Timing after new baby - am I crazy?

I just want some input from other planners regarding our timing after having a baby. I will having baby #3 around Sept. 12 via c-section. This will be my third c-section and all my recoveries have been easy and uneventful. I am usually back to my normal routine at 4-6 weeks. Both older kids made their first full day trips to DLR before they were 2 months old and I did fine. We are considering moving our February trip to December. Baby will hit 3 months while we were there, and we are planning on a laid back trip (I'm a bit of a theme park warrior, so my other kids' trips at DLR were not!). Given my history, I shouldn't be worried, right? Just trying to explore all aspects. We would really love to go at Christmas time.

I certainly don't think you're crazy...I'm planning a trip on October 6th, with my first baby due on August 2nd...so if he arrives on time he'll be around 2 months old. We just plan to take things in stride, be flexible, etc. With this being your third I'm sure you're totally prepared!

Good luck and congrats!!

I am planning a trip at the end of September and my baby (number 2) will be right around 2 months old so I don't think you're crazy! I think taking them younger is easier since they just eat and sleep:) Have a good trip:goodvibes

Personally I wouldnt suggest to a first time mom a trip of this magnitude. Having a baby was a huge deal in my life and I didnt recover as quickly or as well as some others. I would be worried about the stress that a trip like this could cause a first-time mother.

However, being that the OP is on baby #3, I would say, heck yeah: go! :thumbsup2

I will probably be fine - but, you can always go back to plan A if you end up with a fussy baby (both of my boys would not have traveled well at that age - one cried all the time, and the other had colic, and would scream between midnight and 4 am.)

Sounds like you have the mom thing down, so why not go for it! Only 2 things I could think of to consider- depending on when in Dec. you plan to go, check out Josh's suggestions on his crowd calendar (easywdw.com). And if you are at all nervous or second guessing your decision to go, you could always purchase insurance.

Have a great time & congrats in advance on #3! :cheer2:

Thanks all! Our last trip to WDW was when my oldest was 5 months, and despite being an extremely high needs baby, she did fine. I do feel like I've got the mom thing down ;) and we are DLR veterans, so I've got a good handle on babies in the park. I'm actually more concerned about me and the c-section, but I should know well enough ahead of time to adjust dates if things with delivery/recovery don't go as smoothly as they have in the past. Glad to hear I'm not crazy! Now to decide if we'll be doing WDW at Christmas without my parents or waiting until February so they can go too… :scratchin

I had C-sections with both my kids and took a WDW the last week of maternity leave before going back to work. So yes, both were 12 weeks old on their first trips. It really was some of our easiest trips. Except for the extra gear we had to bring (and we fly) other than that it was a complete breeze. We also have travelled to WDW with babies at 8 mo, 13 mo, 19 mo, 21 mo and 23 mo (and all ages up to their current ages of 23 mo and 8) and it is definitely more challenging the more mobile they get. The 12 week and 8 mo trips were by far the easiest.

I had a very easy recovery after my first c-section so I didn't have any issues. I had quite a few complications after my 2nd....I ended up having some pretty bad nerve damage from the the incision and was not able to carry the baby or walk for almost 4 weeks after having him. As the nerve healed I was able to walk farther and farther and by our trip I was basically back to normal. It was good motivation for my recovery.

Since you are a veteran Disney traveller, I think you will be fine.

Like others have said, I'd be more worried about you than the baby.

That said, I had a HORRIBLE c-section recovery, and just as I was almost recovered, ended up back in the hospital getting my gallbladder out.

That said, I was up and moving again (albeit still not super not well) by the time he was 3 months old. So I think if you have an uneventful c-section you should be fine. Though I would make sure every thing you do is changeable, just in case.

Congrats on the new little one!

As long as you are up for it, and don't have any issues in your recovery, I would say go for it.

We have a wdw trip planned for when our 2nd will be 2 months old. We figure if you just take your time and go with the flow it should be fine. Worst case we will hang out by the pool and relax. Hope you have a wonderful time!

We went when my son was 9 weeks old and everyone thought we were crazy. (Not fellow DISers, but other friends.) We had an awesome time!!! He was a great age - super easy. We had to go at a slower pace, but really loved the trip and made some great memories!

We took DD2 at 9 weeks and it was super easy. Once in a while, I'd take her to a baby care center to nurse somewhere cool and quiet but for the most part, she did great in the Ergo or being held. It was in August so we did not use the car seat/stroller because I thought it was way too hot. You can even wear them on some rides.

Bringing you oldest when she was that young, how was your trip? We are going to WDW in September for my sons first birthday and I am just now freaking out that it may not be worth it...It will just be my husband and I and my son.

You will probably be fine. But make sure everything is refundable just in case. Too many wild cards in the mix between your recovery and new baby. I say this from experience.

Not the same thing but we went to Sea World 3 months after dd2 was born, she was a c-sect baby and we did just fine. My recovery with her was much harder than it had been with my oldest but I didn't have any trouble walking around the park for the entire day we were there, and she did wonderfully. I think as long as you both have been cleared by doctors and you, of course, take it easy and listen to your body to rest or slow down when needed, you should be fine.

I'd rather take an infant over a toddler. Go for it! The baby will be contained and by your third you've got the infant thing down pat. Have fun!

She was 5 months old. It was fantastic! She didn't give us any trouble at all. I wore her in my Ergo most of the day, with occasional stints in the stroller while my mom sat with her and the rest if us went on the wilder rides. I did a mix of formula and nursing with her and that went fine too. I was a bit worried heading out because she was/is a very high needs child, but really, as long as she had mama, she was happy. These days I routinely do day trips to Disneyland on my own with both kids, and have since the middle was 18 months. I took my oldest on day trips by herself throughout her first year. Just be prepared to take it easy and stop a lot and you'll be fine. :)
