DDA Chapter 7

Even back when DS was born they wanted the babies in the rooms, not in the nursery. But they didn't want the mom to SLEEP if the baby was in the room! So I would call for somebody to come get him, they would take FOREVER, and by the time they came to get him it would be time for him to eat or time for me to see the Dr. or a visitor would show up so I got NO sleep from the time I checked in for induction at 5 AM on a Tuesday until they discharged me at 1 PM on Thursday! :headache:

I know that they think rooming in is important, but it's also important for a new mom to get sleep. A tired, exhausted, cranky mom is much more susceptible to post partum depression. I had to get really stern with some of the staff when Jacob was born, as they wanted me to have him constantly. It helps that Alan is a giant, with a really fierce look when he wants. It actually came down to Alan taking Jacob to the nursery and insisting that they take him in so I could nap for a couple of hours.

With the twins, it wasn't so bad. They needed more monitoring in the nursery. Leslie had a really hard time waking up, and when she would eat, she would take one suck, and then fall asleep. Also, they both had jaundice, so were under the bili lights quite a bit. I got some sleep, but not as much as I wanted since everyone and their dog that we knew wanted to come see the babies!

I had all 3 kids in the same hospital. The boys never left our side, either Chris or I had them. Fortunately Chris was at the hospital most of the time with me. With Nick I was only in the hospital for 20 hrs after delivery then we were home. I was in a bit longer with Hunter, but Chris was there and we were all in the same room. Colby was a little trickier as older boys had school. Chris went home and put them to bed and stayed with them overnight. He got them off to school then came to the hospital. Colby was a little booger at night and didn't stop crying. Of course there was nursing issues and the nurse I had stunk, but it really wasn't that bad. We were adamant that they never leave our sight. Chris even went to the circumsision with Nick and Hunter. He was not allowed with Colby as the doctor that did it did not allow parents. He was devistated that Colby had to go through it alone. Chris may have actually cried more than Colby. Even when the boys were readmitted for jaundice we were able to stay in the room with them. We even held them and the lights were on us too.

We did it our way and wouldn't change a thing other than Colby's circumsision. I guess to each his own.:confused3

Hi, everyone. Tomorrow is the last day of school for the kids and me! Can't believe I'll have 2nd graders. I start my new job on August 4th, but we have a packed summer. I did try to scan briefly. If I've missed anything big, please PM me.

Jen, glad you got to come home and that the girls are doing ok. Hang in there. You are so close now!

Glynis, hope Alan's ankle is feeling better.

Elin, how is your dog that was having surgery?

Deb, yea for Colby and the ST! My kids love ST, and they have made great improvement.

Jen, have fun on your cruise, and your HC looks very cute.

Debbie, my kids used the Malem Ultimate Bedwetting Alarm. Within 2 weeks BK and Rees were dry. We've had no accidents since then, and it has been 11 months.

Seems like lots of y'all have trips coming up. FUN!!! Hi to everyone and sending you PD and hugs!

It would have been disloyal of us to cheer for someone other than David A., since he's from our area (and I taught some of his cousins in high school), but I'm really happy with the outcome. I think both those young men will have stellar careers!

I think they will too...if David A. can keep his eyes open for an entire song. The poor boy looks like he's falling asleep while singing.

I also hope that they've got proper voice teachers, finally, as we've noticed that with the Idols who have gone on to have good careers (other than Daughtry) have all had problems with over use/improper use of their vocal chords.

That's the thing I'm really trying to figure out how to get around! :sad2:

That's what I keep hearing...

It's good to see you!

Take it a day at a time and shoot for 36 weeks. You know why. But at 32, they'll do great. One of my best friends (was on hospital bedrest with me) ID twin girls were Monoamniotic Monochorionic. They delivered them at 32 weeks because of the cord tangled risk. They each weighed over 4 pounds, stayed in the NICU for around 4 weeks, and are perfectly healthy beautiful girls today. They were born 9 days before us.

I read through earlier, but now I have forgotten what I was going to comment on!

My mom had a biopsy today on one of the uterine "fibroids". Results in 5-7 days. They told her if it is cancerous she needs a hysterectomy (Duh!) and if not then she may still need a hysterectomy if that's what the oncologist feels is the best course of action. I kind of think that if her uterus is prone to growths that it needs to come out, even if nothing has been cancerous so far.

She goes Tuesday for the ultrasound to look at the breast tumor, so at least by the time she goes for her surgical consult all the test results should be back and they can make an informed decision about what needs to be done.

Continued good thoughts for your mom....:wizard: :wizard:

Well I got some unexpected "me" time!

Daniel & Katie were asked over their friends houses & I only have Sophie here with her friend. They are dressing up & playing Wii & are totally occupied having fun...no one needs mommy right now!!!
:woohoo:

Oh I forgot to say that Bernadette called & got us the Wishes Cruise for August !!!! We have never done this before so it will be nice to do with friends!:thumbsup2

Elizabeth I always fly Air Tran & the most my schedule has been changed is by a 1/2 hour. I was delayed last year in Atlanta with Chanon, but this was due to weather. Nothing you can do about that & they were great about getting us booked on the next flight. I now only fly non-stop unless I have no other option.

My sister is booked out on Airtran. They changed her non-stop flight from arriving at 11:30 to arriving at 3:55. She has the choice of leaving 2-1/2 hours earlier and arriving at 11:30 (with a layover in Atlanta) or leaving later and arriving at 3:55 on a non-stop.

I don't watch idol, but I do live in the US. :teeth: From everything I've heard for weeks, I thought the person that won was going to win, hands down! :confused3 When I read all the talk last night, i was sure the other David won, which would have surprised me.

Ok, now I get it. Both the top candidates were David? I wondered how Elizabeth was being non-specific when she gave the name. If this is the case, it all makes sense now.

Found this under Disney news here on the DIS.

Two Disney Store products recalled
May 22, 2008

Two items sold at the Disney Store have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Both the Pirates of the Caribbean sleeping bag and Tinker Bell's Wand have been found to be in violation of the lead paint standards set by the CPSC. Both items were sold at the Disney Store from April through October of 2007.

While no injuries have occurred, it is advised that the items be returned for a refund.

Why would there be lead paint in a sleeping bag? :confused3

Jennifer-glad you're home again. :wizard: Good luck reaching your next goal.

Robyn-LOVE your photos!!! Sorry about the insane sport issues you're dealing with.

Elizabeth-Congrats to DS on great standardized test grades.:woohoo: I have a solution to your luggage problem-have more kids. You are the age I was when I had Lizzy so you could have 3 more kids and be allowed 6 bags.:rotfl:

That is really cute!

I am fine....near Denver to the national news is quite a funny distance...let me see if I can find the information. We are expecting nasty weather all night though.

ETA: found the information... Windsor is about an hour on the other side of Denver from us...so just under an hour and a half away. The pictures of the town are amazing in the destruction
