickers and black speedo.

Were you wearing some type of yellow bandana/handkerchief over your head, with your Incredible costume? I saw a runner dressed like Mr. Incredible with that, and thought of you and wondered if it was you!

did you see Jeff Galloway run one of the races in jeans due to the cold.

I didn't see Jeff in his jeans, but we wore our flannel PJs during the entire 5k. :)

My race outfits went like this: 5k - long sleeve top, tights, flannel PJs; 10k - long sleeve shirt, shorts; half - WISH shirt, shorts, fleece hat and gloves that went on and off for the entire 13 miles; full - lightest weight and most breathable short sleeve shirt I had, shorts, red sparkle skirt. Saturday was just about perfect race weather. Sunday, not so much.

I wore mine under another shirt too so I tried to justify it that way as well. When I packed on Tuesday night (left for the airport early tues am), I swear the forecast wasn't showing it to be that cold on Saturday! I am glad that I had at least packed my coldgear running tights just in case...I was very glad to have those in the morning!

I'm so superstitious that at the expo when I tried on a shirt to make sure the size was OK, I made sure and tried on the half marathon shirt, as it was the least likely to jinx me.

Speaking of shirts, they looked a lot better in person than in the pictures. Although I wasn't real excited about the orange of the Goofy shirt. I chose to wear the marathon shirt to dinner Sunday night, as it was 'dressier'. Of course, I had a hard time not explaining to everyone that I really ran the Goofy.

Look at the 10K race video on the Run Disney YouTube channel and you'll see him explain his packing mistake.I ran Goofy but was a spectator for the 10K and I remember seeing him go up on stage with Rudy and I was asking myself is he wearing jeans?

Just back from the weekend. Congratulations to everyone who ran this weekend! Definitely the strangest weather in the 4 years my family has been attending. My random thoughts about the weekend
  • Thursday was cold, even coming from Colorado. I was ok, but our 9 and 6 years were in layers, used the mylar blankets I'd brought from previous races, and were still shivering. That wind cut right through you.
  • Saturday was great weather. Really wished it would have held over for Sunday, but Sunday was nice too. Managed to PR by 4 minutes on Sunday, which felt great as I included 2 photo stops.
  • I still like WWoS. I'll take a winding path with distractions like the soccer teams, stadium, etc. over a straight out and back. I still sing "Highway to Hell" in my mind while running Osceola and being blinded by the sunrise.
  • I don't know if runDisney expanded the size of the corrals, or reduced the number of people, but corral D felt empty this year. I stood at the back of the corral when I arrived on both Saturday and Sunday, and it was 3/4 full at most. It was nice not to be packed in like sardines, which I felt in previous years.
  • No wrist bands! Big improvement on Dopey/Goofy tracking compared the last year. I appreciated the use of technology
  • They really need to create some 5k and 10k merchandise. I know this has been discussed before, but the lack of any merchandise has the feeling of "2nd class citizen" when walking around the expo shop.
  • I still would prefer "Finisher" over "I Did It". However, I'd really prefer tech shirts and not cotton. Maybe running has ruined me, but I just don't like cotton t-shirts anymore.
  • Running the 5k, half, and full I only heard Shake It Off and Let It Go once each. I consider that a victory :)

I already have post race fever. Spent part of the flight home searching for my next race!

I know this is insane, but I tried on my shirt at the expo and I had a terrible race. I know it is just a coincidence.,,but still...never again!!!

I don't really have the post race fever but I found myself quoting out a trip to DL this morning. "Well, I don't really want to do a rD event next year soooo if I should probably try for Coast to Coast this year..." :confused3:rotfl2:

So is anybody else just in love with their race shirt? It fits so well, has such a great design, and is so incredibly soft that I just want to wear it every day! This might be my favorite shirt ever! I am just so pleased that since my last Marathon Weekend event that Disney has gone to having a women's shirt option. "Unisex" was kind of a joke, unless the "uni" sex was male.

Glad I'm not the only one..I just held a family conference to announce that we're going to Disneyland Labor Day weekend. I wan that Coast to Coast medal...LOL

Ummm......I was guilty of that thought too. Not sure if I am trying for Labor Day or Veteran's day. Figure I won't be able to do the runDisney events each year so might as well double dip.

Guilty here, too! Just plotted out either the DL Half in Sep or Star Wars Half next Jan and presented to DH who said "cool!". He's clearly an enabler... LOL!!

I completely understand. I did the Inaugural Dumbo Challenge in 2013 to get my Coast to Coast. Run a 10k and a half and walk away with 4 medals :thumbsup2 It felt too easy after completing Goofy and only getting 3 medals

Agreed! I was really hoping for a Minnie Mouse 10k tank and Sweaty Band, as she is my favorite character. I wandered up and down the aisles 3 times, cause I just couldn't believe there was no 10k merchandise!!! I'd be REALLY bummed if the 10k was the only race I ran and there was no merch!

Haha! Me too! Today I registered for a local half in March, and I may or may not have made a hotel reservation in Anaheim for Labor Day week. ;)

I booked the Shamrock half in VA beach in March yesterday and started looking at a local trail 10 miler at the end of this month. I started petitioning DW about the Disneyland half months ago... but that's still not a definite.

I find having a race to look forward to makes it much easier to get out and train.

I really like the Marathon shirt. I usually like orange and the 2013 Goofy shirts is one of my favorite so I thought I was going to love that shirt. It's okay but goofy kind of blends in with the shirt.
