Gutted - flight price gone up again

I've watched plenty of these threads on here and on thedibb forum, and I have to say that I only ever notice a one way trend with these and thats upwards and upwards.

Back in the Virgin sale I hesitated a day and missed out on £360 fares but got our May flights at £400 each and get happier with those every day! I find it scary how much people pay (and are prepared to pay) and can't believe those that do it every year!

WEll done!!! You got yourselves a great deal!

Those of us who do it year after year have never paid prices like this - hence the uproar. This year's prices are far from typical.

The prices are really frightening me. We aren't planning on going until 2012, but I'm starting to quietly panic that we won't be in a position to afford it if the prices rise like this year on year.

We are also tied to school holidays, so no chance of off-peak prices. I feel so sorry for people who have held out for cheaper prices, only to see them keep rising.

Surely something has got to give?

I agree Jules! Lately I have had moments of feeling really selfish about previously complaining that I was "overcharged" for my flight inc. package (which in the current climate is looking like a bargain) - but what about all the families who have been SOOOO looking forward to their trip and scraping and saving for a holiday that now looks out of reach :sad2: I know most of us make plenty sacrifices to go, but I do accept that for some, the cost is more than for others.

It absolutely has to get better!

I suppose they will keep the prices high as long as they are selling though. Plus, those of us who have followed flight prices will book early next time, which will put the airlines in a strong position.

I want to go in October, so I have been checking flight prices for 2010 as a guide. I looked the other day and saw a price of £2174. I thought that this was quite reasonable for half term, flying direct for 5 people. Then I realised that I hadn't selected 'all passengers' in my dummy booking and that £2174 was the price for 1 PERSON!!! :scared1:

Are you looking at economy? Where are you looking at flying from?

I booked last May for this October. I took a package with flights through Disney UK. The flights for the 2 of us (me and DD7) came out at £1200 flying direct from Glasgow. I nearly cancelled and rebooked DIY in December when I noticed that I could shave several hundred pounds off our costs by doing that. But since I would have lost £270 deposit, I would only have been £100 ish better off and it wasn't worth the hassle.

I suppose even then it wasn't too bad considering that as a single parent DD goes as a full priced adult on a package (flights included) so effectively my price is for 2 adults and we are going from Glasgow this year so that also includes a £120 supplement per person. I am bracing myself for a frantic grab-session when flights are released next year!!!

It was the week before half-term, flying from Gatwick with Virgin. Some of the prices are crazy on there. Flights on 18th Oct-1st Nov are currently £2169 each, unless I am looking at something completely wrongly.:confused3

I think you are right - there will be a frenzy when flights are released next year, and people will pay a lot, for fear that they will rise even more. You got bargain flights - I thought flight inclusive packages with Disney were pricey!

No, you're right...they are wanting over £2,000 for an economy seat on some days that week :scared1:

That's the week we are going (19th Oct-3rd Nov) so I went and had a look. We paid £480 for each adult seat (total of £1,773 for 2A, 2C). Now for the exact same flights they are wanting £764 each (£2,779 total)!

The highest price I can see is £2,529 for an ecomony seat. However, I think the problem is that the Gatwick return flights are full in economy on Mon 1st Nov which means the return flight is via Manchester and then to Heathrow. So now you are paying over £2,000 for an indirect flight :scared1: It's actually cheaper to fly PE if you want to return on Nov 1st! :lmao:

Just having another little check on our flight prices, and the flights for Wednesday the 4th August are now showing as 'no flights'!!!

Last time I checked they were still on sale, anyone know what may have happened! Scary for anyone who was booked on those flights!!

:goodvibes

Nope, unfortunately you saw correctly. I am going a week before the Scottish mid term: 2nd October so not exactly holiday season anywhere in the UK and checked again today: no flights on the Saturday. No PE left. A handful of UC seats. But looked at Friday the 1st which consistently had much cheaper seats but I didn't want to take DD out of an extra day of school. Well the cheapest seats for 1 adult and 1 child were £3.598!!!!Economy. :scared1: :faint: That's more than I paid for my package including tickets, dining, flights and a moderate resort with DD as an adult!

Yes, Flight Inc have often (not always, but usually) been more costly. Suddenly they look great though.

I can't bear all this gloom. I have to bring a happy thought to the party. With these prices, people are going to hesitate before booking for next year, or at least to a much greater degree than this year. Disney will have to encourage its UK guests by enticing them with great deals ;) so we should have some good deals to look forward to to offset the nightmare flight story. WEll, nothing wrong with hoping!

ETA: Luke, I think those flights are sold out in whatever class you were looking at. I know that mine are fully booked and have been for some time now aside from a handful of UC seats. Have the airlines cut flight schedules? Surely there aren't more people flying now than before - especially at these prices!!!

It's probably because Virgin have cancelled one flight out on each of thse dates (1st and 2nd Oct) from both Gatwick and Manchester. So now instead of Vigin flying 4 planes each day from the UK they will be flying 2..less seats available, therefore they can charge more money for them :rolleyes1

You had [/ missing in your reply, corrected it.

Hmmm..... I just used the Quote button on the message I wanted to quote. I guess I must have edited it a bit much without noticing :guilty: Oops! Thanks for letting me know what I'd done wrong...I can make sure I don't do it again now I know what to look out for :thanks:

Ours are now £1,592.80 (£4,778.40 total)
I paid £1,170 (£3,510)
Up £1,268:scared1:

Just looked again at ours, this is a crazy year for flight prices in August.

Now Roundtrip: £2,305.80 avg/person (£6,917.40 total)
If I had not booked when we did we woul dnot be going this year at these prices.
Cheapest economy with 1 stop I see is £795, don't think I could pay it.

Absolutely shocking. Are they crazy? Who in their right mind would pay those prices?!

People who want a holiday over there who may have already got work leave and accommodation arranged..... or weddings..... or meeting up with family over there .... or first timers who don't know any better... Quite a few who will go no matter what the cost, so they can charge what they like at the minute,:sad2: flights are still going full.. Especially with BA strike threats....

Luckily we booked a package a year ago for this October. Our flights home are now showing as full. VA 29th Oct... (also showing full 28th and 30th... and around $2000 each round trip returning on days each side...).

I suspect a lot of these people will be cancelling. Unfortunately, not everyone can cobble together thousands of pounds at the last minute.

ETA: just checked my dates and the price has gone up approximately £250 per person :scared1:

There is no way I would pay the prices they are now, I was lucky and managed to get KLM fights from Humberside via Amsterdam to Atlanta using my miles for 3 return flights, just the airport taxes to pay, still £800 though :scared1:

Pete.

I think there are even more who just can't cobble together thousands - full stop! :sad2:

Mine have more than doubled - significantly more ...
